Possible Colts Trade Target?

If rumors are true and the Jets are making safety  Jamal Adams available, what would be his price tag if the Colts made a trade?

If this is all about money for the Jets then we could offer them Hooker in a straight player position swap.  It's not apples for apples but they wouldn't get killed in the trade and they would avoid all of the drama that is about to come for them.  Could even add a later pick to the trade if need be.  No harm having the conversation if they are serious.

I still think the best chance of acquiring a player in a trade is Hooker for OJ Howard.  You have to put yourself in Ballards shoes.  If he decided to make Hooker available in a trade what would he want in return?  A 1st?  I think no one will offer him a 1st so he would probably like a 2nd.  The same price the Bucs want for Howard.  Both young 1st rd. starters from the same class.  We get a new starting TE and replace Hooker with Odum or someone else.  This is a conversation I would be willing to have if I were Chris.  Anyway the draft is finally almost here.  Trades could start heating up soon.

The Colts may still be interested in bringing Eric Berry in.  Ballard has talked about veteran leadership, and he has experience with him.

I doubt they'd make a move for Adams, even though he is a great player.

He would likely cost a first plus possibly more. We do not have a first this year and I highly doubt they want to trade next years. So I do the think we would be in the running for him.

I saw delpit in a few mocks as one of our 2nd round picks and i thought “is safety THAT big of a need” over some of the other positions?

No.  But I think its a bigger need than most think.  All season, the two biggest needs for immediate upgrade were DT and QB.  That has been taken care of, and WR is now clearly the biggest need.

Personally.  OT is not a need, but a depth/future issue.  Corners are young, not an immediate need yet since we don't know what we have.  DEs the same way.

We know what we have in our RBs...are we completely happy there?

We know what we have at TE...are we happy?

And, we know what we have at S.....are we happy?

All three of those positions are immediately up gradable if the right player is sitting there at 34 or 44, IMO.

Would the Jets take pick 34 for Adams?

I don't think safety is a big need.  I would guess we are comfortable there.  Same for TE.  Not a big need but a need.  Not really happy at RB.  A position group that is vulnerable and needs strengthening.  WR a big need.  I think it would take more than pick 34 to get Adams.   JMO.

Why?

Leonard is much more valuable to us than Adams, who is mostly a box safety and has a huge mouth. Adams has two picks in 3 years, and although he is all around the ball, Willis isn't much of a downgrade and Leonard is a huge upgrade from just having Walker and Okereke.

Add to the fact that Adams wants a new contract and is threatening to hold out makes this an easy no.

So you'd give up a pro-bowl talent at a position that is top 5 (importance to our D scheme) for a pro-bowl talent at a position that is arguably bottom 5 to our D scheme?

And i always like the bpa idea over need anyway.  In theory.

Could u imagine Buckner and Adams for our #1 and #2?  Only real downside is you are losing the “cap-friendiness” of the draft picks.  Adams wouldnt cone cheap.  But we’ve seen what a good safety can add.  Look at Pitt adding one for a #1 last year.  It instantly changed their D.

I would like to see some more depth on OL tho.  Maybe after cuts if not draft.

He wants out because it was rumoured the Jets wanted to move him last yeat.  I think he is still *.  Adams can play free safety, box safety and some big.  He's a freak

Adams can play all safety positions plus some nickel.  He is an enforcer.

I would put Adams at free safety and Willis at steong safety.  I would move Hooker in a trade.  I would then put Bobby at WLB. Leave Walker at middle and hope Speed can eventually move to one of the starting lb positions.  He is so physical and adds the enforcer mentality like Adams. There now with Buckner u have fixed the D.

He's played all over out of some necessity, but he's not a FS. He's an enforcer near the line at strong/box/robber

Except you traded the D’s heart to NY.

I agree he is more of a strong safety but he is very flexible.  Could always move Willis to free or keep Hooker if u want and keep him at free safety. No issue with keeping all 3 of them as there r situations where u can use all   3 safeties.

Willis is not capable of FS. He's a very limited box guy. The only guy really I could see working out as a legit FS (other than Hooker) on our roster is Tell, and they're trying to convert him to CB because he hasn't been physical enough for S. If he could develop his body a bit, maybe.

In short, no way I'd trade Leonard for Adams. I'd be OK adding Adams, but not trade him for Leonard.

Willis may not capable at free and Hooker hasn't shown much either.  I forgot about Tell and I do like his physical make up. I just think guys like Adams come along ever so often.  He could be our Lynch. We got Buckner who may be our Sapp. Now we just need a Brooks. I am really high on Bobby in coverage. His run D needs work but he is some what under sized.

Ok, well, it WAS a productive conversation.

Well when someone uses heart as a reason for not trading a player that is not measurable.

    • Lay off Willis!!! The kid gets the job done!  If anyone thinks ss is "least demanding " db position, they've no idea what the position entails.  Get real!!!
    • Bud Dupree likely suffered a ACL injury today for the Steelers. That might help the colts when they play them.
    • Well,  we can agree with Campbell’s problem being bad luck. He has genuine promise but who knows if he can make it back fully healthy or if he can stay healthy.  Because of that, the Colts have to be aggressive in finding another WR. I’m hoping it’s via Free Agency. We all know the old adage that WRs take time to develop. The Colts need an impact player right now. It’s a weakness and must be addressed.
    • Your missing the point.  Great players are what make a team something.  Of course if you take them away a team is nothing.  That’s true of any team in the league not just the Titans.
    • There won’t be a playoff game if he missed to much time. Reich said today he isn’t putting a timetable on it. It’s up to AC when he practiced or if he think he can play. Leaving it up to him.
