Malik Hooker practicing in pads today and other key health updates

I am shocked that Desir and Moore went back into that KC game and still can’t practice after having a bye week. Hopefully this just means they are getting more treatment instead of practicing. Desir would be huge if he can’t go against Hopkins. We would miss Kenny blitzing. That would mean we would be down to rock and Wilson with Taylor playing the slot. If they don’t play that greatly reduces the chances of winning with the Texans weapons.

Friday will be the key practice to watch, for sure.  Think they're probably just getting maximum rest.

I agree that no Desir and no Moore would be bad news.

On the flip side, if Hooker can play, that is tremendous news.

I think I Moore will go. He looked pretty upbeat and laughing on walkers Ig and his lockeroom interview earlier in the week. Desir I think is the one I am most concerned with not playing. He has been playing on that bad hamstring rather then sitting out a game.

Goodness... Pierre and Kenny are two HUGE ones. I wouldnt worry too much with Houston and Ebron.

Houston did his usual Thursday locker room interview. It seemed he will be ok. I think this would of been a typical rest day anyway. Ebron was just sick. If Moore and desir don’t go our corners are Rock, Wilson, Tell and Taylor. That could be ugly against Watson and those weapons. Hopefully they are just maximizing rest. I think Desir might have a bigger chance of not playing then Moore. He has been playing on that hamstring a few games.

When Moore and Desir went out that KC game Reich said if they couldn’t go back in we would of had to play a very basic vanilla defense. If we have to do that Sunday we could be in trouble. We confused Watson last year. We haven’t seen a corner signed or called up yet so hopefully that is a good sign they are playing.

Desir isn't as good as last year.

Whether Desir is as good as last year or not, he's still one of our best options. IMO, we need Houston, Hooker, Desir, Kenny, and maybe even Geathers to beat Houston. We can't afford to be thin, our deep secondary allows us to be more dynamic and makes it a lot harder for BOB and Watson to figure us out.

That bad hammy has to be bothering him.  He has definitely regressed.  PFF season grade currently sitting at a woeful 52.7.

Moore hasn't been as strong either, grading out at a 64.2.

Wilson: 43.1 (yikes)

Ya-Sin: 61.5

Overall, it's been a rough year for the CBs.

2 of the safeties, on the other hand, have been quite good.

Willis: 70.8 (good)

Hooker: 76.1 (good)

This is right on point. If for some reason they can’t play we are going to have to go with a very vanilla and basic scheme. Won’t be able to confuse Watson either. Losing our two starting corners in this game would be bigger then not having our safeties against KC.  Especially with the Texans offense. They spread the ball around a lot. Having Desir out means Wilson plays on the outside which limits packages and looks. If Moore can’t go we have another rookie in Taylor in the slot. So Eberflus would keep it simple.

Justin Houston, Eric Ebron added to Colts injury report

Quote

The Colts had a couple of new names on their injury report on Thursday.

Defensive end Justin Houston did not practice because of a calf injury and tight end Eric Ebron sat out because of an illness...

All those numbers go up if we just stop giving the other teams QB 20 seconds to throw.

Sometimes it’s actually the DB that cause the pass rush not to be able to get pressure. If they don’t stay on their assignment and the receiver gets to their spot quicker that gives the pass rush less time to get pressure.

Did Campbell have injury issues at OSU?

Is it too early to say bye to Lewis lol

Cant say I like OSU a single ounce. Unfortunately they churn out a ton of talent. With that, once they become Colts, I can usually come around to the players. Seems CB is fond of that pipeline but our guys are injured an awful lot. Maybe stop drafting OSU players? It just seems hard to trust them to stay on the field.

wilson probably should not be used as an outside corner.  hes like a safety that plays man coverage on certain guys

Sigh. Biggest game if the year. Nelson isn’t practicing either. He looked ill in his Locker room interview yesterday.

Couldn't find the Nelson tweet anywhere. Hopefully he gets better and plays but if not or if he's not 100% when he does, big yikes.

He looked really pale in his interview. You could tell he wasn’t right.

Desir indicates to Zack keefer early in the week he would play so we will see.

