Let’s start the Eason vs Kelly battle

Recommended Posts

This is kind of funny. Eason was a freshman though and Kelly had more experience.

LOL

Sheeze, Chloe..... picking fights already?

I think there are a few possible outcomes.....

1) If they are both equally average. Eason makes the Team, CK does not, JB Stays

2) If Eason is excellent and CK is average or less, CK is gone , JB Stays

3) If CK is excellent and Eason is way below average , Eason is cut , JB Stays

4) If they BOTH are excellent, they both stay, and a conversation of trade or cut goes to JB

I will take option 4, thank you very much!

Peyton Manning got destroyed by Danny Wuerffel and the Gators. How did that end up playing out?

Eason would gave to be absolutely terrible to get cut this year IMO. I just dont see why the colts would spend a 4th round pick on a developmental QB, knowing hes a project, only to cut him a few months later.

I know 4th rounders arent guaranteed roster spots but given the position I feel drafting Eason there carries more weight.

the real question of who gets cut is Kelly or Jacoby........

I still don’t see us carrying three QB. I know with the way PS can be used it makes it a little easier to do so. Plus with no off season work do you really want a rookie as a backup.

There is no question.  The Colts are going to keep Rivers, Jacoby, and Eason.

yes I know Ballard talked about Eason having to win the number three job from Kelly but if you read stuff about Eason the reports are he has an ego and a questionable work ethic.  It’s team building 101 to take a guy like that a make him have to earn everything he gets and not just give it to him.

The Colts didn’t take Eason in the fourth round just to take a flyer on him.  They know they have to develop him but they also know if they try to stash him on the PS some team is going to sign him.

Also the Colts have made it clear that Rivers and Jacoby are one and two.  That’s not even in question if you listen to everything the team says.  The team likes Jacoby even if the fans don’t.  They aren’t interested in giving Kelly a shot just to see what they have if they were they would have done that the last two games last year after they were out of the playoff picture.

I think the truth is the Colts feel like they know what they have in Kelly and that’s a kid who couldn’t beat out Hoyer for the number two job.  For those that say well we haven’t seen him in a game that’s true but they have seen him in practice and pre-season games and have seen and studied him more than anyone here.  Reich and Ballard know what it takes to be a good QB and I think it’s pretty clear they don’t feel Kelly has it.  I know Kelly looked good in the pre-season last year but people need to remember he did that mostly at the end of games against other teams guys who aren’t in the NFL had very little chemistry playing together and zero game planning.  Who you play against in the pre-season matters.

The bottom line If they thought Kelly had enough upside for a backup or future starter they would not of drafted Eason. Eason would have to really screw up to not make the team.

I think we're going to have this discussion for awhile.  We're close to having a complete team, and Rivers is going to play well (gut feeling). Clean pocket, running game, defense.  Let him manage the game.  I think he's the starter next year (another 1 yr deal).  Imo I think that's what Ballard is hoping for.

I wasn’t trying to bait anyone. I just thought It was funny they have actually played against each other. Some people need to lighten up.

I believe you weren't trying to bait anyone but it did come off that way.

Knowing how protective the Kelly fans have been you should have seen it coming. :spit:

Beware of trying to be funny or make a joke.

There are a few thin skinned and easy to offend fans it seems.

I found that earlier by making a sarcastic comment about Trump.

I kinda hope they dump Jacoby and Let Kelly and Eason battle it out. We know what we have in Brissett and that is a quality back up at best. I don't see the point in keeping him around if all he's doing is taking practice snaps away from the other 2.

Well I mean, it is against the forum

rules, but no I personally don’t mind as long as she is OK being called on it.

But don’t pretend you didn’t mean to do something after you tell everyone in the previous post exactly what you hoped would happen...in this case get the Kelly fans all worked up.

On the topic of Kelly not beating out Hoyer for number 2 last season. I see the situation more likely that management didn't want to put any eggs in the Kelly basket until he proved to them that he isn't a complete %head.

Yes. I have started a thread that was removed or closed for "baiting". My guess is this one will be closed as well.

Say goodbye to Mr. Kelly. The Eason experiment is now on. For the next two seasons. After which he either takes over for Rivers.....Or goes bumpily into the night.

I don’t think it really matters to Ballard and the coaching staff when it comes to Kelly’s talent. the bigger concern is if he’s a team player, and leader. That is why we have not given up on Jacoby, regardless of what we think, he has that maturity and  leadership quality that you look for in a quarterback.

It's time for all the Chad Kelly fans to realize his time is up just like the Jacoby Brissett fans!!!  The real qb on this team is Phillip Rivers for the next two yrs and all talk should be about that instead of a backup!

I highly doubt Jacoby gets cut.  If I had to guess, we'll keep Rivers, Jacoby and Eason and maybe try to stash Kelly on the PS again.

Anyhow, if Jacoby's not a Colt next year, I highly doubt he's going to get cut.  I could see us potentially trading him to a team (potentially NE) for a 5th round pick or another player, but I doubt he just gets axed.

How does the roster expansion impact this?  IMO, could easily be used as an easy way to justify a 3rd QB.

Also, if we throw Eason on the PS, another team is going to grab him, no doubt.

And, Jacoby proved he can win some games as the starting QB.  You're probably right, we don't want to rely on a rookie who has a very talented arm and prototype NFL size for a QB to be trusted to win games.

If Rivers is out for an extended period of time, I don't know that Jacoby could lead us deep into the playoffs, but he was able to keep us in the race in the AFC South last year with an injury riddled WR/TE corps and a less than stellar D last year.  Assuming we have no major injuries to our skill positions, we've improved the WR cast this year, added a serious threat at RB to compliment Mack and we've made significant improvements on paper with our D.  I would trust with this team, Jacoby could keep us in the AFC South race if needed.. and if Rivers was to go down for 1-2 games, I think Jacoby (depending who the match up is) could get a win or 2.. not sure Eason will be ready for 1-3 years, but unless he's absolutely awful, I can't imagine we cut him or risk trying to stash him away on PS.

Yes, Ballard pretty much said that in a couple interviews.  He said he thinks Kelly has the physical make up and enough skill to last in this league but he also said Kelly had to prove every day over a long period of time that he could keep his off-field behavior in line.

I assume on option 3, when you say Eason is cut,  you mean with the intention of making it to the Practice Squad.   Is that correct?

I just dont understand the concept behind keeping Jacoby and his $20 MIL on this roster when you have a qb in Rivers that don't miss a snap??  Add in he's playing behind the #1-3 OL, it doesn't make sense to carry such an expensive backup??  I get it that Jacob Eason is 1-2 yrs away from NFL ready but you have a less expensive option in Chad Kelley just in case.  Either way, I'm not going to get all worked up over the backup option when Rivers can light it up for at least 2 more yrs!!!

So lets just put all our eggs in the Hoyer basket and lose two critical games that proved he is nothing more than a complete %head??  At least you would've known what you have and couldn't get any worse record wise??  We lost to the lowly Dolphins at our OWN stadium so how worse could've it have gotten??
