This guy is more talented than advertised. And better under pressure than his critics claim. I’m excited to see his progress over time. Solid pick. Great value. Time will tell if the Colts  got hugely lucky or not. But to get this guy in the 4th round? That was a no brainer. Colts fans should be enthused.

No doubt that we got a steal and don't understand the lack of enthusiasm but maybe its because were so locked in on Rivers that the Eason project is on the back burners?  Just wait Colt Fans, just wait!

I think when camp starts it’s going to become clear he is better then Jacoby.  Hopefully he shows enough this first year Reich and Ballard will say yeah he can be the guy and won’t be looking for anyone new. He gets the bell out so quick. He is more of a athlete then given credit for too. Makes me mad we are dealing with this virus because rookie mini camp would be coming up.

A lot of great throws there but the last one wowza!

The most glaring issue with Eason is his footwork.

If Rivers and Reich can be his mentors mentally I think Marcus Brady can help him big time with his footwork and mechanics.

Colts could very well bring in an outside specialist

Crazycolt1, I'm no qb expert but alot has been said about footwork and less about crazy arm strength.  Most qb's need great footwork to be able to step into throws so they don't come up short but if you have a big arm is it as big a problem as most make it seem?  His vids show him throwing darts and I would think at this level the pass catchers can handle some heat.  It's not like Eric "Stone" Hands is still on the roster to worry about and I remember the same talk in Titletown when Farve first arrived.  Eason can spin the ball 62 mph which will cut right through that Foxboro wind that our prior Messiah's could not do.  All of Eason's faults are correctable with good NFL coaching but being 6'6 230 and possess a spiraling fireball, you cannot teach!  I expected this kind of raw negativity for Love but not so much for a highly touted college recruit in Eason.  It will be a Prayer answered when all said and done!

Unfortunately, one dimensional Quarterbacks (pocket passers) are a dying breed in the NFL. 4 mobile Quarterbacks were drafted in the first 2 rounds this year and next year there are possibly 4 coming into the league. Lawrence, Fields, Lance, and Newman.  If a QB is going to stay in the pocket nowadays he has to be aware of whats around him. Eason doesn't have to possess Lamar, Mahomes, or Watson speed to be a successful QB. There wasn't a defender near Eason and he should've got the 1st down easily with his legs.

I made a mistake in my previous post. The play I'm talking about is in the 2nd video not the 1st.

I dont understand this philosophy and where is it coming from Downhill?  Are you saying you wouldn't take a rookie Peyton Manning or heck the GOAT, Tom Brady?  Am I the only one that thinks Lamar Jackson is overrated and will get hurt sooner than later?  Am I the only one that thinks Mahomes is a terrible pocket passer qb and the secret formula is to keep him in the pocket?  I hope I'm not the only one who thinks Watson is a one trick pony in escaping the pocket to throw deep on blown coverage?  I'm sorry but all three of these guys I mentioned are just average at being an actual qb and only thrive on busted plays.  I'm pretty sure our D staff has the gameplan to contain all three qb's and that is to force them to play qb by keeping them in the pocket and not let them outside.  Give me that 6'6 Rocket Arm qb anyday over these running qb's as it will be contained sooner than later.

Great arm, good accuracy, poor under pressure, rumored poor work ethic. The first two can't be taught, the next two are gonna be on him to overcome. He couldn't have asked for a better system to be put into to help him with those issues so if he busts, it's gonna be all on him.

I agree 100%.  What made Peyton so great was not his arm, footwork or mobility (I kid) but his desire to be the best of the best and that meant being the first to arrive and last to leave.  Of course it helped he was so much smarter than everyone on the coaching staff but he needed every bit of those brains because he was limited physically.  Insert Eason, who is as gifted as they come physically but does he have the desire to become great?  He doesn't need Peyton's smarts because he has the tools but he does need the work ethic and the desire to become better than everybody else or he will fail!  That's what scares me is the ones with all the tools seem to not have the desire that is needed to succeed.  It's no wonder 6th rd Tom Brady became the GOAT from such a limited skill set but he WANTED IT.  Peyton wanted it as did Kurt Warner!  Does Jacob Eason WANT IT?

I don’t think it’s a question of talent.  Outside of not being super mobile he has all the tools to be a late first second pick.  It’s a question of work ethic and what he has upstairs.  That’s why I wasn’t shocked to hear Ballard say he’s going to have beat out Kelly for the number three spot.  They aren’t going to do anything to feed into his ego, if he has one.  They are going to make him earn it and hopefully humble him along the way if his ego is truly a concern.

I personally believe this was Ballards #1 goal when he told fans to pump the brakes on this kid and that was so Eason wouldn't read the clippings and get a big head.  If Eason fell to the 4th rd due to lack of work ethic and want, why does he play the game in the first place?  You always hear the great athletes having the love of the game and then you hear players like Rosen who could care less if he plays football or not and it shows.  I guarantee the staff will find out quick what they got and listen to their actions, not their words.

