Pittsburgh game felt very Chuck Pagano ish

Recommended Posts

The whole game yesterday seemed very weird from the start. The dumb penalty's that ended up with Pittsburgh points, the pick 6, missed XP, missed 2 pt conversion, missed FG to end game, oh and miss tackles. Not to mention some of the play calling on defense where Samuels looked like a HOF out of the backfield. A group of of us twitter were trying to sum up the game. We all agreed if felt like the good ole days of Chuck Pageno at the helm.

Not looking for backlash but I really hope this isn't a new trend.

I think hoyer being the pick machine he is ,Reich got conservative on drive at end .He can say what he wants but when he makes a kick I'm surprised now .So imo Reich got conservative,if brisett was in maybe we go for td .

If it would have been a Chuck Pagano ish game then the steelers would have laid a 50 burger on us. Our starting QB got injured, a blocked kick and Rhodes and Rigo botched a snap screwing adam. I knew we would lose this game but I am very happy we took them all the way to the end with it.

I don't really understand this line of reasoning.  Man it was 3rd and 1 and we didn't get it.  We could have thrown there, but it doesn't seem to be what just about anyone would do in that situation.  You get the 3rd and one, take the clock down to 5 seconds, and win the game with a routine 40 yarder.  Now our kicker is awful and shouldn't be playing anymore.

But man I don't think you can coach like that.  I think the last few plays were coached like they needed to be coached.  If it was 3rd and 3 or more then maybe you pass, but on 3rd and 1 it seems foolish.

I think he had a great game plan with no TY. The end where we just settled for the field goal with a struggling kicker is where I thought it felt chuck like.  Also that 4th and 4 not sure if Rigo would of been able to in them deep or if it would of went into the enzone.

The O, for the most part did well and had the team in position to win. Same with the defense.

Special Teams, stupid penalties, turnovers did them in. Just seemed like, any freak thing that could happen did happen.

I don't know what "Paganoish" means...but I don't think so. Pagano's teams would blow teams out...but also get blown out. This team doesn't do that...which isn't a bad thing...but it also leads to game like this week and last week.

...that lost the Super Bowl because he decided to throw on the goal line.

sometimes the opinions of this board makes me feel as if I’m in the twilight zone...

Most of us would have gladly said yes if asked if a 40-yard'ish kick by AV to win the game would have been acceptable.  Not Frank's fault...at all.

What this game needed was a fake punt. (Drops mic).

I interpret Paganoish to mean stupid, undisciplined penalties (see Darius Leonard x2, Glowinski x2), multiple turnovers, turnover for a TD, special team gaffes (blocked kick, missed FG, fumbled punt), and a spattering of conservative play-calling combined with going for it on 4th down at the wrong times.

I love Frank, but that game had lots of the Pagano-era staples.  It was ugly and disappointing in every facet.

I don't think OP was trying to compare Reich to Pagano (that would be insane).

    • 2 WRS that we could get later that I really like are Whop Philyor from Indiana and Tamorrion Terry from FSU.    Whop is a small fast receiver. He is 5’11 178lbs. Stats from this year are 1,001 yards and 5 TDS.    Terry is amazing.  Big, tall, fast and physical. He is 6’4 203 lbs. stats this year are 1,023 yards with 8 TDS.
    • My delusions all ended in grade school lol. My team was undefeated and un scored on all regular season. At the end of the season, we played the top league (based on size, like HS class) champ, and got literally crushed. Think of it as a 1A playing a 5A...  We had 12 total kids on our team, 11 playing both ways, and one kid that didn't want to play..... The team we played had like 35 kids and many had more facial hair in the 8th grade than my father.... It was a fantastic learning opportunity for my ego and I.....    I watch film on just about every player the comes to our team. I already watch and attend a decent amount of SEC games, so I already had a better than average familiarity with the kid. He absolutely looked on another level in college at times, and looked that way against some of the best teams in CFB. I'm not just an SEC junkie though. ND is my absolute #1, but I follow anyone they play pretty religiously (know thy enemy), watch a lot of Big10 (I graduated from a Big10 school), and by reason of where I live watch and attend a lot of SEC and ACC. I'm just a FB junkie to be honest.
    • This kid look promising any word on him his highlights look great could be a sleeper?
    • That report says Campbell had an injured hand..... I thought it was his stomach?
    • Edmund Sumner will play against the Pistons tomorrow. I wonder how he factors into the rotation.   Either he takes Aaron Holiday/TJ McConnells minutes, he remains out of the rotation, or they go back to a ten man rotation where they do small ball and play all 3 guards together at some points.
