All time colts team compared to nfl?

 This is just for fun. I was bored and thinking about our historic franchise and I was amazed at the talent we have assembled on this team in just the time I’ve been a colts fan 1996 to present.  So it got me thinking. What would be your all time colts team?  I’m talking about any players that have played for the colts even if it was for one game. 
 

  I will be the first to admit my football knowledge, especially football before 1995  I’m not too keen on, so you guys could help me with that.  How many teams would you rank ahead of the colts as far as their all time teams are concerned?   Just with the colts I will name my fav all time players 

offense 
1. qb Peyton Manning Or Johnny u 

2 RB Faulk or edge 
3. Wr ...Marvin , Reggie , Hilton 

O line- Glenn, Saturday , big Q 

 

then look at some of these defensive names lol. 

1. Mathis

2. freeney

3.leonard

4.bob sanders

5. Buckner 

6.houston. 
 
Those are just off the top of my head and most are from the pretty recent past. Could you imagine a defense with all these guys on the field together and in their primes!  
 

It blows my mind how much talent we have had on this historic franchise. I didn’t even name Johnny u or the other greats. These would just be my starters.  What other teams do you think  could beat an all colts team if any?  Maybe a pre salary cap juggernaut like the cowboys or niners?

Dallas Clark, Ken Dilger, Eric Dickerson, Chris Hinton, Ray Donaldson, Tarik Glenn, Billy Brooks. Adam Vinatieri, Jeff Herrod, Pat McAffe and Dominic Rhodes all deserve a mention. 

I could dig into the Baltimore days but that deserves it's own thread. Quite a few hall of famers there.

The best Colts team I have ever seen play was the 2005 Colts where our defense was mauling QBs and our offense was firing. Best team ever. 

 

Got beat by Pitt in the first round of the playoffs.

So where do you guys think our franchise ranks among other historic franchises if we competed our best players making up a team vs their best all time players?  Now that I think about it the Steelers would def be a formidable opponent with all the talent they have had over the decades.  Btw I’m not talking about a particular colts team like the 2003 colts etc....im talking our best players from any colts team making up a single colts dream team. How would they stack up?

I think we would have a very very good offense with 2 of the top 5 QBs of all time. Our RB would be EDGE cause both Faulk and Dickerson were much better on other teams. We'd have two top 15 WRs in Marvin Harrison and Raymond Barry with Reggie Wayne being a top 30. A top 5 TE with John Mackey(I think #2) and Dallas Clark at like 25. The o line would be very good as well with guys like Glenn, Vogel, Staurday, and  Nelson already. Definitely a top 5 offense.

I think one issue is too many people on here act as if the Colts began when Manning was drafted.  Baltimore Colt history had very, very good players.

Interesting.  Then you would have to assemble the best of all time for teams like The Cowboys, the Packers, the Steelers, the Rams, the 49'ers, etc...   (maybe even consider the Raiders, Washington team, Patriots and Dolphins) and then compare.

Yeah I understand that but I think the OP was talking about players who made this team better when playing for our team.

That's like saying what Kerry Collins did for the Panthers relates to what he did for the Colts.

You may be right but when he mentioned even 1 game I assumed best players to put on the Horseshoe not what they did here only in Indy, I could be wrong though. If only here Andre certainly doesnt make list but if not he def should

i think you would have to go with where they played the longest to have this discussion, or at least where they won the most

 

i dont think we could have peyton in denver or brady on the bucs.  deion sanders would be a though one, he played for 5 different teams, and three of them 4 years a piece

My criteria would be different, IMO to make an all-time Colts team you have to have at least 2 full seasons played or a minimum of 32 games played. 1 game or 1 full season is too low of a sample size: Here would be my all-time Colts team:

Yeah listing the defense is a little tougher. I have to think about it. Offense was pretty easy. Leaving Edge off bothers me but Dickerson was better IMO and played here long enough to make this team. Dickerson was better than Faulk as well at least IMO.

There's room for debate over Vogel vs. Glenn.  Folks that remember Rohn Stark might also vote him in over Pat McAfee... just throwing it out there.

I think Ted Hendricks likely gets a LB slot over Gary Brackett. Also Rick Volk gets a S spot over Antoine Bethea. IMHO.

Just to mention the criteria I meant was even if they played one game with us so yes Andre Johnson would snd should of been on my list had I not forgotten about him lol. I’m not really educated on colts teams from the past (right before Peyton got here). It’s cool to see some of the Pre manning colts fans opinions and on who our best were and how they would match up to other teams best.  
btw I prob should of changed the criteria to maybe a full season or two or what they did for the colts, I was just thinking about the names and talent that we have assembled and what could of been if they all played together during their primes against other teams assembled the same way.

Lenny Moore is always overlooked. He was on the All NFL First 50 Years Team, and ended in the NFL’s top seasons’ productions.

Yeah he was great no doubt. We have had so many great RB's that you can't really go wrong with who you choose. I have had people even tell me that Marshall Faulk was by far and away the best RB we have ever had. I don't agree with that but Faulk was awesome.

I was born in 1954, just down the street from Baltimore’s Memorial Stadium. Watched the 58 Championship on a 9” black and white tv in a 4’ Console, but had no idea what football really was. Moved to Indy in 1980, and the Colts eventually followed me. Between 80-84, my Mom mailed me the Sports Pages from  Baltimore Sun , the Baltimore News American, the York Dispatch, and the York Daily Reporter. My wife wanted the money my Mom spent in postage...

I would rather do it for Indianapolis Colts.   While I enjoy the history of the Colts including in Baltimore, I prefer to separate the franchise.

I think a slight majority here are Colts fans from their Baltimore days, Ive been on a few other sites were overwhelming number were from Indy days.

I am the same way, Johnny U wanted that way as well. He was about Baltimore. I would be ok if our history only consisted of everything since we moved to Indy (1984). Still a hell of a history with:

 

SB win = 2006 (1)

 

SB appearances = 2006, 2009 (2)

 

AFC Title Game appearances = 1995, 2003, 2006, 2009, 2014 (5)

Just in the Indianapolis era alone (1984-2020) we have had QB's - Jim Harbaugh, Peyton Manning, Andrew Luck, and now Philip Rivers. RB's - Eric Dickerson, Marshall Faulk, Edge James. WR's - Bill Brooks, Marvin Harrison, Reggie Wayne, TY Hilton. Pretty great stuff!

 

I know we have several people in here that were fans when we were in Baltimore so not sure how they feel but I am guessing most of them had ties to Baltimore.
