Chiefs aren't as good as people thought

I heard his test was scheduled for Noon?  That's central time, right?  Unless he went in earlier, that test would be ongoing as it is 1:22 EST as I write (12:22 CST).  This exam/imaging can take anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour from setup to getting off the table.  Then it has to read (properly) for results.

However, it would be great to here no other significant damage.  I'm not \convinced yet, though.  We'll know later.

If the followup tests/checks confirm, that is unexpectedly great news for Mahomes and the Chiefs.  If nothing else comes out within 24 hours that's different (that there is no other damage or correction needed), then I'm fully on board.

Until then, I remain... cautiously optimistic.  :)

Without surgery I don't see it healing right but i'm not a doctor either so it may and might not.

To me, from what's being reported, it sounds like they are taking a similar plan as Matthew Stafford/Lions did in 2009.  Stafford missed 4 games before returning. Then he had off season surgery at the end of the year.

I've said this before.  Mahomes strikes me as a QB that is great at improvisation, broken plays, sand lot football.  Very dangerous under those circumstances.  But put him in situations where he has to play like PM or Brady, and I'm not sure exactly how good he really is.  I don't know how precise his WRs are, and how well he would fare in a pure precision based offense...play after play after play.

If he returns in 3-4 weeks as being reported (IMO, it's too early still), we'll find out; between the ankle and knee issues, he will primarily be a pocket QB.

With Mahomes massive next contract looming, I expect he will get second opinions to be sure of doing the best thing for him.

I seen commentators mention it might be best to just bench him for the season so he doesn’t do anything more that could keep him out next season. Him missing time will be good for his ankle.

I goes beyond that, Though ankle healing is a bonus. I still think surgical correction is probably in the picture for him on that knee. But if he plays before getting it 100% right, he could suffer loss of knee cartilage on his next injury! (not saying he would, saying he could). That is permanent damage and a ticket to early osteoarthritis.

Patrick will hear all the scenarios these next few days/week, and make the decision best for him long term, I hope.

If he comes back he will probably be wearing a huge knee brace. So it’s going to hurt his game. Plus he can pop that knee out again.

Reich was asked about the QB sneak today. He said he would not put his QB in that situation if they were already injured.

No, I say definitely with a knee brace.  EDIT: great- I found an excellent Video what medical team thinks/does when faced with a dislocated patella-

Kneecap (patella), not knee. The frightening part of that, is the possibility of damaging articular cartilage in the joint (chondral defect) on a reinjury.  Here's ESPN's expert, Stephania Bell, on Mahomes kneecap issue.

She is ESPN's injury analyst; physical therapist - Board Certified Orthopedic Clinical Specialist, Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist.  I should try to remember to check her (and Dr. Chao) tweets more often.

Probably a good idea, but I still find it work to correlate a left high ankle sprain with a dislocated right patella.  But I'm sure there may be, in some fashion.

So anyway...he’s not done which means the Chiefs are not done. Matt Moore isn’t the worst backup in the world either. Meanwhile their division might be the worst division in the world. I say if Matt is doing good enough bench Pat til the Pats game lol ugh

He was never 'done' (unless you only meant for this year), but let's give him his 3-4 weeks off, then see what Mahomes/Chiefs decide to do.  It does appear they are going in the direction Matthew Stafford took in 2009 for now.

And, here it is.  Take the Poll below on Mahomes-

First, try answering it in your mind from 3 different perspectives: (I supplied mine, but you can create your own)

Player                  (I want to play, but what about my long term future...)

Head Coach        (I need him back ASAP if we are going to take it all)

General Manager  (Can I really allow him to play where if he might get hurt with a chance of articular cartilage damage, there may be long term issues to our franchise QB?)
