Chris Simms top 40 QB list

I can tell you right now, Dak will be in my top 10. He's top 10 in just about every stat. He is blessed with a great OL and skill players, but he's been killing it. And I'm not even a fan, or necessarily buying into his long term status. He just did way to well last year to keep him out of the top 10.

Yeah I based mine on stats some but also just the eye test too. It came down to Dak or Rivers for #10 for me. I actually like Cousins better than both but barely there too. If I just based it on last years stats then Big Ben wouldn't qualify. So a lot of it is how I feel.

 

I am just basing my list on who I would want for 2020. Of course if someone ask me who I want for the next 5 years, I would take Dak over Brady, Brees, Big Ben, and Rivers. He's younger.

Carr is in my Top 15 actually.

The list hasn't really bothered me so far based on the criteria he brings up with every unveiling...the ability to push the ball down the field.  Always talking about these QB's taking the 6 yard completion when there's a 30 yard option down the field...He even said Derek Carr would be a better QB if he was completing 66-67% instead of 72-73% if it meant he was taking some chances.

 

I do agree with whoever said Brady and Brees may end up making this list look foolish if for no other reason because the offenses around them are so loaded

 

So for this list, Rivers is about in the right spot.  We have to be a little realistic about arm strength.  He's always had that weird shot put delivery that hasn't particularly aged well.  Don't get me wrong, I think he can be very smart, very accurate, and ultimately successful, but I'm not expecting a lot of completions where the ball travels 50 yards in the air

Rivers belongs 10-12, he is way too low on Simms list too.

Phil Simms has been talking about his son Chris on the radio and television since Chris was in high school. Chris was a top prospect while in college. IIRC, he had to compete against a guy whose name I liked a lot back then -- Major Applewhite. I don't know if Chris Simms ever played in the NFL. His brother Matt Simms played for the Jets. Matt had fans calling for him to start the way Colts fans have clamored for Chad Kelly to be the starter. Matt showed flashes whenever he played in preseason.

That’s about right where I’d put Cousins as well. There is an argument that he can be top 10. Depends on who you ask.

Interestingly, CBS Sports just released a Top-10 QB list yesterday:

 

1.       Mahomes - If anyone has a chance to unseat Brady as the greatest quarterback of all time, it's Mahomes.

2.       Jackson - Don't let one bad playoff game lull you into thinking the Ravens are a gimmick. Jackson is poised to terrorize the NFL for the next decade.

3.       Wilson - At this point in his career, he's one of the three best quarterbacks (and the best deep-ball thrower) in football. And extremely consistent.

4.       Brees - No sign of decline. Without thumb injury, would have been in conversation for MVP (again).

5.       Prescott - Addition of Lamb. Author thinks Dak will be better than 5th best QB.

6.       Watson - Stills, Fuller, Cobb, Cooks. He can light it up, even without Hopkins.

7.       Stafford - Golladay, Jones, Hockenson. He was on fire last season before injury.

8.       Wentz - Reagor, Goodwin, very good TEs. Needs to elevate his play though.

9.       Brady - arguably the deepest and best receiving group of Brady's entire career. Age and decline last year dropped him to 9th.

10.     Roethlisberger - talented pass catchers, dependable offensive line. Elbow dropped him to 10th.

 

He said Rodgers, Cousins, Murray, and Garappolo just missed the cut.

 

I'm ok with his rankings. They seem a lot more reasonable than Simms silly list - I think Simms got drunk and blindfolded himself before throwing darts at a wall poster of NFL QBs to make his picks.

Real solid list, I would have Rodgers higher, at least top 10. I think Tannehill is too high as well. He had a nice stretch last season but was carried in the playoffs by his run game. Still overall very good , I can even buy Rivers at 15.

Rodgers just didn't do very well last year, and has struggled in a lot of areas the last couple years. While I think he's a good QB, I've always thought he was over hyped.

 

I think Tannehill has been a victim of some very bad teams, and last year was the victim of a very conservative game plan (gonna bet they open it up this year). Still, he killed it when called upon, and was rewarded for it.

 

Rivers last two years are night and day. I'd have him higher (top 10) if I was looking at 2018 season. I do think he'll be top 10 this year, but he's got to prove it. My rankings are based on "now", not a projection of what they'll be (stats from this season). Brady will be higher than he his at the end of the year with that supporting cast too.

I honestly didn't realize Rodgers QBR was that mediocre and before I did my list I looked at a lot of things. Regarding Tannehill, if he comes out balls this year then I will know last season wasn't a flash in the pan thing.

I don't care about PFT and the groupies who work there so I haven't been following this until, but it's one of two things, this list is a mess (putting Dalton by Burrow,  way to go on a limb) or there's not very many actually good QB's and most of the comparisons are a wash. Kirk Cousins isn't very good. Ryan Tannehill isn't very good either. I wouldn't actually want to watch them every Sunday.

Cam Newton is unemployed (while we pine for Kapernick, the Newton story is far more of a head scratcher from a football perspective) and his arm is at least as iffy as Luck's was.

 

Stuff to bicker about. I just think it could make more sense.

I could easily buy 20-25, even be somewhat OK with up to 16ish, IF they are clear in the assumption that his legs/running will be 100%. And that's a big if right now. He's simply just not that great of a passer.

I think in the 10-15 range. Hasn't shown same game as his MVP worthy season he got hurt, IMO.
