As stated in an earlier post... Welcome to Indy Mr. Burton, let's hope you don't turn out to be a Nightmare before Christmas!! :excited::thmup::funny:

In all seriousness, if he's Healthy he is going to be a beast and Reich knows how to use him where Nagy did not.

Stoked about this one!!

Free agent TE Trey Burton has agreed to terms with the #Colts, per @EnterSportsMgmt. Back together with coach Frank Reich. He gets a 1-year deal worth the minimum... but he gets a total of $4M that’s already guaranteed from the #Bears. https://twitter.com/RapSheet/status/1253081027532161030?s=20

You have to be happy when another team is paying the majority of his salary

You get a veteran who should already know his way around this playbook for the veteran minimum. Could also mean Ballard wasn’t in love with the tightends in this draft or could be looking in the later rounds maybe Thaddeus Moss perhaps?

Great signing! I love it. We remove one more immediate and urgent need to address in the draft. Won't get boxed in - only draft TE if he's BPA. Nice. This made too much sense not to happen.

Now lets see if we trade a late round pick for Alshon Jeffery. Another one that makes tons of sense.

Awesome signing.  We shouldn't expect a TE being drafted early if at all.

Probably rules out TE high in draft, also.

I don't think it rules out TE early, but it gives Ballard the freedom to not reach to address that need. If we draft one, we will know he was BPA.

That's what makes the vet min make sense.  $4M in the bank already.  He knew his best chance of having a great season was with Frank.  He saw what happened with Ebron.  We can thank Frank for this signing.

This is a good signing. Burton knows the Reich offense; he has talent; and he's obviously passed the health test. And he fills a genuine need.

I still hope a move TE is drafted. A team that runs the ball like the Colts and also wants to incorporate a 2 TE offense as their go to formation needs 4 TEs.

What are his strengths and weaknesses? Not familiar with him. Thanks

He's only 6-2, 230s, short arms, so pretty small for a TE. More of a detached TE or H back running out of the slot. He signed at the minimum, so not going to complain. He can be a nice situational weapon if used in the right way

Burton can be good when healthy. Now if we draft claypool  and use him as a te and another  wr the offense will be  good

Really like the Burton signing. Nothing to lose here and Burton is already familiar with Frank and his offense. While I do agree that a player like (a healthy) Jeffery is needed, I do think we go the draft route on that end - too many good receivers in this draft that can be had on rookie contracts and not for the mess that is Alshon Jeffery's contract from a team perspective:

We were middle of the pack in terms of 2TE frequency (30%, ranked like 13ish) last year, and 21% (like 17ish) in 2018. In short, I'd bet we're closer to 2018 this year with Rivers than last year with JB. So really not a "go-to" formation.

    • Hmmmm, back in 1996 the Jets drafted a mega hyped receiver 1st overall Keyshawn Johnson. Pretty good career 13 years over 10,000 yds. 64 TD.  Guess who the Colts drafted at 19 that year? A hint, his son is the guy everybody wants this year. I think Marv Jr. will be at the least very good. Just pointing out, that sometimes the best in a class, aren't always the most hyped.
    • If they stay at 15 and grab a guy like Thomas, then they should take 2 more right after in case they miss. At this point, we need receivers so go get some.
    • I juat don't think with how this draft is loaded, they need to throw all their resources at one guy when u could get one at 15 who could be that guy and still retain your picks. Just not a smart move.
    • I knew someone would bring that up. Julio Jones was seen as a freak of nature. In terms of physical  traits, Marvin and Nabers r not quite there. Jones was just a man amongst boys and that is a very rare trade to go up that far.
    • The 2 year c ame after punishment was handed down to Rodgers.   https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/39437034/suspended-nfl-player-isaiah-rodgers-sr-says-bets-were-made-others   They all were suspended indefinitely for at least 2023 season while being able to file for reinstatement after conclusion of 2023 season    https://www.stampedeblue.com/2023/6/28/23777123/colts-isaiah-rodgers-suspended-2023-season-gambling-violations     so I guess it was kinda open ended, but I think most people thought it would just be the 1 season. I know the Eagles did.   https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.nbcsportsphiladelphia.com/nfl/philadelphia-eagles/jeff-lurie-optimistic-isaiah-rodgers-cleared-soon-nfl-suspension-gambling-policy/573635/%3famp=1     Now I agree he should've got more, just wasn't expecting the league to treat it differently from initial suspension (even though it was kinda left open ended, they were all looped together)     Every case is different and he clearly did worse things than pretty much all the other guys that were suspended.     Either way, the Eagles need to plan on not having him which will likely effect their draft plans.
