Chuck Yeager

Saw in the Victory Speech video that Irsay gave the game ball to Chuck Yeager.  Is he a Colts fan or was something special going on celebrating his life?

Not sure if he is a Colts fan or not. I assume you know who he is since you didn’t mention that in your post, so I’ll leave that part out.

I don’t know if there is anything special going on but they honored him on the field before the game Sunday...I assume that’s why he received the game ball.

I’ve always thought WWII vets should be given free tickets to a game that would honor them. There’s not too many left.

Not sure he is a Colt's fan, but that was just another example why I think we have the best owner in the NFL.  Thank you Jim for a fine gesture to a fine American hero.  Winning the game was great, but giving the game ball to Mr. Yeager was a special moment all Colt's fans should be proud of.

Found a good write up on Wikapedia

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chuck_Yeager

He was stationed at Fort Benjamin Harrison in Indianapolis (as per that article).  I found he lives in California now, but then googled "Is Chuck Yeager a Colts Fan?" and came up with this:

https://blog.ticketmaster.com/indianapolis-colts-team-fans/

"The team counts among its loyal followers a number of big-time celebrities, including:
• Billy Bob Thornton
• Famed test pilot Chuck Yeager
• Actor Haley Joel Osment
• Comedian/former talk show host David Letterman
• Actress Elisabeth Shue
• Rob Lowe"

Pretty cool, Mr. Irsay!

Spent most of my adult life working at Edwards AFB.... Chuck and a handful of test pilots allowed our Air Force to make incredible strides putting their lives on the line there.... pushing the boundaries of the planes they flew.

It was nice to see him get a game ball after we beat  the Texans.

We gave him a pretty loud standing O in the pregame ceremony and it was really sweet to see him on the jumbotron smiling from ear to ear. There's never any shortage of American patriotism in our state and it showed with the reception we gave to Mr. Yeager. Very nice gesture for Jim to give the game ball to an American hero.

Test piloting a Jet is beyond awesome. Those guys have a special kind of guts.

I got the rare opportunity to meet him years ago at an EAA young pilots flight day at Terre Haute, circa mid 90s. Mad respect and the man really got the raw end of the whole NASA deal. Chuck was probably the best pilot of that era, but they only wanted college educated pilots, Chuck wasn’t. Glad to see he’s still with us.

    • This is an absolute lie, and you should know better. Tanking is a great strategy. It brought the Astros and Cubs world series, it brought the Colts Andrew Luck. The higher the pick, the more choices you have to either A.) pick a higher rated player on your board, or B.) trade down and accumulate more picks (like the Quenton Nelson trade). Top 15 picks are better than top 20 picks. Look at Ryan Kelly and Malik Hooker. The draft is not a crap shoot, it's about strategy and research, and every GM would rather have 5 extra players available to them at 15 than 20. This is not a debate, and Ballard would agree with me.
    • There is some truth to that, but odds are that you do better with the pick in the top 15.  The player you want is more likely to be there at 13 rather than 18.   Good players can be taken anywhere, but your odds improve with the better pick position.
    • Go with Brissett against the Saints.  There is still a shot at the playoffs.   Assuming we lose that game, start Kelly the last 2 games.  There is no downside.   It gives the fans what they want.  It gives the coaches and Ballard a look at what Kelly is.  Worst case is that we lose both games and gain draft position.   It's not tanking.    If Kelly doesn't get some playing time, I think we go into next season with Jacoby as the starter and Hoyer as the back up again.  They signed Hoyer to a 3 year $12 million contract with $9 million guaranteed.
    • One of two things will happen with Luck. He'll either return next year (I can see Irsay making a plea to him based on our QB position and so we don't have to draft a QB) or he'll stay permanently retired. This is a perfect chance for him to return where INDY and the fanbase will welcome him back with open arms. It's next year or never for Luck.
    • Another wide or TE! Why? JB would not throw the ball to them unless it was to late! JB is to timid. He's scared to fail. Therefore, we have to have another QB. If we don't, i believe it will be major mistake. Oh, for all of you JB hine kissers, if you don't like threads like this don't read them. I don't care what you dislike! If you can't see the weakness in JB then ....... WOW!
