They aren’t making a change this week. It would already be done. They won’t cut him tomorrow or the rest of the week after practice begins tomorrow.

Yes, they are going to ride or die with Vinny. The kicker thing was a ruse to pacify the fans

I feel worse for AV than I do for the Colts. The team is 5-4 and that's with Brissett missing 2 games , Leonard 3 , and Hilton not only missing games but banged up pretty much all year. I can't see where this team has played better than 5-4. No pass rush , fair run defense , shoddy coverage and inconsistent OL play.

Yeah... AV hung around too long but crazy thing is he still has enough leg strength. Really appears to be mental as he makes the 50 yarders.. they have less pressure ? Can you imagine what has to be running through his mind when he kicks a short one or XP ?

That said , everything considered , I do think the Colts should have someone else doing the kicking .

We'd be 7-2 or better if everything had worked in our favor, if every ball bounced our way. But that's not how it works, especially when every game comes down to one score. Not good enough to pull away even from bad teams.

And yeah, I agree, I feel worse for AV, but there's still an obvious problem that should be addressed. If it were AC giving up pressure every other play, he'd be benched. And it's worse for a kicker, because it's impossible to miss his failures.

We are missing PATs at the moment. Freaking extra points that are considered automatic, and we're missing.

If we find a guy that can make those, we've already upgraded the position.

As mentioned by others, not automatic. Ever since 2015-

PAT's. No longer 'automatic', ever since 2015-

2019  93.4 %  (through 11/10/20190)
      94.3 %
      94.0 %
      93.6 %
2015  94.2 %

2014  99.3 %
      99.6 %
      99.4 %
etc...

I think most people understand misses on FG's will happen. The misses on XP are the ones that are truly driving most insane

At a 70% conversion, quite true

Simple logic and reason.

If they were going to make a move they would have done it by now.

Irsay is an emotional and sentimental owner. He thrives on rewarding those who have been good to him. He’s not the kind to turn his back on those he loves.

You can’t tell me Vinny has been here all these years and hasn’t developed a close relationship with Jim. Even if they aren’t fishing buds they have their own close personal relationship, however it may be. Jim isn’t going to just dump one of the top 5 of all time most important players to his franchise in the middle of a season. He’s going to let him finish and make the move in the spring when it feels more appropriate.

Chuck Pagano finished out his campaign before being shown the door despite the fact that everyone saw it coming. He could have sent a message to the players or whoever by ushering him out of town mid-season but he didn’t. Why?

Same deal, different faces.

That is exactly why the Colts are what they are and the Patriots are a dynasty.  That emotional attachment did not serve Irsay well during the Pagano & Griggson era...did it?   He lost a franchise quarterback as a net result of all of this misplaced attachment because stayed too long with Griggson and Pagano who could not keep Luck out of harm’s way.

Vinny is a legend who has great exploits on his resume.  We get it.  However, I’d argue that most of his greatness was earned wearing another team’s uniform...the Patriots.  He kicked them to 3 Super Bowl titles compared to one in Indy.  He made his name and reputation with the Patriots.  Sure he has played for the Colts longer but his formulative and most accomplished years were spent in New England. And still Belichick had no problem letting him walk in 2005 when he perceived it to be in the best interest of the Patriots.  If Vinatieri was stinking it up like this with the Pats this year he would surely be gone by now...and wisely so.  But Ballard, Reich and Irsay are led by the heart strings (as you imply) and as a result the team suffers on the field.  It’s a bad message sent to the rest of the team.  Certain players can under perform and be rewarded solely on the basis of who they are and what they have achieved in the past.  While others are held accountable for poor play.  It’s a double standard that eats away at the  locker room “culture” that Ballard supposedly values so much.  Well...we are no longer living in the past and the present day Adam Vinatieri is a liability on the field to this football team.  A liability that teams like the Colts choose to live with to their detriment.  That’s not admirable...it is down right foolish in my opinion.

Ok so then why are you a Colts fan and not a Patriots fan? If the win at all costs and stone cold business like approach is what you desire in a franchise what are you doing here? You made the case and presented evidence that that’s just how we do business. Which is true.

