Alex Smith Dolphins

LOL.... if he were to end up choosing the Titans over the 49ers that would tell me the 49ers did not want him. Obviously the 49ers are a whole lot closer to a SB, and even multiple SBs than the Titans are.

People thought the Colts under Caldwell were going to keep getting better after the SB run in 2009 after Caldwell's rookie season. What if Harbaugh and the Niners don't live up to expectations even with Peyton? That would hurt a lot. It would be SB or bust.

BTW on the Niners forum some are now hearing Smith may hold out until he hears about Manning.

I kinda have a bad feeling on SF though. I think they are going to fall short.......I think the NFC is far too competitive and you might have two new teams in the title game against next year. The same teams don't seem to go back in the NFC.

The question is did the 49ers go to Peyton because Alex wouldn't sign or did Alex go to the Dolphins because they went to Peyton

I think his agent told him that the 49ers were going to go after Manning from the get go.

I can understand all that but Peyton has the rest of his life to dedicate time to the Tenn. community/area and stay connected. He only has 4 years max to win another championship and his best chance at that is with the 9ers IMO.

But we'll see. Maybe Peyton is fine whether he wins another one or not.

Could be and he knows how tough it is to win one no matter how good your team is or you are. He may not be chasing a ring as much as some fans are and Dungy implied as much a few weeks ago. Not all teams on paper that look great win it all either.

Guess we will see. I see no reason Peyton would go to SF unless it's for SB aspirations. No reason to go there for comfort or the community.

Didn't Smith change agents now?

This whole thing is a circus lmao

I suppose he has that obligation since he's the manager of both. I hope the 49ers sat down with Alex and told him that they were doing this. Obviously, he'd hear about it one way or the other.

New rumor is that Smith is waiting to hear about SF and Manning. And when Peyton decides is anyones guess.

Maybe some leaks soon or there already are. I remember the leaks on Lebron before the decision and not many believed it truly was Miami until it came out of his own mouth.

Thinking about this from the agents POV, it might be smart to have Smith go talk to the Fish, if they knew Manning was not going to sign with the 49ers .... might get his other client Smith a bigger deal to stick around no?

Did not know that at all; noted not to do this in the future. Thanks for the heads up.

Yes, unfortunately, this is a very high possiblity and 49er land of fans is thinking the same way. According to Jason Cole that Smith won't sign with Dolhpins unless Manning signs with 49ers...wth. Take the $$$ LOL. Smith says willing toplay back up...OMG....LOL

    • Can't figure out what's so "Sweet Jesus or Dear God" about surmising that it's possible that the state of the team and it's most important position being in flux is figuring into this potential retirement. I suppose we'd have to ask him with the caveat that he'd likely not throw anyone under the bus.   Could be one, or the other or a combination of both- or things we don't know about, but it won't be for the better if this team is without AC this year.
    • If you have friends or family in Indy, slingbox is a great legal way to watch without a lot of expense (1X cost of the box). If you don't, and like tech stuff, check out Kodi and the sports addons. There are also several websites (not legal) that stream all the games.
    • Yeah I think he wants to win in general and the qb is a big factor in this   I think he will retire if he thinks it's a sub 500 team, maybe he would prefer a veteran over a rookie
    • I agree.  I think he'll come back too.    But I also think our QB situation makes every practice and every game seem more like work than fun.  If you're going to lose, have little hope of winning, that's kind of a different place than he has been with PM or Luck.  Even when they were injured, there was a light at the end of the tunnel. Every injury or pain becomes magnified when you're cause is hopeless, and he's probably not in a position for doing it all for the money.     I also wouldn't be surprised to see this drag on to where we get a better handle on the QB or roster, if Ballard allows it to drag on that far.  Frankly, I'm not sure that it didn't play a part in Luck's decision, thinking how much he would put himself at risk if he thought he had to carry the team.     Being dispassionately objective, what QB wouldn't want to go to the SB having to throw only 7 passes instead of 50?  LOL.  That current obscure leg injury seemed overblown as to its impact on his decision, but that's another topic.
    • Regarding watching preseason games outside local market..   I'm not in the local market, but I watch preseason games live via nfl.gamepass ($99 / year).  For regular season games, gamepass gives you the live local radio broadcast during the game, then you can watch the video broadcast right after the game ends.   My game day routine is to listen to the live radio broadcast (with gamepass) and follow the live game cast on either espn or nfl.com.  Then once the game is over I can watch the video broadcast of the game on gamepass (commercial breaks and halftime are removed from this feed).
