We may not take one at all. We might sign a Free Agent like Rivers or trade for Carr, who knows?

Totally get that. This is just based on the fact that we do draft a QB.

My personal hope...

Take Kinlaw at 13. Trade 34+44 for 16ish, and take Love.

If they sign rivers they are most likely still drafting a QB.

I'm still not sold on anyone not named Burrow, Tua or Herbert as a first rounder.  I'm sure I will probably be forced to eat those words.  I'd rather spend a 3rd or 4th on Gordon IF he lasts that long.

But as far as your deal, that is something that COULD happen.  It could be something Miami would be interested in at 18 IF TB doesn't take Love at 14.  That would give them an extra pick in the first 44.  Interesting!

Gotta think CB will do his homework and figure out who's going where. Gonna be interesting.

Maybe but if we sign Rivers to a 2 yr deal, Colts may wait and draft a QB next year and just have him sit 1 year and learn until Rivers retires.

IMO we either trade up to get someone, or we won't take a QB at all.

What if Love drops to 13. Do you think we will pass on him? You actually think we could not take a QB at all?

IMO if Ballard likes him enough to get him at 13 he will like him enough to jump in front of the Raiders.

Also, the QBs past R2 are huge wild shots. If he takes one, I wouldn't expect much of him and I definitely wouldn't consider him our next QB. I would consider it a lottery ticket.

So the only way that Ballard proves he likes a QB is by trading up or making a bold move?  If he doesn’t trade up they he won’t even take a QB.

7 of the last 10 QBs taken in the top 10 have been traded up for. 2 of the last 10 QBs taken in the top 10 have been no.1 picks(their team didn't have to trade up to get them). Teams trade up for QBs. If they love a QB, they make sure they get the guy they like. They don't horse around and take unnecessary risks that another team will take their guy before them or another team will jump them. QB is NOT like the other positions in football no matter how much people around here want to treat it just like another position.

BPA is thrown out the window when your team needs a QB and is in search of a QB, simply because the positional value is so much higher than any other position. The best DL in the history of football gives you about the same value as an average QB in the league. This is the discrepancy in value. If Kinlaw turns into Fletcher Cox/Chris Jones/Geno Atkins level player he will still be less valuable than the Andy Daltons of the world.

On your question - no, Ballard might like a QB but might not be able to trade up to get him. He also might just stay put and get him, but IMO it's more likely that he jumps in the draft to get his guy than wait for him to fall.

If Love is his pick. Ballard has fooled a lot of people on who he drafts and where he drafts. I’m thinking if Love is available at 13 and his intel tells him Love is safe for another 10 picks or so then he will choose BPA at 13 and move up with his 2nd pick or something similar.  I don’t think he ever abandons his method. Especially since Love is being slated as a late round 1st pick anyway by most gurus. Now if his intel tells him the Pats are moving up then I expect him to make a move as well. IOW, I expect him to follow his philosophy lest he look back and see how he lost big time value just because he panicked.

Panic?  Chris Ballard?  Umm, no.

ballard will take the best player available with every pick and none of them will be a qb in this years below average qb class

Decent chance we take a QB in the 2nd round in my opinion but I wouldn't be surprised if we don't and roll with Brissett and a FA QB pickup.

    • I think the 3 in a row was in response to what would define the greatest team in the salary cap era.   He did say he wanted a team with multiple SB wins when Luck was drafted, and some felt like he was throwing shade at Peyton, maybe yes, maybe not. There were instances I defended Peyton where it felt like he had little margin for error in playoff games and then instances where I felt he missed some reads and got "happy playoff feet Peyton" in key moments leading to "playoff Peyton" jokes. It was a mixed bag with him but the ultimate stat to me was Peyton's record vs playoff teams in the regular season hovered around .500, against playoff Ds.    So, when that record manifested itself in the playoffs, people were surprised because a lot of our 12 win seasons were padded with wins against middle of the road teams. Plus, the other ignored aspect is with a lot of teams on par at the playoff level, the differences in coaching shined a bit more come playoff time and I do not believe we had a great coaching staff on defense and special teams consistently.   Factor all of the above factors, our playoff record with Peyton was as expected. The only time we beat a #1, #2 and #3 scoring D was when we ran well, giving our undersized but speedy D a shot to play at max. efficiency and allowing us to minimize our weak special teams.
    • Pathetic division with tough schedule against NFC West and AFC North.. then Eagles and Cowboys have to play top teams of NFC North and NFC South..   WHOOOOOOOOOOOFFFFFFFFFFFF   Forget about it, this division is going to be even worse!   But remember, NFC East never had a repeat champion in a decade or so.   Close your eyes, it's not good for viewing.   Cowboys 8-8. Eagles 8-8. Giants 4-12 Redskins 1-15   21 wins, 43 losses.   Favorite spanked kids of all the NFL.   Redskins at least get the #1 overall draft pick, which they missed last draft to finally replace Haskins.
    • It doesn't matter. If you, Colts fans, Jim Irsey believe that Peyton Manning is one of the greatest to ever do it, Colts should have had more than 1 ring to show for it. Jim Irsey even said this. That's why Jimmy stated he wanted like 3 in a row (something of that sort) or Championship dynasty.   Jim Irsey: "the goal is to win three in a row." https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=https://coltswire.usatoday.com/2019/04/03/indianapolis-colts-jim-irsay-super-bowl-3-in-a-row/amp/&ved=2ahUKEwiw0pWomOHpAhVQm-AKHWscD_oQFjAMegQIAhAB&usg=AOvVaw2MyBiVLfpYEwTsiTSc_Vcx&ampcf=1&cshid=1591034273453   The NFL even changed rules favoring the offense. Can't jam beyond 5 yards, etc. I know that Peyton alone couldn't couldn't win it all, however, we are talking about Peyton freaking Manning here. Honestly, no excuse. The Miami Dolphins would've sold their stadium to get Peyton Manning with their defense and team which could only beat the Pats.
    • Right. I remember that pick 6 that ended the game.  And how we won a SB with good defense and a running game. Not Until!   We had more Regular Season MVP wins than anyone though.
    • Ummm...if not for a botched onside kick recovery, the Colts would have won 2 as well.
