Biggest FA need for Colts

Recommended Posts

In my opinion, CB is the biggest Free Agency need currently standing for our Colts. They currently have so much youth at that position with Rock, Moore, and Tell. They could really use a guy like Xavier Rhodes or Logan Ryan to provide some veteran leadership and dependability there.

Would still like Ballard to try and get another few cheaper guys to help out this roster as well. Someone like DT Shelby Harris from Denver would be nice to pair with Buckner. Possibly even Everson Griffin to replace Sheard.

The Desir release is still a puzzler to me. There HAS to be another move coming. Could be Clowney though honestly, I don't think he's worth anything close to his asking price.

But the Desir release does open the door for a player like Rhodes, who just two years ago was playing all pro level ball. No idea what has happened to this guy the last two years but that kind of signing makes sense to me on a prove it deal.

So we need $6M for draft picks. $10M to manage player needs during the season due to injury. A Standard numner BTW.

So please tell us how we add a few more cheap adds to fill the depth and then sign some of these guys you suggest. TY taking a big paycut would help some. He is not a $14M WR anymore.

Currently have $29m in cap space:

-$6m - draft picks

$23m

We'll go with $8m for in season spending.

Spending space:$15m

Potential cap casualties/trades:

Brissett -$8.875m

Autry - $5.7m

Muhammad - $2.1m

Wilson - $1.3m

Thats an additional $18m in potential space

$33m

I only imagine all those guys getting released if we are bringing in Clowney.($18m?)

Then need a vet CB Rhodes would be nice. Maybe 1yr $4m deal?

Bring us down to $11m Spending space with draft picks and in season cap figured in.

Maybe:

Eric Berry $1yr $4m deal

Demarcus Robinson 1yr $3m deal

Mike Person 1yr $1.5m deal

Lamar Miller 1yr $2.5m deal

That would wrap up all our spending cash.

We really dont need to carry any money over as of right now we have $124m cap space, after draft we will be down to about $115m minus any other potential multi year deals. Doubt any of those unless it's Clowney. Still would be around $100m with Clowney under contract.

CB is an insanely overrated position in the league, 99% dependent on pass rush and safety help. Good DTs, DEs, safeties make good corners, not the other way around...just like good OLs make good RBs.

Add that to extremely short career spans, if I was building a team, would never take a CB or RB before round 3.

No need to acquire a FA CB imo especially when we have an early second round draft pick and should have our choice of Jeff Gladney, AJ Terrell, or Noah Igbinoghene who also adds a dimension as a return specialist.

The Colts played a lot of Man last year and would benefit from adding another player that excels in Man coverage so am hoping Gladney is available.  All three players mentioned played Desir's spot so again no surprise if we target one of them with our first pick.

If Robby Anderson is worth 10 Million & Funchess was worth 13 million last year, Hilton is worth 14 million during the last year of his contract.

It's the moment everyone has been waiting for! Indianapolis is on the clock, and they are not trading this pick! A player is to be selected!

A small, blue and white envelope is passed up through the cheering fans, containing the name of the player to be selected by the Colts, and no, it won't be announced by an ape this time!

With the 40th pick in the 2020 Colts Forum Gavin Mock Draft, the Indianapolis Colts select:

Jeff Gladney, CB, TCU

The top prospect remaining on my board, Gladney fills the hole created by the departure of Pierre Desir. An elite cornerback, Gladney is a great fit in the current defensive scheme, where he can use his superb instincts and athleticism, along with great ball skills, to make plays on the ball and force turnovers. A super-aggressive cover-man, Gladney plays much bigger than his measurements and has the potential to be one of the best, if not the best, cornerback from this class.

What say you, Colts Nation??? Do you like this pick, or would you rather I have gone in a different direction!! Cheers!

If I'm not mistaken, @coltsfanej should be on the clock with the Cleveland Browns!

With the Colt's recent signing Rhodes to fill the void at CB with Desir gone could see the Colts reach for Edge Jabari Zuniga from Florida.  Last year personally thought we reached for Banogu in R2 so after Zuniga aced the Combine finishing T6 in all combine drills performed by DL he greatly improves his draft stock.

Banogu struggled as expected in his rookie season and with Houston up for contract renewal next season it wouldn't surprise me to see us select Zuniga who played in a 5T role with the Gators as a strong-side DE in Florida's 4-3 base defense but also played inside during sub-packages providing interior pass rush.
