...“[We plan] to have a sitdown with Adam and see where he’s at once he’s a little further along in that process,” Reich said, via the Indianapolis Star.

Vinatieri is not under contract, so the Colts would have to make a call on re-signing the NFL’s all-time leading scorer if he does want to return...

We know what his future is.  It's Chase Mclaughlin.

Exactly.   There should be no need for a discussion.  AV should not even want to come back and he certainly shouldn't put the Colts in a position where they feel they owe it to him.   He cashed in all his IOU's last season.   I'll be pretty bummed if they bring AV back.   Don't let Chase go.  The kid is good.   On XP's, he was 79/79 in college and is 26/26 in the NFL.   From 50+ he was 3/3.   Colts would be foolish to let him go and keep an over the hill lesser kicker.

just a thought, but we could carry both if we wanted. Give AV the chance to redeem himself, if he doesn't, cut him with a kicker on the roster.

Might as well since we’re carrying $40M+ in QBs. What’s another $5M in kickers?

vinny wont cost 5 mil per. maybe 1.5 mil

It is kinda crazy to think they would keep 2. But.  Look at how many teams struggled to find a kicker last yr and over the past few. They have a guy like Chase which I like BTW and then the floor drops out and he gets cut.  Some costing playoff wins.

I may be mistaken but doesn't AV have a couple of records in sight this yr?  Not a reason to keep him, but I would rather he got them here than somewhere else.

Again  not saying keep him, I'm just being open minded

i am in the same thought actually.

besides, we now have an extra man we can carry. 54 vs 53. it wouldn't be terrible for that to be an extra kicker. If Vinny stinks it up again, we simply move on, bring someone else up from the PS like we would any other position.

I think it would.  Especially a 47 year old kicker.  I, in no way, hope Ballard keeps 2 kickers on the roster.  I'd love to see AV in a coaching role, but not taking up a roster spot.

I don't hope he does either. I'm just saying it is one plausible option. I personally think AV needs to hang them up. he's done enough and is going to be the GOAT kicker for decades to come if not forever. no one else is even close to his stats and records.

Time to move on.  I'm not buying the whole injury excuse.  AV was horrible in week 1.  If injury really caused this terrible season than it was an injury that existed before the season even started.

Give him a ceremonial one day contract, announce his retirement and add him to the ring.

We moved on from a HOF QB because it was the best thing long term for the team, we can move on from a HOF kicker because it's the best thing for the team.

I agree. Moving on from Manning was way harder bc he was drafted as a Colt. AV shouldn't be a question considering he came over from the Patriots.

I'm not advocating for keeping him - it's a tough decision for the FO I'm sure. But I'm thinking we won't be in nearly as many 1-score games this coming season. If that is true, having Vinny around won't be nearly as potentially detrimental as it was last season.

He has been a Colt longer than he has been a Patriot.

They are negotiating a 2-game contract for him to get to FG 600 and retire his jersey.

j/k :)

It’s time, Vinny.  In fact, it’s past time.  You’ve had one of the best careers of anybody who ever used their leg and foot to play football.  But that time comes for everybody eventually — and it came for you a couple years ago.  Moving on to something may or may not be best for you, but it’s clearly best for your team.

This should not be a tough decision for the front office.  You have a superior kicker on the roster.

We could be in just as many 1-score games, no one knows.   Pick the better kicker.    We've already did him a solid by keeping him this long.

Not knowing the true nature of the medical aspects of last year, I simply don't have enough info to have an opinion either way. I'll trust the FO on this one however it shakes out. My gut says he's done though. That along with a dollar might get you a soda or coffee in some places.

I only know as much as you.    But with Chase sitting there and AV being 47 years old, the choice seems pretty easy.

I agree. Also, fixed the text a bit, to match what my dad always said.

I remember the old saying (before my time)

Shave and a haircut, 6 bits. (which was 6 quarters)

Then at the start of my time...

Shave and a haircut, 6 bucks.

Today it's more like...

Shave and a haircut, 60 bucks

Some of the barbershops around here will "give" you a beer with that shave and haircut for 60 bucks!

That's where my bet would be too. Wish we knew more about the injury...

Not sure there are 50 cent sodas these days.

If there is a way to keep AV  long enough to get the record that would be pretty cool. Then have him retire and Chase take over after that. That may be a dream scenario but I would to like to see it.

Let's do it! Even if it costs us a couple games, who cares.

    • Richardson  accuracy  on deep balls is his strength.  Hence why you pair an elite deep threat in worthy.
    • No.   You weren’t.   If you were the least bit sincere, we’d be having these conversations in private.  But you’ve repeatedly ignored my efforts to do that.  Your call.      Then you avoid me until I’m in an uncomfortable conversation with another poster.   You use that awkward moment as an excuse for you to come in with some sincere friendly advice.   The problem is, you’re neither sincere, nor friendly.  And you’ve been doing this for months now.  This is not new.   The pattern is clear and obvious.     And the shame of it all is that even with our different views on Ballard we have enough in common that we should be friendly.  Maybe not friends, but friendly.  You wouldn’t need to address me as “Sir.”    “Good deed going unpunished”.  You flatter yourself.     But your actions speak much louder than your words.   There’s no reason for me to trust you.  And here we are.  A real shame.
    • In a year when the Colts were in serious need of a QB and in position to draft one, Ballard came up in front of the media 3 days before the draft and straight up said something to the effect of "That guy everybody in media is talking about(Levis), we are not taking him". I don't know why you think the Colts are trying to throw us off the scent this year specifically. They are not trying to give us away the pick(thus the vagueness), but I also don't really think they are trying to mislead anybody. This usually becomes specifically apparent in retrospect after the draft when you look back at a lot of those quotes in the videos they release pre-draft... and they were talking precisely about players we ended up drafting, which they reveal in the post-draft video by extending some of those quotes(they did that with AR last year for example).    And about why people are doing it(guessing who they are talking about) - because it is fun. Nobody has the illusion that we will be right in our guesses 100% of the time... or anywhere close really... but it's still fun. And it's part of why the Colts release those videos with those quotes - to create engagement with the fanbase... part of which, and the entirety of which that 70 pages thread and whole board is about in the offseason. is to guess who the Colts might take and how they might feel about specific prospects.
    • Sir, I was just trying to help you out. No good deed goes unpunished!
