Darkhorse

Who is your darkhorse player to have a bigger impact then expected? I'm gonna go with Zach Pascal. I feel like he's the last WR being mentioned after Hilton Pittman and Campbell and I'm not sure why when he was basically our passing game for most of the season.

Hines, everyone is talking about Mack and Taylor, but Rivers loves the scat back out of the backfield.

I think Hines is expected to have a big year. Not really a dark horse, imo.

I'll go with Tyquan Lewis

Just don't think there will be enough balls to go around for Pascal to put up big numbers.

#4 on wr depth chart

(3) rbs getting big touches

Doyle, Burton, MAC

Will take a big injury for him to get enough run, imo.

I do really like Pascal though, his run blocking will probably get him more time than anything.

I'll go true darkhorse....

On O - Dulin - could get into the WR rotation, and also make an impact on STs. An injury to TY or Campbell could push him into a lot of action if he can hold off Fountain. He was excellent as a returner when he got a chance late in the season. IIRC, 30 yard average.

On D - Autry - If they use him right (run down DE, pass down DT), could get close to double digits sacks like 2018. IMO he's our 3rd best DL, 4th at worst, and I don't see him riding the pines just because Buckner is coming in for 3T. He played DE for LVR, and had his best year (9 sacks) in 2018 when used both as DE and DT.

I thought about Autry as well.

I think Dulin is a dark horse to make the team at this point.

I think Dulin might end up having a good chance. He's a 4.4ish tweener that could play any WR position. They had him playing X last year due to injury, but his best position is likely slot or Z.

In terms of where guys COULD fit, I see:

Big X (possession) - Pittman, Patmon

Medium X - Pascal, Dulin, Fountain

Speed/Deep X - Dulin, Fountain

Big/Bully slot - Pittman, Pascal, Dulin, Patmon

Traditional Slot - Campbell, Dulin, TY

Z - TY, Campbell, Fountain, Dulin

Returner (legit) - Hines, Dulin (Campbell fits here too, but you don't want a starter returning)

In short, Dulin checks a lot of boxes

Personally, I'd like these 6

X - Pittman, Pascal

Slot - Campbell, Dulin

Z - TY, Fountain

PS - Patmon

KR - Dulin

PR - Hines

His SPT skills definitely gives him an extra advantage.

No doubt in my mind...Chad Kelly

The FO has been highly complimentary of his special teams work last year. Not just at KR either... He made some nice plays as gunner when given a chance.

Depth WR with 4.4 speed + KR + Gunner.....

That's great bang for the buck.

Yeah, I was impressed by his gunner skills as well.

I can see it now. Kelly is pushed down to the PS squad, and is limited to scout team QB duties..... Then Rivers, Brissett, and Eason all contract Covid19 from playing with Rivers' kids (who are not allowed to play with Chad)... Then boom, Kelly is starting and becomes MahomesII leading us to a SB win over Tompa Bay

Depth chart doesn't really matter. We routine a lot.

Dublin has some great coaches in his formative years because he is good at everything

I agree

Which is why, I think Pascal's biggest contribution this year will be run blocking. Outside of injury that propels him in starting lineup.

I'm sure he'll be in to show the run and catch a fair share of PA passes though.

I think it was more of a case of him simply standing out (measurables and talent) at a small school like Malone. He's got a great size and speed combo, it's just a question of can he adjust to the huge step up in talent. He was a track guy too. Dulin also led the FBS, FCS, DII and DIII with 194.7 all-purpose yards per game

I did see an article talking about, should NFL teams hold a QB away from team just in case covid pops up.

Would at least give teams a chance to have a qb, if qb room gets hit with virus.

Would be nice to keep Kelly back for that purpose, if there was a dedicated spot for it? Would rather it be JB, but doubt it.

Nah, I want it to be Kelly lol... I'd love to see him get a shot, good or bad, so that everyone can finally stop debating.... I also want to hear unlock the swag bumping out of LOS speakers.

