Colts Should Highly Consider Signing Jadeveon Clowney on a Short-Term Deal

IDK. I have a feeling Speed will bump one of them. Franklin played 0 snaps on D, and I just don't know if they're going to keep someone on the 53 they know is purely a STs guy (and not a returner), on top of a 3rd SAM (a position we don't use a lot anyway). We're going to be adding draft picks to the roster, and just not sure he'll survive.

Their 7th round picks. Not exactly saving much.

If he signs for around 15 mil per season, I wouldn't mind the Colts showing interest for a 1-2 year deal. Could make this DL ferocious.

I’d be close to seeing if he would take a 2 yr deal. 30 million, 17 guaranteed. I don’t want another 1 year deal unless they are fringe player. JC is certainly not a fringe guy, he has super talent. He does bring baggage and for the money, I’m not sure I’d want committed to him longer term. He has too many games missed in his career so far.

Ballard just bought Juice for 25M and Buck for 24M

Obviously, however, those two players didn't turn down big money elsewhere, and wait.

My comment was in regard to "The locker room". Ballard paid dedicated, hard working players and fit them into the locker room. Paying Clown because he is waiting for more money, is quite a different add to the locker room.

Not really.  It's called negotiation.  All of the FA players Ballard added were added through negotiation.  No different for Clowney no matter where he signs.  His contract will be larger that's all.   Criticizing him for trying to get the best contract he can holds no water really.

Right. I don't think Ballard just offered Buckner a massive 4/$84M out of the blue and that was that.

Sort of a double standard...lauding Ballard for staying firm on his valuations and negotiations...but when a player does it...it's a potential issue.

I disagree. Ballard just commented that the locker room was to a point they could add a big name. That could be interpreted in several ways, but I assume he is talking about a player like Clowney, not really guys like Rivers and Buckner.

I'm middle ground when it comes to Clown. I'm not breaking the bank long term on him, but I'd absolutely give him a 2 year 30M deal.

    • Looking at OTC now.  Seems like we may have around 10-12M cap space left to go after players in FA.  Do the Colts sign I player or break it down to a few small signings.  Still seeing who is available and limited on time.  Still am high on WR Quez Watkins and seeing the Dolphins are also interested in him.  Watkins played under Shane and figured he would be one of his targets in FA.     Both SS, assuming Cross is the starter, but FS is main focus and probably in the draft.   Not sold one too many true FS from college and sure you seen prior post about how slow these CBs are and a move to FS probably best for their career in the NFL.  Especially Khyree Jackson who has a lot of the overall skill set of Cooper DeJean and might be a viable option later in the draft.
    • I’d like Crossby!   I really like Mitchell, but I just don’t see more youth being a good thing for our CB room. Even if the Sneed thing is made up I still think we should go for a vet.    I hope we can get Cooper in the 2nd. I’d prefer a WR (or Bowers) at 15, but right now I think we’re looking at DE.    Powers-Johnson looks greats, but of all the things we could do I think OL is probably the least likely at 15.    Lots of needs. Safety is probably the biggest, but I don’t think any of them are worth the 15th overall.
    • @Solid84   Still holding out hope we trade our R1P15 to LV for Maxx Crosby give them draft capital to move up for their QB.    If we sit at P15, draft CB Quinyon Mitchell.  Latest report seen was the Colts haven't even talked trade for Sneed.  False news, who knows, time will tell?    If Mitchell is gone before P15 then see a trade back and draft WLB Edgerrin Cooper or OL Jackson Powers-Johnson.
    • I like it overall, but I don't think there's a snowballs chance in hell we're drafting Kinchens after his atrocious Combine. With a RAS of 2.27 he's not even a blip on Ballard's radar lol.
    • Sorry late to the party line chat on Page 57 of 94   Skyy Moore, deleted that draft class and notes but Moore seemed to have some potential but wasn't sold on him.  Viewed Moore as an average receiver not much more.  I wouldn't trade for him.   If you were looking to trade for any WR, I would suggest targeting the Packer's Dontayvion Wicks.    As for some of these other comments that I have read up and not going to ready through 30 pages.  Colts spent 200M on most of their own (top NFL) players,    Recent news I saw is that the Colts haven't had any communication talks about trading for Sneed.  How true that is or not to be seen.  Seems the Colts have done a lot spending 200M on their own and doubt we have much cap space left to sign a big-name player like Sneed.  Still haven't seen latest cap space figures since our latest signing.     The Colts build through the draft and those expectations will not change this season.  Again, our organization was lucky enough to sign some of our best positional players.  Sadly, not everyone can get resigned and do expect Blackmon to move on.  Latest rumor is Blackmon signs with the Bills.
