McAfee and Jordan Palmer on Love

Recommended Posts

Could be and I could totally buy what Palmer is saying.  Problem is we don't know.  And that would be a lot of what-ifs for me to trade UP for a guy like that.  At 13 I don't "love" it, but I could see it.  Round 2 I would be ecstatic, maybe even trading back into the latter part of Round 1.  But most don't believe he'll be there so.......

Even a healthy Tua? Absolutely over Herbert though. I've never really been impressed with Herbert, and am generally not a fan of Pac-12 QB's.

If tua had never been injured in his career at all I'd consider him over love. Tua also worked with NFL caliber talent his entire career at Alabama. Loves best player was a graduate transfer from Utah that wasn't even that good. At current state I'd take Love of Tua

I agree tua scares me. If we take him we better  make the oline  even better  and keep him clean

Lot of y’all seriously drinking the Love kool aid up in here.  I’m not buying his build up.  Give me Herbert in the first ( if there) or Eason in the second over Love.

I have a difficult time imagining the Colts taking Eason anywhere.

The more I hear about him, the more I doubt we'd be interested.

Love will go before Herbert and I'm not saying that because he's better. I'm saying that because teams are gonna fall in love with his arm and believe the excuses Palmer just made and think they can fix his shortcomings like reading defenses and trusting his arm over his feet.

My biggest fear is Chargers take Love over Herbert. I honestly believe though whoever Chargers don't choose will be the Colts pick.

I hope so. Let the hype cause another team to be suckered into drafting him before us. Hopefully the Colts don’t make the mistake of actually trading up to draft him any way. That would be worse case scenario if he turns out to be a bust.

Anybody in the Draft could turn out to be a bust.

I cannot wait to watch Love tear up the league whether it's with the colts or not just to prove all these haters wrong

If he tears up the league then I will gladly take him on the Colts.

I hate the excuse that he played with no NFL draftable players.  Who do u think he was throwing against....Deion Sanders and Charles Woodson!?!?!  Just dumb.

They say that because lots of times the players around you if good too can inflate your stats.

I like Tua but I guarantee having Jerry Jeudy and Henry Ruggs III (2 top 20) WRs helps his cause immediately.

I can't name another superstar on the Utah State team honestly.

I still dont get it.  If Love is all that, he should b able to beat average talent with average talent.  Just saying.

There's no doubt he needs some work. Coming here and sitting a year and learning behind hopefully Rivers or Brady will certainly help.

I think Reich can immensely help him but I'm afraid a team like the Chargers will draft him and throw him to the wolves with no room to grow.

I think Gary Anderson had a bit to do with it he used to be the head coach at my alma mater and he runs the most predictable offense I’ve ever watched, you could literally call the plays from the stands just imagine how well a defensive coordinator could game plan against him. Dude won only 7 games in 3 years and only 3 conference wins.

add on: not to take away from his bad year, I just know from 3 frustrating years of that guy, that I’m surprised he’s still allowed to be a head coach

Not even you could deny his ceiling.  Knowing that to be a possibility, why wouldn't people like him?

Eason is more of a risk because he lacks it between the ears, IMO.  Doesn't help that there have been questions about his commitment to the game (which have gained weight after his combine interview reports).  We already lost Luck who apparently lost his love for the game, we don't need another QB who has this red flag already out there.  No thanks, I'll take Love or Herbert.

Do you think whenever T.Y hilton is out there the colts have a better chance to win a game then without him?

He didn’t have average talent.   That’s the point.   He had young, inexperienced below average talent.

And a new coaching staff as well.   And clearly this staff left much to be desired.

He has a ceiling but I’m not seeing the same one that some others are.  I mean I’ve read some compare him to Mahomes which is just ridiculous in my opinion. Love has what you call traits and teams often draft high for certain traits, like arm strength, etc. thinking they can develop a player.  He also has lots of negative traits...i.e. throwing a lot off his back foot, penchant for throwing picks, less accuracy on short to intermediary throws, etc. I don’t think he is a player who can elevate others around him.  He needs decent talent around him to elevate himself.

Herbert is my first choice of the QB’s the Colts have a chance at.  I like Eason better than Love for the Colts.  He doesn’t turn the ball over as much and seems more confident on the field in my opinion.  I think under the right coaching he could thrive.  Watching Love play makes me nervous.

The Mahomes comps are really not ridiculous though.  They have similar strengths and weaknesses.  Both gunslingers.  Similar projections into the NFL (anywhere from 1st-3rd round projections and going to need to sit a year).  Both good in the pocket and can stil make plays out of the pocket.  Don't get hung up in thinking I mean that because Mahomes turned out the way he did that Love will also.  That is as much on the player to work on his craft as it is the coaches to develop him into the best QB that he can be.

All I think anyone is saying - or at least what I am saying abotu the Mahomes comp - is that coming out of college, they were viewed very similarly and their physical profiles were also very similar.  We don't have to agree.  I definitely agree that Hertbert is in the top 4 QBs, though.

Yea and  I am sure u probably cant name a defensive super star he played against.  It goes both ways.  He played in a weak conference.  Josh Allan played in a weak conference.  People said he would improve with coaching and more talent. He still can't hit the broad side of a barn.  Yes i am bring silly but i think u get my point.

If true, that's a really bad recipe.  I have not followed the QB discussion lately, but if Love's strengths are his arm talent and his feet and his weakness is reading defenses (decision making?) that almost has a RGIII feel to it.

Some what.  At least RG3 could run like the wind.  Love is not in the same zip code as RG3 when it comes to speed

    • The Colts have had their fair share of injuries the past few seasons.   Many of these players were either expected to have good/great years, or contribute much more than they did, because of their season being cut short. If there was a single player on the roster right now, whom has had injuries in the past 3 seasons, that you could put imaginary 'bubble wrap' around to guarantee they don't get injured this season, who would it be?   Mine = Kemoko Turay. There are many players i'd want to have a healthy season, Hilton/Campbell/Hooker/ect. But to me, I truly believe if Turay had not had that season ending injury last year, he could have seriously broken out. I am praying for a healthy season for him, because having him on all the passing downs for the season with the rest of the talent we have on the front 7, I think he could have a massive season. He was leading the NFL last season in QB pressures per snap, before he was hurt. Not to mention that he was held so many times, and it was not called.  I mean blatant holding.  Because he is a real issue for O-linemen.  Just so fast, with great bend, and his hand/arm work is stellar since he's been working with Mathis. A full healthy season, I could easily see him getting 10+ sacks.
    • they cant just go from waiver claim to practice squad on another team, he would have to be on their roster a while before they can do that.
    • It will be interesting to see how Watson does without Hopkins. If they won the division again that would show me a lot. Losing Hopkins is a huge blow.
    • That's fair. Watson is mostly due to age, but I think he's finally good enough to lead them to the playoffs. However, they will decline soon with some contracts running out. I see Luck as 32 in football years because I believe he'd be rusty for a year. Just a guess though. I would take Watson too because I feel he's non injury-prone, and that's good for a long-term answer at QB. I would take Luck back in a heartbeat though as long as we didn't have to pay him anything if he retired again.
