Most QB's do bad Vs the Jags def. I still like Watson a ton. Best QB by far now in the division.

Funny how everyone love Watson  but he holds on to the ball to long and is half the problem with getting sacked not the oline.

Neither does Brissett unless you have an all-time great defense backing him up. We can follow the Pats model all we want, but Reich is not Belichick, and Brissett is not Brady. We had a chance if Luck was playing. Brissett is a game manager with a less than elite team backing him up. We need a QB that can win against top QB's.

I love how everyone thinks they know everything about JB after two games. Geez give the kid half the season before saying how  bad he is.

Jared has a high low personality to which he's already explained to us before.  If Brissett does well in this game then Jared will get more positive.  On the flip side if he has a bad game then he'll get really negative about him.  Just how he's wired sort of.

You don’t say?  He’s better than the 6th round rookie backup, the scrub who’s about to be benched after tonite in favor of Ryan Freaking Tannehill, and the backup turned starter after real starter suddenly retired 2 weeks before the season started?  Compare him to real quarterbacks like Pat Mahomes.  He’s not in the same galaxy.  Mahomes destroyed Jax defense week 1, while Watson was helpless against it last week.

What’s hilarious is the 6th round rookie backup has superior numbers to any qb in the division.  Watson hasn’t established himself as the best of anything.

He holds the ball like Luck did. All Watson needs is someone better than B.O.B and we better hope that never happens

Watson is a borderline top 10 qb base off his play from his first 2 years with a trash coach and trash line

Thanks for this post Krunk. Jared is very honest in how he critiques players & he likes to project forward as opposed to what they might have done in the past.

You always know where he stands on athletes & I respect that. Jared isn't trying to win a popularity contest. The guy stands by what he thinks & he never runs away from heat or criticism. That takes balls. I like that.

Superior numbers?  He scored 2 td’s in garbage time vs KC’s prevent defense. Then he scored 12 points last week.  It’s more than just being about numbers.  A QB is not a receiver.  Regardless, he’s not looking bad for a rookie. I’m sure he’ll get better with time. Or D Coordinators will adjust & he’ll regress some like most QB’s do when there’s more film of them.

More than likely Jax is just superior on defense.

Yeah but they did have the advantage of playing at home. Mariota has always been easy to sack.  Factor in the Jags D at home & you get a game like this. Ironically, we looked even worse vs them last year considering we had Luck at QB.

I don't know if I'd be bagging a guy because he is a late round rookie backup--isn't there a guy drafted by the Pats who was a later round rookie backup, and he's running out of fingers to put SB rings on?

Yes, superior numbers.  Which AFC South qb has better numbers than Minshew?

Mustache man threw for only 204 yards but had 2 TD's and no INT's. Mariota threw for 304 Yards, 100 more yards and guess who won the game. Yeah Mustache's team won. Another example of why stats do not always matter. He played a Brissett type of game and got the win, that is all that counts.

He was basically Brissett in week 1 with no running game (besides one long run) and a better defense. Brissett had an even worse game week 2 and that is where my criticism comes from. We got a good result in the end, but it doesn't mean Brissett didn't play poorly.

One thing is certain - Mariota is trash.

I never wanna call any NFL athlete trash per se. However, I will acknowledge that Mariota won't be starting much longer or be in the league long even as a backup prospect.

He doesn't strike me as a motivator who can inspire guys to go into a foxhole & pull out a comeback game for the ages. I agree 100% with what you said Chad, just not your tone or how you said it my friend.

For me, Brissett bores me as a QB. Both as a player and a person. So you don't accuse me of you know what, I have said I'd trade Luck for Mahomes numerous times and have also said Wilson was as good as Luck. Just see 0 potential in Brissett, he's not even very mobile.

He's  more mobile than the average  qb.

How many wins did those superior numbers get him?  His defense got him the win tonight. & he scored 12 points last week.  With his superior numbers he must be scoring 30 a game right?  I’m more concerned with wins these days. Those are the superior numbers I want.

Off topic but your Braves look fantastic. Back on topic, I do not mind a game manager who does have a strong arm by the way as long as our run game and defense can carry us a lot. The question is, can it this season? Next season our defense may be unreal after another Ballard draft.

Thanks on the Braves, hope we can make a run in the playoffs. I hope Brissett either does amazing or terrible so we have our answer on him (preferably amazing). If we are able to build the defense even more and get a back to share carries with Mack, we may have a shot at the SB next year. We just need average QB play or better.

That seems reasonable. Is there room for growth or has JB reached his ceiling? Impossible to tell after 2 weeks yet, but I understand what your driving at Jared.

My pet peeve right now is this: Jacoby isn't polished at the podium or in the locker room when he speaks. I guess I'm just used to Manning & Luck who always knew just what to say to make fans feel confident about the direction we were heading as a squad & they always knew how to put out fires before they become fodder for journalist headlines.

Both Peyton & Andrew knew how to calm fan fears, complement teammates, & make fans feel re-assured after losses. Jacoby hasn't mastered that skill yet.

