Colts Should Highly Consider Signing Jadeveon Clowney on a Short-Term Deal

Man. This line can be scary good.

Sheard isnt here anymore. Banogu and Turay would be the reserve ends

I would be surprised if Autry is in the mix. He does play the same spot as Buckner? I'd imagined Lewis gets another year to back him up at tackle.

Oh yeah. You’re right.

I think this whole virus thing is slowing all negotiations down.  I wouldn't be too surprised if this goes on for a while.

Have the Colts announced that they aren’t going to resign him?

No. Free Agent looking for a team. I wont be surprised to see him back if we get in a pinch though.

I'd like to see Sheard back but if there is any truth to the Clowney rumors, someone has to go and Sheard would be the most likely IMO.....simply because of the $. He's still a quality player.

So according to this article he reportedly turned down an annual deal of 17M from the Dolphins.  Why?  My guess is he wants to play for a contender and that's important for him right now.  Still holding out for the money and the right team.  I think his best chance at both is with the Colts.  I hope he thinks so too.  I can't believe we are that far apart.

Clowney is apparently holding out on Titans deal hoping they bring back Logan Ryan?

Can they afford both?

To me that reads that the Titans want to bring back Ryan if they can’t sign Clowney. Not that Clowney wants them to sign Ryan before he will sign. Am I reading it wrong?

I have to admit I was wrong about the Colts being involved.

Personally I think he is holding out for money, not necessarily the right team.

It's not my money so I don't care how much it costs.  Sign the guy let win the SB!

I never care how much we pay for players.  The Colts pay people to figure it out that are way smarter than me.

Shelby Harris re-signs for 2.5 million with Broncos.

That’s a joke, for 49 tackles, 6 sacks last season. Would have been worth 4-5 million easily, even if it’s a contract year phenom.

I agree ... people are aligning their cap and spending the FA money

Time to move on.....

I wouldn’t want a 1 year Clowney deal (my spell check keeps changing this to Clooney ... :()

He better hurry up.  Teams with cap are still spending but it won't last forever.  Every day that goes by is working against him.  His agent should know that.

Just saw on NFL live today that Clowney has dropped his asking price to 17-18M from 20M.  Titans have been in touch with his agent to monitor the development.

He's going to have a hard time getting that much too.

If he signs for around 15 mil per season, I wouldn't mind the Colts showing interest for a 1-2 year deal. Could make this DL ferocious.

My guess is that the offers he already received were in the 15m range.  This is his attempt to nudge them higher.  I wouldn't be surprised if he signs by the weekend now.

That's about what he's worth, IMO.

Above is a link... the longer he waits, the less he'll get.

I think that has finally set in.  I think he's ready to sign.  A team just needs to increase their offer.  Ballard usually draws his line in the sand so if he did it would surprise me.  But he's trying to win now so you never know.

Not sure what our current cap is after signing Rhodes, Day, and Carrie, however we could release Autry if needed to create cap space. It would save us 5 mil

He’s lowered his asking price. So, I think we should pull the trigger. Would make this D line incredibly stupid good.

If there was ever a time to acquire such a versatile, pro-bowl level talent, on the d-line without investing any draft capital this is the moment.  He will probably be resigned to accepting a deal in the 17.5 per year range but will ultimately settle on the most guaranteed salary.  4/70m 38 guaranteed should suffice.

without Carrie and Rhodes

Total Cap Liabilities: $224,463,862

Top 51: $202,326,535

Team Cap Space: $26,823,488

Offense: $133,992,516

Defense: $76,197,663

Special: $3,525,000

Carrie IIRC signed for league vet min (0.91M)

Rhodes IIRC 5M

So now should have around 20.8M

Yea we'd have to release Autry if we're even interested. Maybe even move Wilson for a 6th or 7th to free up another 1.5 mil

Ballard : You can't buy a locker room

Colt fans : Bring in a guy who turns down 17M/year.

Potential cuts and savings per OTC

Autry 5.7

JB 8.9

Muhammad 2.1

Wilson 1.3

Lewis 0.6

We'll probably drop either Franklin or Adams with Oke taking over SAM, so that .7M

I doubt Adams and Franklin. Their our best STs. Muhammad makes sense

IDK. I have a feeling Speed will bump one of them. Franklin played 0 snaps on D, and I just don't know if they're going to keep someone on the 53 they know is purely a STs guy (and not a returner), on top of a 3rd SAM (a position we don't use a lot anyway). We're going to be adding draft picks to the roster, and just not sure he'll survive.