Why there’s such an inability for people to understand it, and acknowledge it for what it is is beyond me.

People have no sense of the depth of reality here. To them Adam is just a character on a weekly television show that can be written off and replaced without a second thought.

The reality of the situation is different. It’s just not that cut and dried.

I don’t have to dumb myself down and accept or agree with everything my team does to be a fan of that team.  I’m a Colts fan because that is the team I fell in love with.  Simple as that. Doesn’t mean I close my eyes to their faults and shortcomings.  I support them in spite of them and hope for them to rise above. You can do better than that one man.  Lol    The Colts are a professional team in the business world of sports entertainment.  You should not be making decisions in the best interest of your business enterprise based on emotion.  It seldom leads to success.  I hate the Pats but their model is proven successful in these type of situations.  Irsay has found little success making  his heart-led business decisions of late.  It is what it is.  Fandom has nothing to do with it.

It certainly looks that way.   What a mess we have gotten ourselves into.  I can only imagine how this has effected the teams morale and focus.

Nope. No blind fanboying. He’s sucked a fat one this season. Absolutely should have hung it up after last season. And god forbid he try to play another for anyone else next season and look even worse than he has this one.

But hey, little pro tip for you:

This ain’t madden. This is the real world.

Your experience as a fan is just that: as a fan. You’ve watched the guy for less than an hour a year sitting on your couch with greasy hands and a bag of chips in your lap. Of course you don’t understand the personal side of it.

You gonna choke your 15 year old dog to death in front of the kids because he can’t hold it anymore and pisses on the rug Every day?

No. You’re not.

Just like Irsay isn’t going to dump on one of the biggest players not just in franchise history, but league history in a less than respectful way.

So now killing your dog is the same as letting vinny go. Makes sense.

I don't put him in the top 20.

Just during his own career he is at least behind:

Manning

Harrison

Luck

Freeney

Wayne

Sanders

Several others

then that is your problem he is easily the greatest player at his position and he played the majority of his career as a colt he is most definitely one of our most cherished players ever

Most cherished maybe.   Not a top 5 all time Colt though.

His biggest moments were with the Pats as well.

Great Colt player for sure.

I'd say Justin Tucker is the greatest fg kicker in NFL history, football like many have said is a team game and while Adam has more rings, made fgs and points than others his fg% is 18th all time and if he keeps playing while fall down in the 20's.  Tucker is #1 at 90.7% and number #2 Lambo 88.1% is so far behind than #11 Rob Bironas is closer to Lambo than Lambo is to Tucker.  In all honesty it isnt even close at this point guy is amazing, could he fall off the cliff someday like Adam has, perhaps but it hasnt happened yet.

I have a feeling you are right. Vinny ends up winning the kicking tryout

I'm pretty sure Vinny wouldn't be involved in a kicking tryout. It would only be for the new guys they bring in.

Vinny has tryouts every Sunday and those tryouts are not going well.

I think for the most part the players can brush it off because he wasn’t the sole purpose of the losses. Only the chargers game is more on him. The team made so many mistakes in the Steelers and Miami games it makes it easier to stand by him. If this team has a game where they play very hard mistake free football and he is the reason for the loss I think that is the point or demoralizes the team. Right now Vinny is just a tiny reason they have lost.

If this Colts team is who I think they are, they wouldn’t turn on Vinny at any point. Nor any other player. In football more than any other sport, the guys on your team are your brothers, and you don’t say anything bad about them publicly. You support your brothers through thick and thin. TY spoke out against the OL two years ago and realized how awful that was of him. You publicly support your teammates, or you keep your mouth shut.

Unless you’re Jalen Ramsey

Did anybody see the locker interview with Vinny after the game?  He was asked by a reporter if he was having any problems in practice. He replied " I have made everything except a 61 yarder" .  If a guy is checking all the boxes during practice he plays usually. I know that you cant win games in practice though.

The whole purpose of the NFL changing the length of the PATs was to make it more challenging. We are starting to see this happen across the league. It just so happens that its more magnified with the Colts because they are playing such close games.

