After all the smoke screens and smoke signals of last year with Love I would just say - Colts doing their due diligence.

Also - this was the only game Trey Lance would play this season so I would be surprised if most QB-needy teams didn't go to see him in that game.

After speculation about Jordan Love last year I'm not buying it. Most likely, Dodds was there to scout North Dakota State's Left Tackle Dillon Radunz. Many scouts say he will go in the 1st round. Gotta be looking at AC's replacement.

That makes more sense, than Trey. Although we will be heavily involved in any QB rumors.

So............

Trey Lance is playng one game this season,  ONE.      And people here are thinking we are only looking at the OT.

Do people here know all 32 teams scout every possible player whether we need the position or not?    Do we know this?

So, even if the team is happy with our QB position and has no plans to draft a QB,  we scout the position anyway.   Because that's what is done.    This is not my opinion.    It is fact.   Period.

Were we there to scout the big OT?    I'm sure we were.    Were we there to also scout Lance?    I'm sure we were.

In my opinion, I believe that we are not looking at him.  We are doing due deligence.

think about it last year.  Everyone linked us to Jordan Love.  They talked about how Ballard went in person and that we had several meetings.  Then cam the rumor on draft night that we were looking at trading up.  Ballard denied all of this.

Then on the flip side, no one talked about us scouting Eason.  But it comes out the Dodds and Decker both not only talked with him but flee out and meet with him.  None of this was reported.

What i'm saying is that the Colts play everything close to the vest.  I view this as smokescreens.  Also, everything coming out of the Colts is how much they love Eason and how impressive he has been.  I view Eason as the next QB.

I would love to have QB Trey Lance on this loaded roster. With his talent, he could take this team to new heights, unless the front office and coaching staff see Eason as their future franchise QB.

Maybe Dodds was looking into all players that he see's fit for our team. Looking at both Lance and Radunz. Trey Lance reminds me of Russell Wilson/ Lamar Jackson. Definitely Duel threat QB.

Idk about Lance, just not enough tape or info out on him. He is someone who needs the combine and East-West Shrine game so you can see him practice/play against some talent

Regardless of who Lance compares to, he is undoubtedly a very exciting QB that will make this team instantly prime time worthy in my opinion. I would LOVE having him on the Colts.

Don’t count on it. He’ll go higher than the Colts’ pick. Keep your focus on Eason. He’s the future.

Remember that both Deshaun Watson and Patrick Mahomes were drafted outside the top 10 picks.

There could certainly be a chance Lance could be available after the top 10 picks. Would Ballard still have to trade up a bit to get him? Most likely. But the move up wouldn't kill them draft capital wise.

Moving up in the first round is almost ALWAYS expensive.  Very, very expensive.   You have to entice the other team to move down.   You may also have to outbid another team who might also want to trade up, maybe even for the same player.

The idea that you’re talking about trading up high in the first round and you don’t think it will be expensive is pretty shocking,    Sorry.

Maybe this subject should be brought up around weeks 12 to16?

We haven't even seen exactly who is picking where at this point.

A lot can happen between now and week 16.

Plus we need to see the combine and the bowl games.

There is always players who drop in value just like some will rise.

Maybe Darnold could be got for a 2nd or 3rd rd pick?

Trey Lance is this year's Jordan Love.  A small school QB that's flashed enough NFL potential that teams are taking notice.

What's the even money on Trey Lance being talked about every day from now until draft day, when we wind up not picking him?

I kind of feel like Lance will go pretty high which will probably mean we won't have the chance to draft him. IMO the guy who's going to be this year's Jordan Love is Zach Wilson. Well at least he is for me. He's the one that has caught my eye and it feels like we have realistic chance at getting him if we want him. Lance, Fields and Lawrence are all probably going around top 5.

we need a QB so i think trading up is something they have to at least consider.  im not saying we are all in on lance but he is an option.  i do not think its going to be eason

Agree with the first part here. I can't agree with the last sentence because I haven't seen anything from Eason so it's hard for me to go one way or the other with him. The buzz from the Colts seem to be that they love what they are seeing from him so far. Now that doesn't say much, so ... yeah... we definitely have to consider trading up for a QB we love... whoever that might be...

The only comparison you got right there is the small school aspect. Totally different players. Love showed the touch and mechanics you drool over for a QB and lacked pretty much the rest, and i was a huge love advocate and that was because he was a moldable qb for the future. Lance on the other hand pretty well has it all, hes not just flashy the kid in 2019 threw for nearly 2800 yards, 28 TD's and ZERO interceptions, 67% completion rate rushed for 1100 yards and 14 touchdowns..... If he wasnt coming out in a absolutely loaded draft class i think we are looking at a #1 over all pick. I wouldnt be surprised to see him go ahead of Fields at this point. The guy is special.

He looks great but I have reservations about competition level and playing style. If he tries to run that often in the NFL he will have a shortened career most likely. Yes in today's game more QBs are duel threats than before but it remains to be seen how long of a career these new guys will have. Taking on punishment only advances the likelihood of retirement. See Andrew Luck...

    • Which if he’d had any balls, he’d refused.
    • By now most should realize the Colts prefer to retain their own as much as possible.  The defense is much improved with the signing in place but always room for improvement at key positions.  Below is my FA/resign list have already put together mid-season.   Colts FA ~58m: QB Jacoby Brissett 21.3 WR T.Y. Hilton 14.5 TE Jack Doyle 8.5 RDE Denico Autry 5.7 ILB Anthony Walker 2.2 S Tavon Wilson 750k DB Tremon Smith 750k (keeper?) WR Marcus Johnson 582k (practice squad) S Malik Hooker 4m WR Ashton Dulin 542k   Resign ~ 90m QB Philip Rivers 26.3m (probably will drop) DE Justin Houston 11m (3-4 good years left like Mathis and Freeny) DB Xavier Rhodes 8m RG Mark Glowinski 6.9 (improved game this year) RDT Grover Stewart 7.5m (most improved player on defense) DE Al-Quadin Muhammad 3m OL Le’Raven Clark 1.2m DB T.J. Carrie 1.2m (special teamer) TE Trey Burton 4.5m S George Odum 1.25 TE Mo Alie-Cox (RFA) – 6.25m DT Taylor Stallworth 1m (otc hit 4.8m in 1 game) LT Chaz Green 850k (special teams) WR Zach Pascal 7m RB Marlon Mack 4m (when healthy proved to be lead back) C Joey Hunt 300k RG Jake Eldrenkamp 200k (special teamer) Edge Cassius Marsh 250k (special teamer) TE Farrod Green 200k (practice squad) S Ibraheim Campbell 200k (special teamer)
    • Originally was thinking we would be closer to 100 mil in cap space but sounds more like 75 mil.  Kind of why for this example only budgeted ~40 mil for FAs after calculating ~95 mil to resign players while leaving a minimum of 20 mil to sign draftees.  This should still allow discretionary cap space for the Club to do as needed short-term.
    • I still have Patrick Jones II at the top of my early 2021 NFL Draft Board.  Would be happy to acquire either Weaver or Jones.  Other top names have seen but truthfully haven't been impressed with them as have been with these two players at RDE.
    • No one gets stoned anymore in civilized societies!   Wait, that didn't sound right...
