Jamell Fleming Cb, Gem Of The Draft

Recommended Posts

Every highlight video always shows the good plays, never the bad.

I dont post highlight videos. hahah, This is just all the plays he was involved in. He's so good, his scouting tape just looks like a highlight tape

Imma post my second thread with another player whose scouting tape looks like a highlight tape.

What are the knocks on him? He is a projected fourth rounder I believe so there has to be a reason he isn't higher

OU fan here after the combine and pro days he is projected as a 3rd rounder

The knocks on him is he isnt biggest or fastest corner(5'10 206 40 yd is 4.53), but the MAIN knock on him is he missed spring practices in 2009 and 2011 due to academic misconduct.

He was a ST standout his first 2 yrs as he is a excellent tackler.

He had a breakout yr. his Junior yr as it was his first yr. as a starter his stats were 71 tackles, 8.5 for loss, five interceptions, and 14 pass broken-up

He didnt have as good #'s his senior yr. due to people not throwing his way and missing 2 games due to injury his stats were 60 tackles 10 passes broken-up and 2 pics

Great zone defender due to his closing speed and excellent talcking

Has the ablity to play man due to his length and physicality to get a strong piece of receivers off the line. His Short-area quickness helps him stay with receiver gets inside of him at the line, has enough speed to trail and make a play on the ball or secure the tackle. But the knocks is he Stops his feet and allows receivers to get into his body when off, making him susceptible to double-moves and Lacks elite speed to catch NFL-caliber receivers deep after a false step forward.

As a OU fan Im going to miis him he was a shut down corner and can be 1 in the NFL too

Hope this helps

What he said. He plays better man coverage close than playing off. Which, in the NFL 99% of corners are having problems doing. I think, of all the tape i've watch. Him and Boykin have the best hips and turn the most naturally. Every team has thier needs, but since we are playing more man...people like Janoris Jenkins, Boykin and Fleeming are going to be more valuable to us then Heyward, even though Heyward is a great prospect.

I have yet to seen game tape of Josh Robinson, but it seems like he did the same things to A.J Green and JEffreies that Jenkins did, and considering his speed and agility, we should be lookin at him too, if he makes it to the third round.

I'm finished with my 1-3rd round scouting. and my 6-7th. 4th and 5th rounds will be interesting.

Yes it helped, thanks!

How would Flemming compare to some former OU CB's like Brian Jackson and Dominique Franks?

Your Welcome To me imo he's better than Franks. Fleming is defienatly a better tackler then Franks. Franks is a little better in Man espically when he plays off but Fleming is better when hes up close and has great closing speed to either make a play on the ball or secure the tackle. Fleming is better in Zone as he is a excellent zone defender due to his closing speed, Franks struggled in zone and gave up big plays due to miscommunication with the safties. So in all Franks is faster but Fleming has excellent closing speed. Fleming is a MUCH BETTER tackler and can provide run support as for Franks was never asked to provide much run support and is not as good as tackler. So imo Fleming is better. To me imo he is better than Jackson to. Jackson struggled in Zone as he typically plays on the line so reacts to slowly when playing off-man or in zone. Slow back pedal and He's Inconsistent taking proper angles playing the ball in front of him. Receivers turning outside after the catch easily beat him to the sideline. But he has the athlectism to improve in Zone. As for Man he is a excellent press corner. Usually stays with his man if he misses the jam, but gets off-balance has nice fluid hips to turn and run down the sideline but his Change of direction is adequate for his size but his average foot quickness will be an issue against top receivers who will easily separate out of breaks. So in all Fleming MUCH BETTER zone corner. Jackson is a more physical but Fleming can be physical. Fleming is better in man but Jackson is MUCH better in Press. Both r excellent tacklers as Jackson once he gets latched on hes hard to lose but takes bad angles sometimes but not very explosive and struggles in run support. both were ST stand outs early So imo Fleming is better Another knok on Fleming is past OU corners(since 2003) not exceeding expectations yet and but most think Fleming can break that curse

Yes, that is why I brought those two recent CB's up. I have a few Sooner fans in my family and I remember watching both Jackson and Franks and was more impressed with Jackson than Franks but since I have not watched any OU games this past year and only one or two games in the year before (they moved out of state), I wanted to see how they compared to Fleming...again thanks

Anytime

imo Franks was a little better than Jackson though Jackson had nice size and very athletic for his size. Flemming pretty much shutdown anyone he went against this yr. Fleming has a very good chance to be a #1 corner for any team with his closing speed on the ball and excellent abilty to tackle.

If I was the Colts If hes still there in the 3rd I take him and put him next to Powers as the #2 corner. And if he does as well as I expect him too let him compete with Powers as the #1 corner the following offseason. Plus hes a very excellent STs player

    • I think most important option is missing in the poll : No One.   I think it's a fairly average QB class that it's okay to not like anybody enough to draft him. There's no one QB that Wows you with their pocket passing Caliber or pure athletic traits or good combination of both. It's like a tweener class of all those abilities, having lop-sided combination of above said skills.    And, this poll, rather than forcing to pick one QB, needed that extra option to express staying away from this QB class.

    • If one were to understand that all teams defend with zones in very similar ways, and know that Gus plays man about 30% of the time which is just on the lower side of middle of the pack, so what then is the issue with "Gus".  Ballard/Dodds!  We ARE near the bottom in speed, intellect, experience, Talent, with Gus's back seven. Gus is forced to play soft with dem bums.   Ballard/Dodds have killed us with their many misses drafting DE's, Rock-Ya.   This draft, this 53 man + roster should be pivotal, heavily scrutinized by Ownership.
    • I voted Williams because of his talent and if Chicago doesn't pick him and he becomes great, they will go down as the team that had the guy and blew it again. I honestly am not sold on Williams being great though. My dark horse best QB is Penix.   My bust pick is McCarthy. He is Mac Jones.
    • I do have recollection of it, read my posts above. I never Said you were wrong regarding what I posted but I never created a thread saying he was coming back. I am also sure it was before we signed Wentz when I said he was coming back - which you jumped all over. Time flies. I am not even sure why you started this nonsense? I got a head ache trying to find my old posts and posts I created to make sure I was sane.   Word of advice, you can take this how you want but quit starting stuff with people that is unnecessary. I say that as a friend because as a poster you are one of the best in here.   Calling me out is fine but over something I said 3 years ago is unexpected. I did say what you said but it wasn't last year.    I Need a drink and people wonder why I drink. I can't even come here and have fun to escape the real world. This place is a head ache.