Going to a small school has nothing to do with what I said

Somewhere in his formative years a mentor or coach taught him to do multiple jobs

It was somewhat mandatory in my formative years

Every position group could play anywhere in that group

The only guys who didn’t were the QBs and if we had a Kicking Specialist
I knew every spot on the OL, the duties of every position on the Front 8 and could Long Snap

Going to a small school can have a lot to do with it. When you go to a small school (GS or HS or College), you have to learn more and do more. And if you're physically gifted, and you go to a small college, that's a bigger double dip and they're going to use you all over the place....... Especially when your a 4.4 guy... And when you're 4.4 and decent height, of course you're going to play WR and likely return.... It's not like he had to learn a bunch of positions. It's pretty darn common for WRs to return, no??

Didn't you go to small school 500ish? You should know...

BTW, I played 7 different positions on O and D in GS, returned, punted, and kicked...... It was because I went to a small school, and learning all that was a necessity. That changed in HS (similar size to PCHS)

Still not getting the point
Either because of his coaches/mentors and/ or his mentality AD can do anything asked

Fans see Pascal for what he is...   a high floor, low ceiling type of player.   I’m not trying to insult him, there’s nothing wrong with that.   Every team needs players like that.  Players that can do their job and get every last ounce of talent from their body.   He’s a solid guy.   I  like him, glad we have him.

I’m only explaining why Pascal gets overlooked here.

He has return ability , make up speed and can just plain cover. IMO , he's going to help us in those 3rd and longs that we've been giving up way to often.

Grover Stewart.

Think Stewart has always been solid eating up blocks but never really put up stats due to his role on the defense.  Not sure how the rotation will go with the DTs but I doubt he’ll be seeing double teams playing next to Buckner and Houston

I don't know. Everyone said the same thing about Hilton. I'm not saying Pascal is the next great colt WR, but I see a lot of great traits in Pascal. Sure hands, good route runner, willing and tough blocker.

“Everyone said the same thing about Hilton.”      On what planet?   In what alternate universe?   I have no idea what you’re talking about?

Hilton was a big play waiting to happen.   An explosive weapon.   No one says that about Pascal.

The million and one poster that said he's not number one WR. There are still people here that think that way.

    • Hmmmm, back in 1996 the Jets drafted a mega hyped receiver 1st overall Keyshawn Johnson. Pretty good career 13 years over 10,000 yds. 64 TD.  Guess who the Colts drafted at 19 that year? A hint, his son is the guy everybody wants this year. I think Marv Jr. will be at the least very good. Just pointing out, that sometimes the best in a class, aren't always the most hyped.
    • If they stay at 15 and grab a guy like Thomas, then they should take 2 more right after in case they miss. At this point, we need receivers so go get some.
    • I juat don't think with how this draft is loaded, they need to throw all their resources at one guy when u could get one at 15 who could be that guy and still retain your picks. Just not a smart move.
    • I knew someone would bring that up. Julio Jones was seen as a freak of nature. In terms of physical  traits, Marvin and Nabers r not quite there. Jones was just a man amongst boys and that is a very rare trade to go up that far.
    • The 2 year c ame after punishment was handed down to Rodgers.   https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/39437034/suspended-nfl-player-isaiah-rodgers-sr-says-bets-were-made-others   They all were suspended indefinitely for at least 2023 season while being able to file for reinstatement after conclusion of 2023 season    https://www.stampedeblue.com/2023/6/28/23777123/colts-isaiah-rodgers-suspended-2023-season-gambling-violations     so I guess it was kinda open ended, but I think most people thought it would just be the 1 season. I know the Eagles did.   https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.nbcsportsphiladelphia.com/nfl/philadelphia-eagles/jeff-lurie-optimistic-isaiah-rodgers-cleared-soon-nfl-suspension-gambling-policy/573635/%3famp=1     Now I agree he should've got more, just wasn't expecting the league to treat it differently from initial suspension (even though it was kinda left open ended, they were all looped together)     Every case is different and he clearly did worse things than pretty much all the other guys that were suspended.     Either way, the Eagles need to plan on not having him which will likely effect their draft plans.
