Young - Touts 49Ers As Peyton Manning's 'best Opportunity'

Young described Manning's workout session with the 49ers on Tuesday as an under-the-radar affair that helped solidify San Francisco's position in the race.

"(General manager) Trent Baalke laid low, he did the research, Jim Harbaugh threw with Peyton Manning," Young told ESPN, per ProFootballTalk.com.

"They didn't get in the front pages," Young said. "They know that they are the best answer for Peyton Manning. They know they have the best defense in the league to offer. They know they have the offensive weapons. They know they have Jim Harbaugh. They know all the pieces in place for Peyton Manning. It is the best opportunity for Peyton Manning. They knew it, and they waited for the wannabes to exhaust themselves, and then they came in right at the end, and that’s why I think they'll probably land him at this point."

I agree 10000000%, San Fran is the best place for Peyton. Solid defense, good O-line, good coaching, good pass catchers. They have it all

With the addition of Manningham they would be very very hard to defend. I agree the 49ers should be his new team.

My intuition tells me Denver. Much better coaching staff in place with John Fox & John Elway as VP of Football Operations. I don't trust Jim Harbaugh. Denver has $40 million in cap space, a solid defense too, a great offensive line, Peyton won't face Eli in the NFC, if that line could protect inept Tim Tebow imagine what they could do for #18 especially with his quick release of the ball, & John Elway lived through the dilemma of winning late in his NFL career too.

Stick with the AFC Peyton & what you know like the back of your hand. John Elway speaks QB dialect, QB drive, & QB Greatness...You know Denver is your road to Championship Glory Peyton. Come On Now Let's Get Real!!!

Yeah but your intuition also had him going to the Cardinals...... :neener:

Yes, I have been wrong before, but in reality I had him going to Miami 85% never the Cardinals though. But, I will admit that my initial pick was way off.

Where ever #18 lands, I pray it isn't Tennessee. He will never win a Championship there.

Hmmm, could have sworn you said numerous times it was Arizona, oh well. I've been wrong before, just ask my wife.

No worries Subvet. We're cool. I could never be angry at a vetran anyway. I have too much respect for your service to our country. Besides, my dad served in Korea. I've got a foundness for Navy personnel anyway.

Look what he did with Stanford, then in one year he turned a team that Singletary couldn't do anything with to the brink of the SB. Harbuagh has coaching in his blood - there's no doubt he can coach.

What has John Fox ever done?

But Elway won't be his coach and won't be watching film or game-planning with him. Throughout this whole thing, I think Elway is just looking for a way to get rid of Tebow. I don't think Elway likes Tebow very much as a QB and wants to get rid of him, but needs a solid reason so as to not anger the fan base. Getting Peyton would be perfect for him because they would be upgrading at QB, keeping the fans happy, and Elway would be able to get whoever he wants at QB soon

A defensive-specialist, Fox became Carolina's coach in 2002, inheriting a 1-15 team. He fashioned a 73-71 regular season record, including three 11-win campaigns that led to two NFC South Division titles and three playoff appearances. Under Fox, the Panthers went 5-3 in the postseason, reaching the conference championship game twice and the Super Bowl following the 2003 season, where Carolina lost narrowly to New England. On February 1, 2004, at Reliant Stadium in Houston, Texas, (AFC) champion New England Patriots (17-2) beat the National Football Conference (NFC) champion Carolina Panthers (14-6), with a score of 32–29.

What the heck has Jim Harbaugh done? College victories are meaningless in the NFL. He sucked as an NFL QB himself & when he loses in the NFC Championship Game against the NY Giants he blames the referrees on bad calls. Really Jim? Your 2 special teams fumbles & Alex Smith's failure to move the ball at all in the 2nd half had zero to do with your loss? Fox doesn't complain & he actually took the Carolina Panthers to the Big Lombardi dance. Jim Harbaugh is way too overrated in my opinion.

Actualy I thought Vs Brees and Giants he played well Re Smith, maybe my memory was wrong but thought he had 2 games of shootouts

I will acknowledge that John Elway won't be on the field or studying film either as you suggest. I will also readily admit that Tim Tebow cannot anticipate throwing lanes, scrambles too much, & will never be a true franchise QB. I want him gone as well. He is an embarrassment to all NFL QBs not his work ethic, but his performance capabilities on the field of play.

With John Elway, it is all about Championship toughness, mentality, & a deliberate mindset to win at all costs. An untapped resource of football experience on both the player & front office side combined. A crucial ally in Peyton's corner to be sure.

I will also acknowlege that Coach Harbaugh did an amazing job turning a lackluster team into a winning 49ers franchise. Can he do again with QB Alex Smith at the helm? Nope.

Dream scenario - Manning to 49ers. Winning next 2 of the 3 SBs ( tying with Brady ) One of them is 19-0 First QB to win 19-0 and SB with multiple teams End the Manning/Brady illogical ring Debate for good Retire, walk outside LOS watching his Mural Call Irsay and ask if he needs any endorsement ( Its back to Pacers town )

Just pulling your leg. I get what you are saying apart from the last bit from 'Mural' onwards.....

