I like both of those moves! I has Charlie on the Colt's radar during the draft and he is a FB now converted into an H-Back/TE and the kid from TCU can run the ball pretty good, solid career and then had a productive Senior Bowl as well!

Honestly, not sure we really need a S. We're carrying 5 on the 53 already. We use a lot more CBs than Ss, so not surprised to be honest. I think they might also think a few of the CBs could flex to S if needed.

Still have one slot left for a defensive back PLUS Ballard is known to churn through practice squad players every couple weeks. Only the strong survive! Ha!

I'm more than fine with a S, just not sure it's a need.  A lot of rosters only carry 4 on the 53. I think we're carrying 5 only because Blackmon is coming off injury. Since we have 16 instead of 10, more than happy to add a S though.

No need for a safety on Practice Squad.

5 of top 9 available FAs are Safeties.

7 of top 15

Plenty of Safety talent to be had if we need it

If Tell was on roster yes he can play both Corner and Safety, dont see Rhodes,Carrie,Moore or Rodgers being able effectively as non has any experience. IF Blackmon is indeed ready I can understand it more, if not we are carrying 4 with zero room for injury or illness which in this season seems a bit risky. There are some unsigned vets out there we could rush to sign and fill in would be nice to have a person in shape who has been through camp with the team and we have the spot open so....

And just like that Ballard signs a safety. One without much name recognition but with his measurables in Anthony Walkers old Northwestern teammate Ibraheim Campbell.

Ironically, Campbell's tackling numbers went down his junior and senior season as Walkers increased......

Yup, lol. The guys has made his rounds to like 7 teams in 5ish years.

I think I'd rather have just signed Geathers to the PS. He's still looking for a job, already knows the system, would be cheap, and is better than IC IMO.

I don't disagree, however, ego plays a part and I doubt a past starter would come back on that same teams PS???

I've seen people let their ego get in the way for much less.....but I agree with you!

I got a lot of sheet last year when I was mildly critical of our C selection process, and a few of those selected. Fast forward a year, and 2 of 4 Cs have lost their starting gigs. I'm all for players having a voice, but I also think it's important the coaches have input as well. This year, I like all the selections though.

Yes, even Franklin is a good choice as he's been the leader of that special teams group the past 2 years!

I called the Franklin pick. The kid is just willing to do anything to make the team better. I know he'll never be more than a backup LB, but you have to love guys like him that just flat out work hard and are willing to do the dirty work. Odom and Adams are similar in that respect too. Odom IMO is very underrated as both S depth and STs.

Funny that Ballard got both Franklin and Adams as 7th rounders and Odum as a UDFA that year - they have earned their horseshoes thats for damn sure.

Odum has played more base defense every year too, he could be a starter in this league for us or if he left - IMO!

Yup, Ballard has done well addressing the STs late in the draft. I think the Glasgow pick was unneeded with Franklin and Adams on the roster, but not going to complain too much.

Not sure Odum will ever be a legit starter, but he's quality depth. We need those kinds of guys to balance out the roster. My guess is that Hooker does well this year, re-signs, and we keep Odum as his backup. At FS, I'm going to be Blackmon ends up starting there, with Willis as backup and box/dime specialist. I think that would be a very nice safety foursome.

Yeah, you can't have superstars at every position. Wouldn't be able to afford them all even if you had them. Probably the most any team has is 3-5, and we have our 3 in Nelson, Leonard, and Buckner. The depth guys on day 3 of the draft make teams so much better in case of injury or early round busts, and Ballard has done a fantastic job of hitting on them. I love our safeties right now, and if we can keep Hooker and use Blackmon effectively in the future, we'll finally have a pretty solid secondary. Of course, we'll probably need another CB with Rhodes and Carrie on 1 year contracts, but that's how the NFL works. At least Tell will return next year.

I think Blackmon's best position would be either SS or NB. He's a beast tackling. If you get a chance, check out the Utah/Oregon game from last year. 1st drive he just levels a guy in the box. Monster hit.

I could see Carry and/or Rhodes sticking around longer than a year. And Rodgers is an interesting prospect. Still a little surprised to see him listed as NB. He's too tiny to play around the box vs the bigs. I'm sure Carrie would actually be the guy to fill in for Moore if needed, but just strange to see Rodgers listed there.