I do see Vinny retiring after this year. I'll stand behind and support him as long as he is wearing the "SHOE".

1. Even if a player is doing well in practice, if he doesn't perform well in games, he is shown the door.

2. Yes they have moved the PAT to make it harder and yet the average is above 90 something percent as others have stated here. Adam is at 70%

I was only being sarcastic about Vinatieri "winning the tryout"

meaning... (when I quoted another poster)...

that regardless of how the new kickers work outs went, that in the end, AV would be retained.

Ahem.

These have all been fun, but this one echos everything I’ve been talking about for the past 24 hours. Read it a second time if you don’t understand what it means the first time. If you don’t get it the second time... jeez. Best of luck to you, I hope you have someone reminding you to breather regularly because you can ill afford to lose anymore oxygen upstairs...

Well, here it is... the obligatory vote of confidence (once again)

https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2019/11/13/frank-reich-we-believe-adam-vinatieri-is-the-answer/

...“Adam is our kicker,” Reich said, via Stephen Holder of TheAthletic.com. “Chris and I have talked about the situation. Obviously there have been other kickers in here . . . When you take a look, we believe Adam is the answer.”

    • Once again running out time to put out a complete list of both offense and defensive players and where I have them ranked among their peers.  Common theme from original pre-college Week 1 many of the top players are not even listed or have fallen sharply after around 4 weeks of playing.    2025 NFL Draft QBs Cam Ward - Miami (FL) - Ward’s 3x300 games in a row have earned him 3-straight 90.0+ passing grades.  Jaxson Dart (MISS)  Diego Pavia (Vandy) - after 4 weeks and is R2 in the SEC ahead of Ewers, Manning, Milroe, Nussmeier, and Carson Beck.  Thrown 6 TDs no INTs, recovered 3 teammate fumbles. Ben Wooldridge (Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns) Noah Fiftia (Arizona)  KJ Jefferson (UCF) Tyler Shough (Louisville)  Cam Miller (NDST) Kyle McCord (Syracuse)   2025 NFL Draft OL LG Michael McAninch (Air Force) - After 3 weeks has a 91.7 overall season grade with a 92.4 RB grade.  Proved he can hold up to Baylor didn’t allow any QB pressure. RT Tyler Needham (Rutgers) 6’4” 306-pounds – After 3 weeks been dominant.  On 48 PB snaps only given up 1 QB hurry. LT/RT/OG Grey Zabel (North Dakota State) RT Lucas Scott (Army) 6’3” 305-pounds – After 3 weeks has an 85.2 RB grade.  Figure the Army trains more hand-to-hand combat and could be decent in PB game as well. LG Joshua Gray (Oregon State) LG Donovan Jackson (OSU) - good to see Jackson play again and display his dominance in his return to action. OT Wyatt Milum (West Virginia) RG Luke Kandra (Cincinnati) RG Tate Ratledge (Georgia LT Kelvin Banks Jr (Texas) LG Dylan Fairchild (Georgia) LT Percy Lewis (Auburn) 6’7” 355-pounds – After 4 weeks on 85 snaps has a 78.5 grade as a backup. OC Jake Slaughter (Florida) LT Josh Simmons (OSU)   2025 NFL Draft RBs RB/WR-KR Brashard Smith (Southern Methodist) 5’10” 196 pounds - Smith already has 17 missed tackles, 3rd most among all college RBs. TE Tyler Warren (PSU) TE Jalin Conyers (Texas Tech) - After 3 weeks has an 83.7 overall PFF grade and with Texas Tech excelling in run-blocking. TE Brant Kuithe (Utah) TE/WR Oronde Gadsden II (Syracuse) TE Colston Loveland (Michigan) TE Terrance Ferguson (Oregon) TE Jake Briningstool (Clemson)
    • Josh Allen Buffalo bills.  Super raw passer but big body with wheels.  It can happen just not easy or likely to happen
    • Thanks NFL for another typical primetime NFL LEast matchup. We learned both teams suck as bad as we thought they did