Good point that I didn't see until now. It'll be Harbaugh and Manning in the film room every day until the preparation is done....which is just before kickoff for Peyton.

The 49ers went 13-3 with Alex Smith. While I'm not saying it's a given conclusion that it will happen, I could see them go undefeated

haha preparation is never done for Peyton. He watches film and takes notes all week. Then he makes a one page sheet of notes on some of the more important things he needs to remember for the opponent and reads it in his locker before the game. Then, during the game, he looks at the pictures they take and talks with coaches about adjustments. It never ends with him

You are assuming that they will repeat success but they were a sleeper last year with Harbaugh's rookie season. What if they don't measure up this year Manning or no Manning? The NFC often has different teams regardless make it into the title game.

The Niners might get back but sometimes I think people need to chill on Jim Harbaugh. He is not Lombardi.

Personally my sleeper is the Seahawks now.

No team is going 16-0 again IMO. When the Pack fell short against the Chiefs and came so close this year I realized 19-0 in this league is near impossible and unrealistic. Sometimes not worth it either. Takes a toll on a squad.

If another team ends up 16-0 like NE I might be stunned. They almost lost so many close games that year and it finally caught up to them.

I don't think it's just because of Harbaugh though. They have a really good defense, arguably the best in the league. They have a young offensive line anchored by Staley, Iupati, and Davis. Frank Gore leads a solid, reliable running game. Crabtree is a decent WR, Vernon Davis is one of the better TEs in the league, they just signed Manningham who is also a solid receiver. Akers made the most FGs out of any kicker in the league last year....take that one how you want it, it could mean they had a poor red zone offense. And they did all this with Alex Smith at QB. I'm not saying they will have success because they were a sleeper last year and because Harbaugh was a rookie; I'm saying they will have success this year because of all the reasons I just listed.

I know what they have on their team. I watched every game for them last year. I thought Smith had a good year but gets picked on a lot. The Niners pass protection is iffy and he never had great talent at WR either. It was a suprise team that won 13 games. Smith threw like 5 picks all year.

Just saying, nothing is a given in this league. Ever. They might do it but they might not...we see it every season. The favorites often don't win it all in recent seasons.

In the meantime we don't know yet if Peyton goes there but if he does it WILL be SB or bust which is kinda scary.

I am not sure quite what to think of TN or Denver though if they land Manning and their chances. I am sure they will go up as favorites but not be nearly as favored.

In some ways people would look at the Niners with Manning as almost the new "dream team." I usually hate those kinds of teams so if Peyton is on it then it will be tough for me. It's like the 2007 Pats hype. Or last years Eagles. Ugh......

Should be interesting to watch though.

I am not saying the Niners can't do it though.

I think a part of me would die if Peyton went to a division rival....

And I don't want to see him play in Denver. I really don't like Elway. But they do have some solid pieces in place, strong running game and an above average defense with very good pass rushing

Is Denver out?

As for TN.....if Peyton goes there I fully expect Colts fans to go nuts for a little while.

As for SF many will be excited. But, you have to hope it ends up with one SB title while he is there at least or many will bring backlash towards Manning and the SF FO.

I think Denver with Manning would be heavily favored in the AFC too based on how far they went last year with Tebow.

And yeah this 49ers fan I know from another forum was ranting about Smith's redzone offense and the Niners as a whole last year. It came together for them in a few games (like the Saints in the playoffs) but was never consistent. A FG team for sure.

I still don't think they had enough weapons though in the end either.

I guess my overall point is also what happens if the Niners get Manning and a SB win never happens? Then what?

Is it SB or bust?

We'll have to see why. We had some pretty talented teams, but only have 1 Super Bowl championship to show for it. There are a number of reasons why, including injuries in our 10-6 season, poor coaching, etc.

Agreed, of the three SF is the only one I like and it's probably his best chance for a ring next year.

Yeah, that was one of their flaws. Peyton can work the red zone offense WAY better than Alex Smith

But keep in mind the Steelers were also missing many players in that playoff game. Replay that game anywhere but in Denver so Ryan Clark can play and the outcome will be different; the Broncos end up being a 1 and done team

The Broncos ended the regular season looking disgustingly bad on offense. lmao

Yeah I know the Steelers had injuries and had more in the game but I was still stunned. Part of me thinks they overlooked Tebow though. And based on how he ended the year I am not sure I can truly blame them.

Pats got a gift opening up with Denver. I was kinda ticked on that.

The AFC playoffs looked pretty weak to me compared to the NFC.

The NFC is going to be brutal. Especially if Peyton goes to SF. Brady is really the only top QB in the AFC right now. If you are generous you can throw in Big Ben. Rivers on a good day too.
