It is pretty simple, it is a rotation.

2008, 2012, 2016 - we played NFC North. 2008, 2011, 2014, 2017 - we played AFC North.

You play same NFC divisions every 4 years and same AFC divisions every 3 years. Every 12 years, you play the same ones, so we play the NFC North and AFC North. Home or away, we alternate.

2008 - we played the Bears here, and 0-16 Lions here, 2012 - we played them on the road, 2016 - we played them here, 2020 - we play them on the road and same with Packers and Vikings, we played them at home here in 2012 (Chuck Strong game with Wayne going off) and Vikings at home in 2012, played them away in 2016, so play them here again.

There are 2 games decided by your positioning in your division - 3rd place. So, we play the 3rd place team in the AFC East and AFC West, thus playing Jets and Raiders. When a division is not in the rotation in entirety, the home and away rotates based on how you played them last year. Played the Dolphins at home this year, so play the Jets away next year. Last time AFC West was not in rotation was 2018 when we played at Raiders where we won 42-28, so we play them at home next year.

So, AFC North rotation, NFC North rotation, and the AFC divisions not in rotation (AFC East and AFC West) explained above.

The dreaded at Pittsburgh matchup again!? Who at the league office is torturing us???

It’s a rotation.  Next year the Colts play the whole AFC north.  This year they played the whole AFC West.  2021 they will play at Buffalo and Miami while New England and New York come to Indy.

It’s a rotation you don’t really need a source.  You play one division in your conference every three years alternating home and road games, same with the NFC, just every four years, your six division games, and the two remaining division teams in your conference that finish in the same position as you.

A lot of the bad teams this year will be a lot better next year. So like ciny and lions jets.. bengals will be getting burrows, lions will be getting Stafford back jets have another year to develope Sam darnald and get his weapons.. don’t be expecting too much from this team especially when we lose to teams like the dolphins

Do you really think the Bengals and Lions will be better next year? I don't see it. Those teams have a lot of holes to fill especially the Bengals. The Bengals defense will be a lot older as well. As far as Stafford goes, we don't know how he's going to come back from an injury like that. Who is Burrow going to throw the ball to? The Bengals have no receivers and AJ Green is old.

Besides the Pittsburgh game all our tough out of division games are at home. It’s a favorable schedule considering.  I think last time GB came to town we had one heck of a comeback with Arians as coach. Was that the first game after Chuck was diagnosed with cancer?

It was the First ChuckStrong game. Comeback win. Reggie with his orange gloves.

I thought everyone knew this.

The other games are against teams that finished their divisions in same rank.

I'll probably attend the Pittsburgh game again. Very nice stadium + fan atmosphere.

I went to tons of games at the old Three Rivers stadium including the ‘95 AFC Championship.  Saw Marino, barry sanders,  Walter payton.  All the greats..

Three rivers had this little 3 or 4 piece band that played during games.  Their big “song” was the theme to the odd couple. Now we have bog screens, wifi, etc at games and its those old obscure things that i miss about games.  I could say that about Christmas too.  Iur senses are over-worked.

By far the most difficult schedule since I joined in 2012.  Especially the home schedule!

Wowza!

Maybe we will have to get Clever for Trevor!    2021 here we come!

Why wouldnt we get them at home, makes no sense not to rotate...

That’s because we played Steelers at home in 2017 as part of entire AFC North rotation, like 2020.

The 2019 game was an AFC North game outside the entire AFC North rotation on the road due to 2018 same place AFC North Bengals game at home, first game we lost vs Bengals when Luck returned. The 2021 AFC North game will similarly be at home against same place AFC North team.
