Colts to work out FA kickers today

Yeah... AV hung around too long but crazy thing is he still has enough leg strength. Really appears to be mental as he makes the 50 yarders.. they have less pressure ? Can you imagine what has to be running through his mind when he kicks a short one or XP ?  

 

That said , everything considered , I do think the Colts should have someone else doing the kicking . 

 

We'd be 7-2 or better if everything had worked in our favor, if every ball bounced our way. But that's not how it works, especially when every game comes down to one score. Not good enough to pull away even from bad teams.

 

And yeah, I agree, I feel worse for AV, but there's still an obvious problem that should be addressed. If it were AC giving up pressure every other play, he'd be benched. And it's worse for a kicker, because it's impossible to miss his failures.

Irsay is an emotional and sentimental owner. He thrives on rewarding those who have been good to him. He’s not the kind to turn his back on those he loves. 
 

You can’t tell me Vinny has been here all these years and hasn’t developed a close relationship with Jim. Even if they aren’t fishing buds they have their own close personal relationship, however it may be. Jim isn’t going to just dump one of the top 5 of all time most important players to his franchise in the middle of a season. Chuck Pagano finished out his campaign before being shown the door despite the fact that everyone saw it coming. He could have sent a message to the players or whoever by ushering him out of town mid-season but he didn’t. Why?

That is exactly why the Colts are what they are and the Patriots are a dynasty.  That emotional attachment did not serve Irsay well during the Pagano & Griggson era...did it?   He lost a franchise quarterback as a net result of all of this misplaced attachment because stayed too long with Griggson and Pagano who could not keep Luck out of harm’s way.
 

Vinny is a legend who has great exploits on his resume.  We get it.  However, I’d argue that most of his greatness was earned wearing another team’s uniform...the Patriots.  He kicked them to 3 Super Bowl titles compared to one in Indy.  He made his name and reputation with the Patriots.  Sure he has played for the Colts longer but his formulative and most accomplished years were spent in New England. And still Belichick had no problem letting him walk in 2005 when he perceived it to be in the best interest of the Patriots.  If Vinatieri was stinking it up like this with the Pats this year he would surely be gone by now...and wisely so.  But Ballard, Reich and Irsay are led by the heart strings (as you imply) and as a result the team suffers on the field.  It’s a bad message sent to the rest of the team.  Certain players can under perform and be rewarded solely on the basis of who they are and what they have achieved in the past.  While others are held accountable for poor play.  It’s a double standard that eats away at the  locker room “culture” that Ballard supposedly values so much.  Well...we are no longer living in the past and the present day Adam Vinatieri is a liability on the field to this football team.  A liability that teams like the Colts choose to live with to their detriment.  That’s not admirable...it is down right foolish in my opinion.

I don’t have to dumb myself down and accept or agree with everything my team does to be a fan of that team.  I’m a Colts fan because that is the team I fell in love with.  Simple as that. Doesn’t mean I close my eyes to their faults and shortcomings.  I support them in spite of them and hope for them to rise above. You can do better than that one man.  Lol    The Colts are a professional team in the business world of sports entertainment.  You should not be making decisions in the best interest of your business enterprise based on emotion.  It seldom leads to success.  I hate the Pats but their model is proven successful in these type of situations.  Irsay has found little success making  his heart-led business decisions of late.  It is what it is.  Fandom has nothing to do with it.

I'd say Justin Tucker is the greatest fg kicker in NFL history, football like many have said is a team game and while Adam has more rings, made fgs and points than others his fg% is 18th all time and if he keeps playing while fall down in the 20's.  Tucker is #1 at 90.7% and number #2 Lambo 88.1% is so far behind than #11 Rob Bironas is closer to Lambo than Lambo is to Tucker.  In all honesty it isnt even close at this point guy is amazing, could he fall off the cliff someday like Adam has, perhaps but it hasnt happened yet.

I'm pretty sure Vinny wouldn't be involved in a kicking tryout. It would only be for the new guys they bring in. 

Vinny has tryouts every Sunday and those tryouts are not going well.

Did anybody see the locker interview with Vinny after the game?  He was asked by a reporter if he was having any problems in practice. He replied " I have made everything except a 61 yarder" .  If a guy is checking all the boxes during practice he plays usually. I know that you cant win games in practice though. 

 

The whole purpose of the NFL changing the length of the PATs was to make it more challenging. We are starting to see this happen across the league. It just so happens that its more magnified with the Colts because they are playing such close games. 

 

I do see Vinny retiring after this year. I'll stand behind and support him as long as he is wearing the "SHOE".

1. Even if a player is doing well in practice, if he doesn't perform well in games, he is shown the door.

 

2. Yes they have moved the PAT to make it harder and yet the average is above 90 something percent as others have stated here. Adam is at 70%
