I also think AV's reliability comes into play on that decision.  If you think that he is money on a reasonable-distance FG, then it makes sense.  If you think that there is a decent chance that he misses a FG, though, then I think it makes more sense to just punt.

Yeah, there were a lot of better ways to do that than the way they did it.  Unless they were maybe looking at the possibility of running a play out of the punt formation and told the punter that if it's not there, then just take the safety.
