I like the comparisons but come on... JB is nowhere near Curtis painter. This is just being ridiculous.

there are not a lot of comparable QBs to Jacoby.  hes bigger and stronger than most, pretty slow when running but not easy to bring down 

 

he misses way too many open receivers for me to be on board with him

He's like Big Ben when it comes to his strength/mobility in the pocket, but he's nowhere near the passer Big Ben is. He's like... Marcus Mariota as a pocket passer in Big Ben's body.

I would say he is way more like Roethlisberger than anyone would want to admit. Until he got Bell and Brown, Roethlisberger was a above average game manager. Look at his stats.

Highest QBR was 75

Started 216 games

 

Then go and look at Jacoby stats

**If you want to look at what everyone says, which is JB is 27. Then let’s look at their age 27 season**

 

Ben- 4328 passing yards, 26 TD, 12 INT, Completion% 66.6, Team win/loss 9-6. He had also started 71 games prior to that season. 
 

JB (all stats through 12 games) 2496 passing yards , 18 TD, 6 INT, Completion% 63.2, Team win/loss 6-7(6-6 when JB starts) 
He has started only 17 games prior to this season.

No they are not similar. Stats are a product of a lot of things in addition to the player himself - surrounding talent, playcalling, offensive system, luck, etc. Just an example... 66.6% completion % vs 63% completion doesn't tell you much if you don't know what types of passes those QBs are completing. When Jacoby is dink and dunking 63% is not very impressive and when Big Ben is throwing bombs downfield his 66.6% are extremely impressive - Jacoby average yards per attempt are 6.9, Big Ben's were 8.6. This is huge difference. Per completion 10.9 vs 12.8... again, those are big differences and show you something about the degree of difficulty of what both QBs are doing. Until this year in his whole 15 year career Big Ben has had no season with lower yards per attempt or yards per completion than Brissett's best season so far. 

 

You have to just watch them play and you'd know who the clearly better QB is at the respective age. Also, the reason a lot of us have been skeptical of Brissett as our QB going forward is NOT his stats. His stats this year are better than his actual play on the field. The reason is his actual play, the things he's doing well and the things he's struggling with.

What does that have to do with anything? I do this every year. I find a prospect I like more than most people and I put him as my avatar. And once the draft is done, I put the picture of my favorite Colts pick in the draft as my avatar. Nothing new here.

I like Fromm a lot but that seems like a good comparison. I don't know why but when I see From play, he reminds me of Teddy Bridgewater. I guess that is why I like him.

Bridgewater was going to be another comparison for him, but I didn't know whether to put him as a high end or low end... 

 

About Eason. People see current Flacco but there was a time Flacco wasn't that bad... He had some great playoff stretches and even won the SB MVP... I included a + to signify that I think he can be a better version in some respects.

 

In general, comparisons IMO should be stylistic more than as an expected level of play... When I compare players I almost always think of it as the type of player they are rather than the success I expect them to have...

High end - Dan Marino

Low end - Carson Wentz

 

Herbert is just too good of a passer and his IQ is extremely high. Quick release, has elite size and athleticism, and make back shoulder throws look easy.

 

With this O-line, a healthy Hilton and Mack in the backfield I think Herbert will be very successful year 1.
