Players Colts could still use in Free Agency

Recommended Posts

Larry Warford tops the list for me. We have hardly any known depth on OL currently, and Warford could compete with Glow for the starting RG spot. Whoever loses out as the starter, would make a great backup.

Another option is LT Jason Peters, in case of injury to either Costanzo or Smith. Plus he has familiarity with Reich when he was in Philly.

Another guy I like is DE Everson Griffen. Clowney is another possibility at DE, unless Ballard wants to give more opportunity to our young DEs in Banogu and Tyquan Lewis.

Finally I like CB Logan Ryan. I live in Nashville so I see a lot of Titans games, and Ryan had a very good season for them last year. I think he could compete with Rhodes as the starter opposite Rock. Rhodes is no sure thing to rebound this year, and Ryan is one of those DBs that is very versatile, even able to play some safety.

I'm still hoping for Clowney and Warford seems to make sense but I have a feeling they are fine with Glowinski and will use our draft and cut down day to find the OL line depth.

I see very good depth at DE and doubt CB gives any serious consideration to spending more there.
Not a Glow fan, doubt they pay Warford unless it is mostly 1st year $$$. He won't come cheap?
I fully expect Eric Berry to touch base with us when he can go shopping. Probably a nice upgrade to Roland, and Hooker too perhaps. Safety and Glow are my biggest concerns.

It seems like quite a few Colts fans are satisfied with our defensive ends. It seemed a long, long way from "very good" though when I was watching our lack of a pass rush last season. I still think we need a difference maker there if we want to make a run at a championship.

The first step was dumping Sheard to improve.
I don't doubt Turay, Banogu, Lewis and Autry will combine to improve our end play.

We seem to have decent depth everywhere except OL

Warford coming over would improve RG and allow Glowinski to be that needed depth....

OT depth would still be a problem....

I can see us trying to get an aging vet to fill this spot

I don't know if any of those guys are better than Sheard, but Turay has shown some potential. Our coaches must have thought Sheard was better in previous years. I'd much rather have a proven end for 2020 and let Turay and Banogu continue to improve but not count on them as starters. I don't have any confidence in Lewis or Autry at this point.

Purely my opinion...

DL - probably the only position you might see a "big" name add is DE. We all know the two names (Clowney/Griffen). I could also see Sheard being added back to the team later once things shake out. Not sure how much the early knee injury impacted him, but his performance really dropped off.

OL - small chance here to see a decent name added, but I think we'll likely see action around cut down time. There are plenty of names out there still available though.

DB - I could see a S add, or even bringing Geathers back late in the process. I doubt we see any CB adds given what we've already picked up, but there are several interesting guys still available.

QB, RB, LB - no need.....

WR and TE - wouldn't be shocked to see late movement around cut down time.

You basically mentioned all the players I thought about including Logan Ryan who is a ball hawk. 4 INTs and 4.5 sacks in 2019.

Yes, he would be open to play free safety like Charles Woodson and so many others late in their lives, IMO. Plus, he provides injury insurance for Kenny Moore, by being able to play in the slot.

Same. The only player who is iffy would be LT Peters. Yes when healthy he is great and would cover an important position (LT), however I'm not sure if he's fully a go health wise?

With the likely reduced training camp, & less time to get guys integrated into the system, would it be worth re-signing Sheard at the right price?  Even as a backup?  Just asking.

I’m in favor if it.   Always have been.  But listening to Eberflus in interviews you get the feeling they are focused on the kids.  Turay, Benagu, Lewis and Autry.

I think by adding Buckner to the Dline, you’ve upgraded each other mans talents as well along the line, he was that good. I think with Buckner and Stewart pushing them middle back, it’s going to create enough gaps for lb’ers to shoot and for the ends to reach the edges as the QB won’t be able to take 7 steps back and survey the field most every snap. Lewis May even show why he was drafted this year if he has increased his raw production and is healthy. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve been saying dump JB and his remaining cap hit and pick up Clowney for a year or even Griffin. That money would be better spent there as opposed to JB and clip holding. But adding Buckner alone has improved the ability of the Dline tremendously with just the guys we have imho.

I'm pretty certain the plan will be to start Houston and Muhammed at DE, with Buckner and Autry/Day/Lewis at DT.... Rotate in the Data, with Banogu, Turay, etc. At DE.....

I would like to see Autry at LDE

Muhammed looks awesome one play then average the next...... I hope he puts it together

I am coming around to the notion that the Colts are done on the Defense for this year.

I think (hope) that they at least bring in an OT for depth.....

I think you're right on both counts. The youngsters on the defensive line are ready to show what they can do; the Colts aren't spending any more big $ there.  But another OT/swing type player is truly needed. Its a glaring hole.

    • Appreciate the adv stats.    While one way to say it is that Wilson and Rhodes look pretty good, another way of saying it is that the secondary has been looking better with Hooker and Rock not playing.
    • Lenny Moore is always overlooked. He was on the All NFL First 50 Years Team, and ended in the NFL’s top seasons’ productions. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lenny_Moore   Moore retired from professional football after the 1967 season. In 12 seasons and 143 regular season games he scored 111 total touchdowns, accumulated 11,213 total yards, made seven Pro Bowls, and five all-NFL teams. His uniform number 24 was retired by Baltimore, and in 1969 a sportswriters' poll named him to the NFL's 50th Anniversary Team. In 1975 Moore was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame, and was named to the NFL’s 1950s All Decade Team. In 1999, The Sporting News' ranked Moore 71st on its list of the 100 Greatest Football Players. He is the only player in NFL history to have at least 40 receiving touchdowns and 40 rushing touchdowns. Football Outsiders, in their book Pro Football Prospectus 2007, named six of his seasons among the top 500 running back seasons of all time, which was tied for the 5th most seasons among the top 500 of any player. Moore's retired number is honored along with all of the other Baltimore Colts retired numbers in M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore, home of the Baltimore Ravens.
    • Check my offense and defense out, I would put them up against anyone.
    • Just to mention the criteria I meant was even if they played one game with us so yes Andre Johnson would snd should of been on my list had I not forgotten about him lol. I’m not really educated on colts teams from the past (right before Peyton got here). It’s cool to see some of the Pre manning colts fans opinions and on who our best were and how they would match up to other teams best.   btw I prob should of changed the criteria to maybe a full season or two or what they did for the colts, I was just thinking about the names and talent that we have assembled and what could of been if they all played together during their primes against other teams assembled the same way.
