Belichick is considered the best coach/GM combo ever..... He drafted and kept a 4th round guy over Hoyer.

That same Belichick signed Hoyer in 2009 and then brought him back in 2017.   So that means he liked him.

I was told there was a 0% chance he would clear waivers.

offensive post snipped...   -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Thanks man, I'm here working hard in my medioc

They were like he is the best QB since Joe Montana   Now they're like.

the 4th round guy was much cheaper.   They have the most seasoned qb in the league.   Tom doesn't need a veteran mentor.   Jacoby probably does.   Keeping Hoyer makes far more sense than keeping a guy that has knelt down once in a game

I agree.   The team has looked good so far this year.   You don't start an unproven rookie in our situation.   If you are the Giants and your team looks like crap and you are 0-2, then it makes sense.  If we are 6-4 and Brissett goes down for a game or 2, Hoyer gives us the much better chance at winning a game than Kelly at this point.   The ceiling is much higher with Kelly, but so is the floor.

Yep.  We’re a team with a fighting chance.  Yes, we were almost certainly hurt by Luck’s retirement.  But it doesn’t change the fact that we’ve got a lot of good pieces in place....including at QB.

We’re not the kind of team who would consider taking more risks in the present to hopefully hit paydirt for the future.

Kelly is the riskier choice at backup.  Hoyer is the safer.  And safer is better right now.

Chandler Jones? Richard Seymour? Both were some of the top defensive players in their time they were traded.

and? they obviously weren't need for him to be successful. and why would he trade JB if he was destined to be this great franchise QB when Tom was at the age he was at. if JB is as great as hes touted here there would have been a 0% chance BB trades him.

We're they going to franchise him next year?   Plus the had Garrapolo.  Guess what,   they traded him too

His career is 48 TD's and 30 INT's with an 84 QB rating.    That is awesome to have as your backup QB.

I would agree he isn't great, but he doesn't "suck".

48:30 is a BAD ratio

83.4 is his average, and that would have been good enough for like 29th or 30th in the last full year of QB passer ratings.

Well they did have jimmy and at that point i dont think belichick thought he was going to be forced to trade him

Who cares?  He isn't here to win games.   He is here as a veteran to help Jacoby.   What part of that are you struggling with?  Chad Kelly in no way can help Jacoby  prepare.   Hoyer can

Do you know why they released him. They didn’t want to release there young qb because they were afraid to lose him on waivers. They wanted to resign him.

they would not have spent a 4th round pick if they liked hoyer in the first place.

Because Belicheck also had Jimmy G at that time?

Belichick traded a mid round QB for a 1st round WR. And JB was 3rd on their depth chart at the time....

Not the same situation. at all...

I'm just saying everyone acts like we are ripping NE off when so far JB hasn't done crap and Hoyer's never will

Face it. We aren’t a high flying offense this season. Our identity is going to be a tough offense who can impose our will in the run and make passes when they are there. No turnovers. QB sneaks that get 1st downs and touchdowns.  A defense that always keeps us in the game. We really need special teams because we won’t blow anyone out. We need Vinny to be good again.

No it isn't.   That is a great ratio for a backup QB.  Heck, you want to keep Kelly who had a 2/2 ration in preseason against 3rd stringers.

There is nothing more to the story. You guys just have inflated heads when it came to him. With it being wed there is less of a chance a team takes him. He will end up on the practice squad.

That won’t stop another team was scooping him up. Any team that would want him will want him on the active roster anyways.

If Kelly signs with the jets and takes them to the Super Bowl while setting every single season nfl record and they sign him to 100 mil a year will we get a compensatory 3rd round pick?

No,   we cut him.   He wasn't a free agent.   But I will eat both of my steel toad work boots if  that happens.   I'll live stream it

Hoyer can give him tips on how to have a bad TD/INT ratio....

TD/INT only matters when it fits the narrative.

I wonder if there is a backup QB in the league with a better ratio.   Bridgwater (considered one of the best) has a 29 TD to 23 INT ratio.

Woof...I like having a defense that can increase the margin for error...but playing a bunch of coin flip games...not sure my heart can take it.

    • Not necessarily. Houston could get that third pick and draft their own. TUA wouldn’t have to be part of the trade. There is a lot of rumors Miami might draft another QB and get rid of TUA. Or if they get Watson TUA could be on the block. TUA doesn’t seem to have any special qualities. But in saying that I do think his style could fit Reichs system.  He could sit behind rivers for a year. It seems he is having the same issue that manning had as a rookie. Has to learn what is open in the nfl compared to college.
    • Bienemy will be hired by some team...he has interviewed with 6 of them. My guess would be LAC for Herbert.   I think PHI will go with Brady. That's about as fresh of a start as you can get. And you get a QB guru to help develop Hurts.   ATL hires Arthur Smith.   DET will wait until the playoffs are further along.   HOU is such a risky spot right now...no idea what they will do.
    • A lot of those guys are already signed for multiple years. Only Leonard, Smith, and Hines are going into their contract year. Nelson we have the 5th year option
    • sign Bud Dupree to a 3 year deal with a team option for a fourth year give him roughly about Trade this year’s second and next years second to move up to 12 with the niners   *I don’t know what all it will take to move up 9 spots but that seems good* 1. Trey Lance Qb North Dakota state: Mobile good decision making with an accurate deep ball should thrive in Reichs offense. 3. Brady Christensen OT BYU: Great size and movement can play left or right tackle should fit in well with our current group. 4. Trill Williams Corner Syracuse: Solid ball skills and great size can come in and compete with tell and ya sun day one. 5. Jaelon Darden WR North Texas: Great speed solid route runner good replacement for TY. 6. Tony Poljan TE UVA: Great size at 6’7 solid blocker potential to be a good receiver at the tight end position. 7. Jalen McKenzie OG/OT USC: Great size adds depth can play guard or tackle highest ceiling is as a guard.
    • The only thing we know is Lawrence will be drafted by JAC...but it's pretty easy to see what happens ; )   #1 - QB #2 - QB (NYJ trade back to a QB needy team OR take one)   Top 2 QBs are off the board...then it gets crazy.   #3 - QB (if MIA trades back) or Sewell  #4 - QB (draft a QB if Sewell goes #3 OR trade back to QB needy team) #5 - Sewell (if QB goes at #3) or QB (trade back) #6 - WR Smith/Chase #7 - WR Smith/Chase #8 - Pitts or CB   Yes...unless Sewell goes at #3...the first 4 are QBs. And if he does go #3...then the rest of the top 5 are QBs.   The problem is the lack of top 5 non-QB talent...especially with players opting out and the lack of a Combine.    A team could go for Chase or Smith in the top 5...but I think they will both go right after the top 5. Pitts won't get drafted over a QB. Surtain probably isn't a top 5 player. Parson and Rousseau opted out...so I doubt a team takes a risk on either that early (in lieu of a QB or a trade back).   How does this affect the Colts? It means they will have to trade up to #2-3 to get their guy. It would be incredible and scary all at once.
