Isaiah Rodgers putting in work

CR91

Recommended Posts

Kid has blazing speed and excellent ball skills.  So many CBs struggle with turning to find the ball.  Rodgers becomes a WR when the ball is in the air.

Think he has the potential to be a great backup Nickel early in his career.  This was one of my favorite picks in this class, TBH.

Colts have to figure a way to get this kid on the field as a rookie even if its in sub package's.

Hopefully not to much longer. This team will not b an elite team if it continues to play primarily zone defence. Need to mix it up. Qbs today r to good

Zone defense only works if you can get pressure. Think of teams like the Seahawks and Vikings. Even the 49ers played a lot of zone. It works, but you need to win upfront.

He needs some weight room

173 lbs is going to get BROKEN

He will need to bring down a 220 plus Lb RB in the open field

I wish him luck.... but hope he stays healthy

You wonder if he can put on the muscle that he'll need at the pro level. Obviously those questions were asked by the Colts; they must think he can. Shouldn't take much......185 lbs ought to do it.

Gets beat in some of of the routes but closes in and regains and wins. If a real qb was throwing the ball would have been there already and he wouldn’t have been to regain like he was doing. Still a rookie clearly hopefully this training helps him!

We should this year with Buckners help. At least, more than before.

Agreed to some extent.  Look at th4 amount of resources the 49ers have up front.  Thst is  very hard to duplicate

Yeah the trickiest thing for him will be putting on that weight AND maintaining his speed and explosiveness. If he can get to 185, he can be an ideal Nickel corner.

49ers are only one example. There are plenty of teams that have run a form of the zone defense that have had success.

Name them and I am talking in the present.  I have listened to a GM, who I respect, and he that states the Seattle style D is dated and teams that currently run it struggle. U cannot hope to run a defensive style that sticks to one basic scheme 90% of the time. It's like running the ball 90% of the time. U need flexibility. I may be a little dramatic with my comparison, but I think u get my point.

I'm not saying for us to only run cover 2. Obviously that's not gonna work. What I am saying is running a zone defense works if you can win upfront.

Yea and my response to that is u better have one hell of a D line. It is hard to get 4 great D line when u r picking late.

Buckner and Houston are already really good pieces. Turay, Benogu, and Lewis are still developing and we have very good depth in Autry and Stewart. It's getting there.

I think he's got a lot of potential to be our kick return specialist (with Hines handling punt returns).  I think he's also got a lot of potential to be a very solid gunner for us with his speed and athleticism, very early on.

If he makes the team, I see him as the backup nickel and used in situational packages.  He seems to have a knack for creating turnovers.

He plays bigger than he measures.  Likely, if he plays D at all (I project him more as a return guy and gunner, at least as a rookie), it'll be in a nickel or dimeback situation... he's not going to be on the field that much (at least as a rookie), so I doubt he'll get 'broken'.

If you're talking about Derrick Henry (one of the only LB sized RB's in the league), there are very few defensive backs that can take him down 1 on 1 consistently throughout the entire league.  We've got a fast defense that swarms to the ball... and more likely than not, Rodgers will be playing fairly close to the line of scrimmage if he's on the field, so  he should have safeties and outside corners behind him... regardless, if Henry gets to the 3rd level of our D (or any team's D) it is going to be trouble.

Well, good thing Rodgers ran a 4.28 forty.  If he bulks up 10-15 pounds and moves to a 4.38 forty, he's still one of the fastest dudes in the league.

I am not trying to b negative. Buckner is a stud.  Houston is getting old. Turay shows signs but is often injured. Lewis has been a healthy scratch and Bangou has small glimpses.
