I agree with that. Also somehow I thought Glasgow was a safety when I posted on Rutledge. I guess this "lockdown" is turning my mind to mush.

For what it's worth , I think Glasgow is a big favorite over Franklin.

Both Franklin and Adams played a bunch of STs, which is what most see Glasgow as being limited to. I think what Glasgow has over Franklin, is that he could possibly slot as Mike, where Adams and Franklin don't. Assuming their happy with the Walker and Oke (passing downs) rotation at Mike, with Oke starting at SAM, it might come down to the fact we don't need 2 Sams behind Oke. Ideally though, we never want to really see Adams, Franklin, or Glasgow starting at any of the LB spots. I'm actually hoping Speed emerges this year as a quality backup. He certainly has the measurables.

I assume Skai Moore is on the chopping block.   He hasn't had much opportunity in games, but he didn't show much in the games he played in.

I was pulling for him because in college he had "a nose for the ball".  Often that is hard to teach.

  • 2 weeks later...

This came out this afternoon from PFT.

"NFL teams might still be able to take 90 players to training camp.

But they may not put them all into pads.

According to Chris Mortensen of ESPN, teams could be allowed to carry the current 90-player roster for the first few weeks of camp if they use a split-squad set up for practices.

A proposed deadline for getting to an 80-man roster is Aug. 16, which would be before teams go into fully padded practices after a period of conditioning and work in shells, in hopes of limiting the amount of injuries upon start-up."

I haven’t read that officially yet.  They did say the PS will be 16 players.

According to a memo distributed on Friday to all teams (the memo, as best we can tell, was first reported by Brandon Krisztal of KOA in Denver), teams can either cut to 80 before July 28, or they can wait until August 16.

Teams that wait to reduce to 80 must utilize split-squad procedures, with one group mainly consisting of rookies, first-year players, and any quarterbacks or injured players assigned to that group. (Designations, once made, can’t be changed.) The second group will consist of all veteran players who report on July 28.

A team that chooses the split-squad approach can reduce to 80 at any time before August 16, and then merge into one unit.

Thanks.  So if a team goes to 80 before 7/28 they don’t have to do the split squads, right?

This doesn’t make a ton of sense, 10 extra players isn’t going to make a difference if they’re testing every day anyway.  Plus, the PS will be 16 so you’d like to see as many players as possible.

This is going to be one crazy season.

I agree, doesn't seem to be a big difference.

Guess we will see, I'm just anxious to see who we drop and if there are any players released that we bring in, at the 80 player deadline that is.

I'm sure there will be a few players swapped out at final cuts.

Definitely going to be a crazy season. Hopefully we get through it.

    • https://www.nfl.com/news/bill-tobin-longtime-nfl-executive-dies-at-age-83   He drafted some all time great players like Harrison, and of course is famous for his verbal match with Mel Kiper. RIP!
    • Then begs the question. Do u want to say draft a MJH at 4 and turn around in 4 years or would u say draft Turner and pay him 30mill in 4 years? All day every day for the franchise rush end. I am not a big believer in 30 mill for a wr. Reid is a fantastic coach and look what he did with Hill.
    • I literally just posted that clip, it's where the conversation about QBs started.
    • Funny you brought this up.  I just listened to an interview Ballard did today with Rich Eisen.  He asked him if he has given any thought on how many quarterbacks will be taken before our pick and how many does he think.  He said sure we go through those evaluations.  It helps us with for planning purposes.  He asked him how many.  4 or 5 or 6?   He laughed out loud at 6.  He said Rich if it’s 6 we will be so excited.  Let’s hope so.  He also said the draft board is not yet set.  Won’t be until the night before the draft.  He also said he has had multiple conversations with other GM’s concerning the draft.  Preparing themselves for opportunities that could take place.  And they will continue up until the draft starts.  He said trade conversations won’t really materialize until you are within three picks of any trade.  Giving you time to finalize it.  Interesting interview.  Oh he pretty much ruled out moving up for Harrison.   Going up into the top of the draft would be very costly for him he said.  Thinks he’s a great talent but he thinks he’s pretty much out of our reach.
    • I personally wouldn’t touch Williams with a 10 foot pole. He seems like a distraction and cancerous. He may be Uber talented but I don’t feel like he is a winner, and don’t feel like his heart is in it. I think he gets the bag and just sets it on cruise control. There is absolutely nothing to base this off of aside from my gut feeling.  Maye Daniels  Penix Nix McCarthy   Maye is your prototype passer and I think his deficiencies are easily fixed with good coaching.   Daniels seems the most limited to me, proficient and will be very dependent on where he goes.    Will always have a soft spot for Penix, he throws such a pretty deep ball. His 40 time should have opened some eyes.   Nix is probably the safest pick IMO. I think he’s got the tools to fit nearly any offense. Has the athleticism, arm talent and I think he’s got the between the ears to excel in most offenses.   I see the appeal with McCarthy, he was as unselfish as they come allowing the run game to shine instead of checking to pass plays. I think his ceiling is a solid game manager.
