I do believe it’s likely we trade up to 22 for Love...

I’d actually prefer we trade up from 44 with next year’s 2nd...but think your scenario is more likely.

I have no inside info, but I just can’t see the Colts going after Love with a trade

He was in range at 13

If they truly wanted Love..... they would have just kept the pick....

If he is there at 34..... AND , CB still thinks he is the answer.... take him there

I just don’t see it now

If he falls in range there's a great chance we could trade up. Obviously if we have to trade up too far then it's not an option but that kinda depends how the draft falls.

Trading up for the future of the franchise isn't always a waste.

Texans I'm sure are happy with Watson and I guarantee Chiefs are excited they traded up for Mahomes.

You may end up being right but in neither of your examples, if I remember correctly, did the Chiefs or Texans have original drafts spots that could have picked their QB they wanted... THEN traded THAT pick away then shift again later.

They didn’t start with a draft pick that they could have made the pick with

My point being..... if YOUR guy is within your original pick range, you don’t risk not being able to find a trade partner later

Another reason, IMHO, we paid big money for a QB to win NOW......  If that’s your strategy why give away needed VERY early, contribute now picks to then implement a win later strategy.

Again, I may end up being wrong... but it just doesn’t seem to

 fit

Another way of looking at this is that the Colts valued the Buckner trade higher than any other option at the 13th pick. That said, if they see a chance to get Love (if he's their guy), and the cost is reasonable in their eyes, why not? I can see valuing Buckner as the better use of the first pick but also being willing to take a shot with a player who needs work but has great promise at their other greatest position of need. Win win.