Desir will be a game time decision. Malik hooker will most likely be listed as doubtful. The important one here is Desir. If he can’t go with Moore being out to it limits the looks. We have Leonard back to spy Watson so that should help with Moore being out. Reich says he thinks we have enough bodies without calling any one up.

    • Thanks for the breakdown.   Let us do just this, if you do not mind. Look at just their last 4 games and see if you can provide stats on those. The NFL is typically a week-to-week league and a case of what have you done for me lately (thanks Janet Jackson ).   The first 2 games, they did not have Kenny Golladay and then he came back, and the results have been a close win vs Cardinals, a close loss vs Saints, a win vs Jaguars and a close win vs Falcons. I feel they are a different team with him in their line up. Thanks.
    • General Notes 1. On paper, our D should shut down their O, and on paper, their D is below average in just about ever aspect  2. On paper, our passing game should handily beat their passing D 3. On paper, our rushing O vs their rushing D is a wash, but many of the talking heads and fantasy folks love our rush O a lot more. 4. Peterson has been their bell cow, but Swift has been more productive. Swifts carries have increased the last two games, so don't be shocked to see that continue. He has 5 total TDs vs AP's 2.  5. Stafford seems to deal his passes around, with 5 different players getting between 25 and 31 targets each. 6. Stafford is coming off his best game last week, and he's won two in a row on the road. Both with good QBRs. 7. Only one bad loss (@GB) early for Detroit. Their other 2 losses were at home early to the Bears, and later to NO. Both by less than a TD. 8. Both Amendola and Golladay are top 10ish in AVG   Prediction - I just don't know what to expect from our offense. I'd love to see good balance, but could see either passing or rushing having a good day. While on paper our D should dominate thier O, I could see Stafford having a very good day if we play soft zone. I could see either team winning a close one. I'd love to see us start to look the part, and win it going away though by dominating both sides of the ball. Doubt that happens, and expect a close one. Line: Colts -3 O/U: 50.5 Colts Offense vs Detroits Defense Total Yards - #19 vs #22 Passing Yards - #10 vs #20 Rushing Yards - #28 vs #26 Points - #14 vs #20   Colts Defense vs Detroit's Offense Total Yards - #2 vs #23 Passing Yards - #2 vs #20 Rushing Yards - #3 vs #18 Points - #4 vs #15   Colts sacks allowed vs Detroit sacks #1 least (6) vs #28 (8) Colts sacks vs vs Detroits sacks allowed #18 (13) vs #17 (14) Colts QB INTs vs Detroits Defensive INTs #19 (6) vs #16 (5) Colts Defensive INTs vs Detroits QB INTs #1 (10) vs #9 (4) Colts RZ O vs Detroits RZ D #27 vs #22 Colts RZ D vs Detroit's RZ O #20 vs #18 Colts 3rd Down O vs Detroits 3rd Down D #23 vs #24 Colts 3rd Down D vs Detroits 3rd Down O #15 vs #26   Injuries.  Detroit - Starting LT (Decker), starging RB A Peterson,  and starting CB are all LP. All are questionable except for AP.   Indy -Kelly and Mo questionable. Kelly DNP, Mo was LP.   4for4 had this to say about our rush O vs their D https://www.4for4.com/2020/w8/o-line-rankings-and-matchups-exploit-week-8
    • I don't think any of the young QBs have shown enough for me to be desperate to trade for them(and if they had shown enough, they probably wouldn't be available for trade). The one that I can probably stomach us trading for(depending on price) is Darnold, but I don't think he's a surefire starter by any means, so...   In reality I prefer us draft our QB of the future. This has several advantages: - they will be cheaper for longer(rookie scale contracts are no joke... if you get a good QB on rookie scale contract you are in very advantageous position in regard to the cap... you can spend the extra cash on other areas of the team, strengthen weak spots or emphasize strengths - they come in as blank slates for the most part - they have not been scarred by horrible O-Line play(Darnold) and playcalling(Darnold, Haskins), they have not developed bad habits... our coaching staff would be the first professional coaching staff to get their hands on them and will be able to mold them in whatever way they see fit   My realistic favorite so far is Zach Wilson, BUT if we somehow are able to get into position to draft Trey Lance, I'd be pretty happy with that outcome too.
    • Wish this defense had an aggressive style more akin to Pitt.  I think they could excel.
    • And they are in the same division
