What people aren't talking about that I think should be mentioned more is that Day and our new prize defender Deforest Buckner played (and even started some) side-by-side last year with SF. These two

Im sure the front office is worried about you're overreacting opinion

Buckner's missed 1 game in his career.  He just turned 26 last week.  He's coming off a two consecutive years where he played very well (a probowl one year, 2nd team all-pro the other).  The 3T IDL sp

49ers' Sheldon Day: Finishes year as starter

by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Day had 15 tackles (10 solo) and a sack in 16 games this season.

Day began the year as a backup,

but he took over as a starting defensive tackle next to DeForest Buckner after D.J. Jones (ankle) was shut down following Week 11.

The near-300 pound tackle shined against the run, but he was also able to generate some pass-rush pressure despite his larger size.

Day will be an unrestricted free agent this upcoming offseason, but he should land somewhere (if San Francisco doesn't re-sign him) following a solid showing in 2019.

This better be for $2-$3 million. I'm going to be upset if we got rid of Desir for him and we aren't getting Clowney.

I doubt it's more than 3M. He's situational. Only played about 1/3 of snaps last year in most games. Good guy to compete and rotate with Stewart. Good kid too.

I wonder if this means we have moved on from Clowney and will now turn our attention to other needs.

Day is a 1T. Doubt this would have anything to do with Clowney. We needed a reasonable 1T guy for depth/rotation, so this shouldn't surprise anyone.

Highly doubt we get him. I hope I’m wrong, but don’t see clowney coming here. Also my opinion is Ballard made a terrible decision in getting rid of desir.

Yep, this is the second Grover Stewart/Al woods type we were often lacking last season....

Good character player who is a perfect situational guy for this line.  I don't know the figures but, I'd have to say Ballard got him on the cheap with the limited PT he received last year on the 49ers

Nice depth piece to rotate in with Stewart. Low risk, but good add.

Thanks all. You folks get it.

I honestly think we could've gotten by without adding, but had injury hit Stewart, we would have been screwed. It's a double bonus for me picking up a kid from ND. Hometown too so a triple bonus.

This is a pure depth and rotation move he couldn't have signed for more than 1.5-2.5 mill. We still have room to go after Clowney or Logan Ryan

Clowney wants way more than he is worth.   The fact here hasn't signed yet is proof of that

I was thinking more along the lines that he could be the first of a number of depth players that could be added instead of Clowney.  CB, WR, OL,  maybe bring Sheard back.  Hope he still gets Clowney though.

Clowney will have to come down. He isn’t getting the 20 mil he wants. Guarantee when he does sign with whomever, it’ll be a 16-18 mil deal.

These two already know each other's games, and that should really help them both with consistency and comfort on defense! Great add!!

Agree, and nice new avatar!

According to an article on Stampede Blue he turned down an off of 17M from the Dolphins.  I would guess that if that offer came from a contending team he would take it along with some incentives of course.  I wonder if he would take that offer from the Colts.

I think you’re right. Miami has added some pieces and probably getting Tua will help. But don’t think they are anywhere near being a contender at this point in time. We’ll see how the AFC East looks with Brady being gone.

I believe a month or two ago, Clowney said he wanted to play for a contender. So that actually might be why he rejected the Dolphins offer, rather than the money.

Yup, but I just don't think this will impact any major decisions. Should be a low dollar transaction. I'm sure we'll see more deals like this. Not sure how realistic JC is to be honest. Given next year's paydays for guys coming off rookie contracts, re-ups on FAs, new FAs, etc., I just don't see JC unless they are going all in this year in a win-now mode. Sure would be interesting if it happened.

    • I see what you are saying.  If the Packers could get the 15th pick in the draft the packers would be crazy not to do it.    The Pats would be crazy to give up the 15th pick in the draft for Love.
    • Honestly this might be my last draft because it fell pretty perfect, unless sometime of pre-draft trade happens. I also only went to 165 because I really don't know players after that.   Big priority for me was to trade down and I wanted to gain capital for next year for two reasons: 1. This draft has the least information in awhile about players 2. We are gonna lose a 1st or 2nd rounder next year and I wanted to supplement it by adding another 2nd round pick. I have seen many different ways to value future picks when doing the value, going off the CBS method of valuing them at the 32 pick of that round Bengals get 222 points (They drafted Kwity Paye after getting Sewell earlier) and Colts get 215 points.   So now to the picks: 38(From Bengals): Samuel Cosmi T: Happy with the pick was hoping he or Teven Jenkins would fall to me and I got one of them making the trade worth it to me. 54: Carlos Basham Jr.: Wasn't expecting him to fall to me, honestly I was more hoping for Payton Turner, but when I saw him sitting there it was a easy pick for me, fills the need at RE and the role of Autry of a DE that can play outside on early downs then jump inside for 3rd/passing downs. 127: Amari Rodgers: Honestly this was a tough pick, it was against him or Shaka Toney and I could of gone with either but I thought it might of been to early for Toney so decided to risk it and see if he fell to the next round. 165: James Wiggins: I wanted to add depth to the Safety position and Wiggins is a versatile player that fits in a split zone system, he has some injury history but Ballard has shown he is willing to take a risk on a Safety with past injury history (Blackmon, Hooker)   Also add in an extra 2nd in 2022   Overall I'm happy with it
    • Sam Cosmi reminds me of the conversation people were having about Kolton Miller a few years ago. Super toolsy but also raw. He may not be a top 20 lock like some have suggested. He can very well be a 1st round pick, but like Miller it will take a team falling in love with the upside.
    • That's the thing... why would an insane athlete with tons of starts in top program in college even be there at 21 for us to take if he was such a no brainer pick and had no warts?! At that spot you are juggling and weighing different sets of positives and negatives for each prospect and in some cases the negatives are almost as strong as the positives. I like Cosmi and I would be happy if we picked him to be our LT of the future, but we should be doing it with the expectation and knowledge that he has a ton of work to do to get to a point where he will be even solid starter, let alone a great one. For example... I am not a huge fan of Sam Tevi or Davenport... but I would not be shocked if one of them beat him for the starting spot year 1(if he was our pick)
    • Are we really debating whether Maniac deserves to be the top paid LB or not? Lol. He's not borderline top 3 like I saw someone say, he's the best linebacker in football. C'mon now...
