Don't you think Ballard has figured that all out?  That is his job.  I think he has a plan.

Yes I think he has it covered.

He shot Clowney a number. It's in Clowneys yard now.

IMO it would be nice to sign Clowney but will it cost too much. I highly doubt I am the only one who had that thought. I agree it might be time to swing for the fence, who knows?

I think it takes another week or two of limited contact before Clowney realizes his value is far lower than he thinks. I’m not sure if teams leave it alone but Ballard could sit and wait with a 15mil/year offer. Maybe just a 1 or 2 year deal when it’s all done. I think this is what teams are looking at for him.

He’s been overrated since he was drafted really.

Dont care what you say, no one does a game plan and says "We aint worried about Clowney". No matter how over rated one thinks he is

If the Colts didn't have anyone else on the DLine to account for I could see them passing on him. But now they have TWO players that have to be accounted for. This would free things up for Clowney to have many one on ones.

Well, he IS overrated based on his draft hype, but that doesn't mean he's totally ineffective.

He DOES need to be accounted for, but it seems teams manage to handle it for the most part.

It is also true that, due to our present talent, it could free him up to be more effective, and in turn allows them all to be more effective.

I do have to say, thought, that it appears the most effective game plan against Clowney is a hard count on 3rd and 5 or less. He's seemingly quite the sucker for it.

I hate when he jumps offsides. Yes!

If the deal is reasonable, in terms of money or us getting rid of him after a bad year I'm all on board. Houston, Buckner and Clowney on the dline would have me SUPER EXCITED.

Would benefit Okereke and Leonard as well, not to mention the back end.

I understand why people don't like Clowney, he hasn't lived up to the massive expectations he came into the league with. Same as Luck, kinda. But make no mistake, Clowney is a really really solid player, probably the best edge player against the run and he does disrupt a lot. I say we give this a chance while we have the cap.

Not sure how legit it is, but he does have 2000 followers

The Seahawks and Giants are both really up against the cap.  So this is getting interesting.  I also read a report where the Seahawks were also taking a look at Griffin as a fall back.   It certainly looks like the Colts are not making any more moves until they know here he signs.  JMO.

Exactly...would love to have him at DE.

To prove your point...here is a quote from our own Frank Reich before the IND/HOU WC game:

"Some teams have a philosophy of stop the run on your way to rushing the quarterback: penetrate, penetrate, penetrate, and then stop the run through causing disruption," Colts coach Frank Reich said. "Players like Clowney can do that. He's very disruptive.

"He's a playmaker and can do it from outside, can do it from inside and you have to account for him no matter where he lines up."

Just saw a blurb on NFL Network with Ian Rapoport. He was saying Clowney won't mind waiting until the right deal. Sounds like this could go on a little bit.

The flip side is the teams he's talking to might lose patience and move on.  Reportedly the Titans have dropped out.  He might not get the deal he wants but he should get a nice deal regardless.  It appears there are only a few teams that want him who can afford to pay him a good contract.  If I were him I would make a decision sooner rather than later before those teams make a decision he won't like.

I hope it happens as well. I prefer him over Everson Griffin due to age, premium size and length, as well as him being very good against the run. We need somebody who can play the run as well as rush the passer. Our division is full of teams that like to run. Some of the top rushing teams in the league.

What about that markus guy from the giants? Believe  he had over 10 sacks.

If the rumors on this link are true, I’d be tempted to put a timeline on my offer

Here is the best $ we can offer......

If we aren’t the fit today....... we aren’t the fit tomorrow

by the end of the week...... let us know....

Dial Marcus Golden......

For me the end of the week is very generous.  This has been going on for quite some time now.  I would give him until 6PM today or we are done.  Time to settle this once and for all.

To be fair...it's only been 6 days since the start of FA. Last year, Houston signed on the 8th day of FA.
