New NFL draft situation: Winners and Losers (please add to it)

Recommended Posts

Because of the NFL announcement the draft moves forward as scheduled, there are  a few new NFL draft situation winners - losers

Winners-

Senior Bowl players especially lower round players now

College coaches and agents that view/use this-

NFL GM's that add this to their 'video library' if they have not already.

Losers-

Red flag players
Can't do extensive interviews with player and all those familiar with him to evaluate risk.

Lower round selections with no credible (done at combine or the team) medical data availabe.
IE: Seahawks take Garrett Scott at pick 199 in 6th round with limited medical data.  Release him day after he signed after full team evaluation showed rare heart issue that ended his career before it began. lost their 6th.

NFL Teams that publicly criticize the fact the draft stays on course, they may face disciplinary action by the NFL.

IMHO at this point teams should be more than prepared for the draft. Lack of pro days will likely hurt some prospects but I think between the Senior bowl, the Combine and all of 2019 college film there is more than enough tape to show off a prospect. All of the phone and facetime interviews plus any prospects can still do their own work outs and send the tape to the GM's if they request it. I have never heard of a prospect improving their draft position due to their own pro days but plenty who have hurt themselves.

This whole thing has exposed the teams who are actually putting the work in scouting. The tape don’t lie. And interviews shouldn’t matter if you’ve been doing your research. You should already have spoken to coaches, former teammates, etc...about a player.

And to add to your topic another loser from this are the prospects who didn’t get any offseason work in. Combine, Senior bowl, or pro day. Grant Delpit is a big one. He needed to do something to change his narrative but won’t get the chance to.

Briefly, yes. Typically teams get the other scouting hay in the barn first before thoroughly investigating red flag guys. Now is typically in depth red flag guy day(s), but those are now washed out. Red flag guys now fall on many boards. Not on others at their peril.

Players that need a true pro day can follow Jim Nagy's video series of taping a meaningful NFL caliber Pro Day beginning here-

I think (most of) those guys that failed medicals before the combine and can't get the positive medical 'rechecks' they planned on normally achieved around this time are at a disadvantage too.

It could make red flag players drop.  Teams who have former scouts as GM are going to shine. Good teams will find ways to get what they need.  TUA will be one to watch.

I agree with most of this (most red flag guys, medical but especially character). For Tua, he's so at the top of the list that teams will find any way possible to get up to date and accurate info on him.
