They are both equally bad ability-wise. Only difference is Trubisky is $15 million dollars cheaper, is younger, and has more potential. Trubisky is probably Chad Kelly if he were a 1st round pick and got the opportunity to play from day 1.
So they are both trash cans, but I'll take the trash can that saves me $15 million and has some potential still.
From most media accounts Fountain was the most impressive receiver in camp last year. I look forward to seeing what he can do next season. If he’s an improvement over Pascal that would help immensely and it’s a realistic goal.
If he was truly injured before last season (I think he said after he went to IR that he regretted not having his knee cleaned up in the offseason), I would really not be shocked if he did get his knee scoped/cleaned up a bit and worked his tail off, that he could be productive for another year (I would also not be shocked if he is washed up and doesn't even want to play anymore). Regardless, if he does want to continue playing, I see no problem in us bringing him in at a lower rate than he was making and giving him a fair tryout.
