If he goes to Tennessee, then he's not serious about winning a championship. He'd go there for money and or to get revenge on the Colts, period. Some say he'd join Tennessee because he played college for them and that the fans love him, and while that's true, those qualities won't help him win a championship.

We're about to see what Peyton really thinks about the game of football. If he's a competitor, like he says he is, he will stay away from Tennessee.

i would have to agree, Tennessee wont win a superbowl anytime in the next couple of years, and they would be lucky to make the playoffs. with houston in that division and them getting better every year, it would take tennessee having to win atleast a minimum of 11 games to make awild card. this is strictly manning wanting to go back to tennessee and play there and possibly try to stick it to the colts for releasing him. i dont buy that him and irsay are fine and that manning doesnt have a grudge against irsay for the release. why wouldnt he have one? he wanted to retire a colt and he cant do that now, so now he will be looking to stick a dagger in the colts hearts.

You are correct that we cannot know what he is thinking, but to suggest we know what kind of person he is, and what values he has is a stretch.

It's true that for all we know he wears ladies underwear and spends hours everyday watching internet porn. He may have views on religion and politics which are diametrically opposed to my own. Don't know, don't care.

However we also know that he (and his rather prominent family) have been subjected to just an absurd level of examination for for more than 15 years now. His father for much longer. We know what dozens of public figures think of him - never a bad word. We know about his charitable endeavors and that he manages to be a gentleman in public to everyone essentially all of the time (something that I'm incapable of despite an utter lack of scrutiny), and that he has an intense, almost compulsive desire to compete and to win. We've witnessed it, read about, cherished it. If he was a drunk, or cheating on his wife, or getting into stupid fights we would know about it just because the law of averages would have placed recurrent habits such as that in the news. I don't pretend to know the man, but he's not like he's a complete mystery.

Common sense suggests that if money were the only object - and if his goal was to manipulate the teams and the media - he would have kept all twelve teams that inquired in the loop, and simply picked the one that offered the most money. Instead the MOST likely to overpay him (Washington and Seattle) weren't even given the time of day, and Miami has also been eliminated. CLEARLY other considerations are in play here. If it comes down to him liking all three remaining teams equally, and money ends up being the deciding factor, that's a very different story, and hardly worth portraying with the snide comments that some have.

Because it would be a childish waste of time. Even if he wanted to prove something to the Colts, the BEST way to do that would be to win a SB (or 4) with someone else, not to beat a rebuilding team head to head a couple of times. Who would even care?

obviously tennessee fans lol. especially after the massacre he put on against tennessee while playing for indy. but who knows he may shock the world and say he dont want to play anymore, now that would be funny seein how denver and tennessee are trying so hard to get him. i mean denver is whilling to even trade tebow if they get manning for just a short time.

I agree he should take all the time he needs to decide. Thought it was crazy when he was first released and it was said he planned to have a decision make within a week. Too many variables and too much on the line to rush into it. Probably will be his only and last move, make it right and make it count

Plus, the Titans I feel are still in a state of disarray. They used their 1st round pick last season on a QB who they wont get to use (if Manning joins), Chris Johnson has fallen into a slump, they have no elite #1 WR's, they lost the longest tenured head coach in NFL history (that type of culture takes a while to bounce back from), they lost Cortland Finnegan, and the Titans were ranked 31st rushing and 24th stopping the run (sounds like the Colts!)

If Manning joins the Titans, he better be prepared for the same stuff he had to endure with the Colts... Poor run performance, poor run defense, and an inexperienced head coach. If he joins the Titans, he can't possibly be doing it for championship reasons.

That's odd.

..and he has plenty of money....i.e. the $26 mil he banked last year.

After taxes, his agent, lawyers, financial advisers, handlers, community service and charitable contributions, CBA dues, etc., he probably banked about $7 million.

Not trying to start an argument, just saying... a lot of the wealthy people, athletes in particular, don't have nearly as much money as people think. The numbers on their contracts are often nowhere near the amount they will ever see.

Just one more thing to say when they run out of topics. The problem is how it influences feeble minded listeners.

I suspect that some commentators are getting tired from all the stress involved in trying to stay on top of the story, and showing impatience in the process. But what exactly is he doing that's wrong? I've never seen him ASKING to be followed around in a helicopter. He hasn't been talking to the media at ALL. He isn't manipulating the situation, he's just trying to ignore them long enough to make a rational decision. Peyton has only been a free agent a few more days than many many others in the league. Do we know or care how many teams any of THEM have talked to, or why they are taking "so long" to make up their minds? He isn't required to risk a poor and life altering decision just because some * has reached the limits of his brief attention span.

Well said.

If it's all about winning, Denver and San Fran are the two remaining teams in the hunt that offer the best chance.

Denver has already offered him 5 years, $90 Million. But maybe San Fran will offer more.

And the simple fact that the Titans might very well get him should indicate that it may not just be about winning. Titans are nowhere close to being as good as Denver or the Niners.

Yeessss, him taking time (what 2 days...omg!) to weigh options and consider where he will move his family and how his future will play out has nothing to do with anything. He should just hold out to see who will give him the most money. All about the dollar. :sarcasm:

Not that he isn't already worth a bunch and probably doesn't need to worry about the money or the fact that his wife is also very successful.

Man, how greedy.

:sigh:

I think he's been thoughtful to tell teams once he's eliminated them.

It hasn't been long since he was cut. 10 days ago.

He gets calls as soon as FA opens - 5 days ago. It was reported that 12 teams contacted, maybe more.

He eliminated some right away since he had no interest (like Washington).