I watched all 3 videos.  He got a LOT of pressure in his face and his receivers dropped a LOT of balls that hit their hands.  So now I'm wondering what the quality of players he was working with.  He did make some bad throws, mostly under pressure, but it doesn't appear to me he had a lot of help either.  Of course two of those 3 opponents were against ranked teams, so there's that.

I was not a fan before the draft, still don't think he'll be a stud or anything, but I'm willing to give it some time and have him work with Sirianni and Reich and see if he can be coached up.  The measurables and arm talent are there.

How about this 4th that shows a Rocket Arm?

There have been quite a few "rocket" arm QBs through out the history of the NFL.

Having a big time arm does automatically relate to wins in the NFL.

Footwork does relate to wins no matter what the arm strength is. The reason Peyton Manning and Tom Brady were so good was their accuracy. That comes from their footwork. Both of them spent untold amounts of practice time just working on their mechanics. Both of these QBs knew when to put touch on the ball. (heck, Manning didn't even throw tight spirals by most standards)

I am not saying Eason will be a bust but till he learns how to be a NFL QB he won't give himself a chance. That is exactly what Ballard was referring to when talking about him.

As a Colt fan I hope Eason becomes a great NFL QB but assuming he will be great because of his arm strength is a mistake.

Yeah Reich mentioned that after the draft Friday. He said football is more then just the arm. But Eason has the part you can’t tesch so we will see if he can up  the mental part of the game and clean up his mechanics.

That's why he went in the 4th.  No guarantees on him, certainly a developmental prospect.

Just a gut feeling I have but I don’t think ballard would ever take a developmental QB in the first or second. He is smart and knows those picks are better used to better the team. I bet he even had a 3rd or 4th rd grade on Love. He was to much of a project.

Absolutely right. The good news is that they have a situation where they can be patient with Eason. That is what he'll require......great teachers and patience to let it all soak in and take. He has the physical tools you can't teach and the staff around him to get his talent to the next level. Now it will be up to him to work his tail off and be a sponge. With the no nonsense, accountable locker room the Colts have, I like Eason's chances.

Another good breakdown of some of his plays. He is very good at throwing guys open. Always fun to see how quick he gets rid of the ball. Seems to read a defense pretty quick.

Thanks Chloe for another great breakdown of Jacoby Eason that just shows for ever highlight, there will be a lowlight.  For Jacob Eason to become a star in this league, he will have to want it like Peyton or Brady did several years ago.  Only difference is Eason has the tools that neither Peyton or Brady had coming into this game and that is a 6 million dollar right arm!  If he has the drive, the Colts will certainly thrive but lets see!!!

Yeah I know but Brett was told he would never make a NFL QB his rookie season.

Now we have some who think that of Eason.

Expect the unexpected in the NFL. It's always full of surprises.

Maybe Eason has a chance to be one of those guys, I don't know but I'm not writing him off just yet. :D

Don't forget that Farve sucked as a rookie with the Falcons and was traded to GB, where he was coached and then alowed to let his natural gifts take over.

In terms of subtle movements within the pocket . . . one of the knocks on him was that he didn't climb the pocket to help his tackles.  So if he just learns to climb the pocket that would be a pretty substantial improvement in and of itself.

I think Eason falling to the Colts is going to pay off in the long run.

With Frank and Marcus Brady working with him he will only get better.

After watching all the tape of him I could find I believe he has better touch on the ball than advertised. He does throw his receivers open.

Personally I think in two years we are going to have a very good QB.

That is going to coincide with Michael Pittman becoming a great receiver.

I think he has a long way to go in development, but I’ll say this much: had he not missed two seasons between Georgia and Washington he probably would’ve been in the first round.

The one thing that’s driving me crazy is seeing that he keeps turning his back to the line of scrimmage when he starts scrambling, from high school to both colleges. He’s gotta work on keeping his eyes down field.

That should come as he learns to trust his offensive line.

Like I said earlier, him coming to the Colts has to be one of the better places for him to land. There are a lot of positive things he can learn from here.

Eason could very well have a productive career similar but probably not at the level of Beth Rothlesburger. Big Ben had some sneaky running ability. He took a pounding over the years. Eason unfortunately is going to have to use his legs in the NFL there's no two ways about it.  Winning plays is all that really matters in Not For Long league.  That said, I could possibly see him being the full time starter in 2-3 years. I believe Reich keeps Kelly because he may envision utilizing him in a wildcat/option situation. Those two could not be more different and for some reason I feel there is a reason polar opposite style QB's are still on the same team.  If they end up cutting Kelly, they pretty much have to keep JB for some semblance of footwork and running ability. Rivers isnt going to risk anything at this point in his career.

This Is kind of cool. Eason is working out with his group today and it includes Patmon and Pittman  in CA. They should have a nice little vibe going by training camp.

Where did you hear that?