Maybe I'm expecting too much too quickly from JB. Peyton had Archie & Luck had his father Oliver. Yeah, I'm probably spoiled. I'll own that.

JB needs to get better behind the microphone though. I know; I know. Be patient SW1--Touche.

You are right on the money with this post Smoke. But then, I think about Aaron Rodgers in GB. His main criticism is that he throws a ton of balls away on purpose to keep his interception numbers down even with a much improved defense now.

With Mariota though, what's worse? Giving up too quickly on a play/live to fight another down? Or pull a Big Ben & never quit on a play?

I do agree though Mariota's body language would drive me nuts if I played on the Titans O-line. I can't lie. He just doesn't make me feel like winning matters. It's a demeanor thing from a distance that bothers me I guess.

Yet he’s talked about like he’s number 1.

id say he’s more like top 12-15.  There are numerous guys who are superior.

Wow.  If Watson is 15, then what is Brissett?  Watson is at another level.  Imagine if he had our line and Frank as his coach; kid has talent.

That is a great post and very funny. I look at guys like Mariota, Trubisky, Eli, Fitzpatrick, Flacco, Darnold - just the Jets situation, and that makes me happy we have JB lmao . Also we could be the Steelers where it would be worse, losing Ben for the year just destroyed their season.

If that post made you glad we have JB, then my intention with that post was lost on you.

Don't get me wrong, I am actually pulling for JB. I sit in front of the TV and scream when he throws a nice pass (like the one to Campbell), but he is too Mariota-ish for my taste.  Too bad, I know he is very likeable guy. Also, I hope I am very wrong about him.

Tonight's game does help put last week's win by the Colts into perspective--we barely scraped by a fairly ordinary team

Anytime, INDY can take down a division rival I'm happy. 2 points or 20 points. It doesn't really matter.

Let me ask you directly @Kangaroo: If the Titans had Russel Wilson under center right now, would you still think Tennessee was ordinary? The right QB makes a world of difference as well as playoff potential.

If Tennessee had a better field general, they would be formidable & much more dangerous/harder to dismiss or blow off.

Welcome to the Forum by the way. My response was not meant as an intimidation tactic. Just to clear the air.

Sorry, I'm so used to Manning and Luck that this is a shock to me still. It's like using an undrafted QB as your starter in Madden with good short accuracy and awareness, and bad everything else. I'm going to have to either get used to it or not watch for a year.

No need to apologize. It’s a completely different brand of football...and we will just have to see how it plays out. Going to learn a lot more with some of those upcoming games.

    • Any chance we take a OT with the 1st pick?
    • FWIW:   Today I listened to a guy from The Athletic interviewed on ESPN.   (Darren Lee). He said interviewing GMs at the combine, almost all view DeJean as a safety except two teams.  He thinks the Colts and Jags view DeJean as a corner.     I don’t know this reporter, never seen him before, so I can’t speak to his credibility.  But it sounds like he did a lot of homework.     And I appreciate your view on pro day times being reliable or not.   I’m always skeptical on pro days.  But I thought DeJean helped himself on his testing.
    • I could care less what he does. Been too long ago.
    • I’m with ya..     I'm not sure we’re going WR at 15 either.  I think we could go DE, and it’s possible we could go CB as well.   Gosh,  I love Mitchell and really like Arnold as well.  And if we trade back I would be fine with McKinstry or a DE on defense or one of the 2nd tier of WRs that could be there in the 20’s.  So many options.   I keep reminding myself, every pick could produce a surprise, because I think Ballard will have so many options to choose from.      Im also not sure Ballard will use all 7 rounds.   He finished in 5 rounds in his first draft 2017,  and he finished in 6 rounds in 2019.   Maybe he uses all 7 rounds, but I’m not confident we will.     One week from tonight.
    • My Final Mock Draft   15. Brock Bowers, TE,  6’4 245 Lbs, Georgia - Blue Chip Prospect.  Rare combination of acceleration, speed and body control. Hands-catcher operating with good coordination and technique. With Pittman on the outside Bowers will control the middle of the field and seams. AR Will develop much quicker into a top 10 QB with Bowers as his TE.  46. TJ Tampa, CB, 6’1, 190 Lbs, Iowa State - Elite physical traits. Plays with good positioning throughout routes. Very good in press Coverage and Zone. Expect him to compete in training camp and be named a starter.      82. Calen Bullock, S, 6’2 190 lbs, USC - Elite physical traits. He has the range to play single-high safety, the athleticism to line up over the slot and the ball skills to chalk up impressive on-ball production. Expect him to compete in training camp for the starting S position.    117. Tez Walker,  WR,  6’2 195 Lbs, UNC - Elite speed with very good body control. Career average of 30.7 yards on touchdown receptions. Gives us very good depth and competition with Pierce.    151. Grayson Murphy, DE, 6’3 260 Lbs, UCLA - Shows impressive quickness and change of direction to help turn speed to power as a rusher. Good depth.    191.  Keaton Bills, G, 6’5 320 Lbs, Utah - Cerebral player, quick to react to twists and stunts up front. Very good depth.