He immediately made plans to go and meet with the few he was serious about. We know Miami, Tenn, Az, Den and SF. Narrowing it down.

He eliminates Miami and AZ. Down to 3. And he works out for them and discussing contracts supposedly. All the time in between, he is flying around the country/having all day meetings and practicing.

Now takes 2-3 days to make final decision about his career and future. Says he will announce on Mon or Tues. A *WEEK* after FA opened. One week.

Come on, gotta be reasonable here.

Besides everything else, it is Peyton's wedding anniversary this weekend. So leave the man alone to celebrate with his family for goodness sakes'.

Yeah. I am also sure Ashley and Peyton will maybe talk about his future team. ;) My guess is Ashley would prefer TN. I mean duh right?

You think he's gonna get some heat from Ashley for playing feetsball with Tennessee on their anniversary? Or will the $70 million dollars help her get over it?

I don't mean to come across like a complainer but PM isn't a Colt and hasn't been one in almost two weeks....move on already!

It's got more to do with respect than denial. He'll officially be a member of another team (please Denver) in a few days. At which time we should relegate most of his threads to the NFL General. What does Peyton have to do with the Colts? We just rolled the dice and mortgaged our future because of this player. His relevance is stifling to our fanbase.

I believe there is a stickied thread regarding this matter and we should prolly keep this tired subject from poisoning every thread.

I doubt it's about money. The price is pretty much already set on what you're going to have to pay him if you've made it this far on Survivor: Manning Island.

However, if he doesn't pick San Fran, I'm going to assume there are other motivations behind the decision besides winning.

Meh, I could see why the city of SF would be unattractive to a country boy with Midwestern values. Also, Denver is 1 QB away from dominance. They frickin beat Pitt in the playoffs with Tim Tebow for cripes sake. Tebow is a junk QB and that says alot about where they stand.

Also, Denver has the ability to bring in a few toys for Manning. Though SF already has great weapons in place.........Maybe a Clark/Wallace acquisition would be enough to make these teams a little more evenly matched?

I could understand choosing Denver. I still think the Niners = instant superbowl win, but I could see Denver.

Tenn, however, is IMO a significantly inferior team to both the Broncos and the Niners.

Many national media outlets think Peyton is playing this thing out intentionally to get more money, avoiding NCAA news,

Don't watch mainstream news unless you want to be brainwashed.

PM has more money than GOD.... I guarantee you $ cheez is not even and issue.

Yep, he'd be back to supporting a team instead of being the final piece to a beautiful puzzle. Tennessee = more of the same......"one and dones"....postseason irrelevance and retiring with significantly less jewelry than he should have.

The media people are nuts. For example, listen to ESPN radio and they are always complaining about "the media." However, ESPN is the media, and when they complain they complain about themselves.

The "media" has been following Peyton around for the past week in helicopters, trying to intercept him and get the latest word before the competition. Then they complain that he is creating a media circus. I laughed when I heard that the 49ers had talked to Manning and had him work out, and the media did not know a thing about it.

That must really have ticked them off! :neener:

Please don't ban me! From what I've always heard/read about this place, bannation is imminent for those who don't "toe the line" or have a differing opinion on things. For that reason alone, it took me years to finally take a chance and join this site.

I like it here, and the posters here seem to be good folks. I must be doing something right, or I would never have had enough approved posts to become a Member. Whether or not I wind up banned, I'll still be a Colts fan...on this website or on another. I just ask that y'all don't make me leave for expressing myself.

P.S. Your current name, as a MOD, is 'PeytonGirl'...on the official Colts website fan forum. Peyton is no longer a Colt. You might want to consider changing your name. PLEASE don't ban me for that remark. I'm not trying to be an a**, I'm just saying.

    • To add to this, I just did my 2nd version of a mock draft where I took EDGE first round. Check it out if you are interested!
    • I am with you,    I would be happy with best DL at 15, but also happy with WR / CB
    • Now that I've made all my picks for the Gavin Mock draft this year, I'm going to do my 2nd version of a mock draft for the Colts. This one will be a bit different than the first. There will still be no trades in this one (I will do trades in my final installment), but I will be drafting a different variation of what I think Ballard may do.   Round 1.) Laiatu Latu, EDGE, UCLA Round 2.) Ricky Pearsall, WR, Florida Round 3.) Cam Hart, CB, Notre Dame Round 4.) Audric Estime, RB, Notre Dame Round 5.) Malik Mustapha, S, Wake Forest Round 6.) Dylan McMahon, IOL, North Carolina State Round 7.) Jordan McGee, LB, Temple   So I'm feeling that Ballard may go EDGE in the first round possibly with the dropoff after the first round. Latu has the best combination of athleticism and performance IMO, and despite the injury concerns, I feel Ballard may go for him at 15. Pearsall played with Richardson in Florida for a year, and I actually like him a lot anyway, could be a target in the 2nd round. Cam Hart has the measurables that Ballard likes and could start right away. Estime has the potential to be the top RB in this draft IMO. Mustapha is a nice sleeper S in this class, and since no one really separates a ton, he's a good get in the 5th round. McMahon can be a backup C for Kelly this year, and take over as soon as next year IMO. Finally McGee is a nice lottery ticket at LB that has a solid RAS score. He could be the next Zaire Franklin in a couple years and provides good depth.
    • Aiyuk is awesome, but I am wondering if we would have so much of our cash tied to one position (WR)
    • I'm actually leaning towards Ballard going EDGE in the first round more and more now. Besides Marshawn Kneeland, there doesn't seem to be any top EDGE rushers outside the first round. I could see Ballard going Latu or Verse at 15. Then he grabs a WR and CB in either order in the 2nd and 3rd round.
