Okay, I get it.  And I'm certainly not defending Brown, and I'll eventually end up on the losing side of the issue..  All I'm saying is that the immediate reason for his imminent termination appears to be his personal conduct towards one person, the GM, and not so much the past incidents which were deterimental to the team. He may, in fact, have a legitimate grievance to file with the NFLPA for Mayock escalating it into a $30M fine.

I guess if I'm Mayock, I would hold my ground in calling for the fines I originally imposed for missing time, and any other future fines should be consistent and be based upon missing time.

But the new fines were more about how Brown responded to the original fines.  I see that as unnecessary escalation of the situation by Mayock.  And a nut job like AB sin't going to back down from an escalation.

I like Gruden's response to the helmet issue.  Said something like "as far as I'm concerned, AB can play the game without a helmet."  Sort of makes the point that its an NFL rule that everybody has to follow, but also de-escalates the situation (and even strokes ABs ego a bit).

And we don't know anything else.  Maybe AB has put himself under pressure to earn a high profile contract with a new team and can't handle it any other way than being combative with authority.

Let him play.  If he scores three TDs with a new team and QB, his outlook on things might change.  I wouldn't fire him before he's even played a real game.

Too late.  They cut him

Or more likely is that Gruden and Mayock together agreed it WAS a Necessary step, and that they got the response they were Hoping for. And the ability to dump the sorry _____!

LOL. Well, it was obvious I was going to lose this one.

I guess to sum it up, AB apparently gets triggered by the appearance of even the slightest bit of authority over even the most trivial things.  Maybe that's how he handles pressure.

Hypothetically as a GM, I don't think the proper response to someone like that is to continually be more authoritative towards him, but I'm in the huge minority on this.

Yesterday he stood in front of the cameras and mics and apologized to his team mates and the organization. This morning I turn on ESPN and he has written he wants to be released. Other than the question of his mental well being what team would dare touch this guy now? Certainly he should never be offered guaranteed money.

Why would you be for that?

Was his remark a CK fan boi type attitude?

He'll go to the Patriots, Belichick will bippity boppity boo his problems away, and then it's 2007 all over again with a slightly different ending.

How much guaranteed money is Kraft willing to part with?  it's the gtd $ Brown is after... period.

JJ would be a better bet...

Hypothetically, even considering the NFI (frostbite) and Helmet tantrums, if you let one player slide (not pay fines or incur other punitive measures) for missing some training camp / missing some practices / walkthroughs / or team meetings they should not have missed, what prevents other players following suit?  Situations like these do not call for rules for some but not others.  AB thinks there should be (and he is excused) and crossed the line in the sand.

I’m thinking he goes to Houston

With the moves that BoB has been making lately, I wouldn't rule it out..

If there was ever a time for collusion in the NFL, now is it. The guy is showing major signs of mental instability and really shouldn't be signed to anyone until he gets evaluated and help.

I understand setting precedence that could impact the rest of the team.

But that assumes a certain amount of players have similar personalities as AB.  They would have to be the type who wouldn't: accept having to follow instructions about oxygen therapy, accept routine meeting schedules, accept helmet rules that were designed for their own protection, and who would call their boss a cracker to his face.

I would have no worries at all that if I stopped fining AB dead in my tracks, it wouldn't give the green light for other players to start being disruptive.

How many players skip attending regular team meetings?  Do most players attend because they will be fined if they don't, or do they attend because its what they are supposed to do.  I  assume the NFL isn't populated with a bunch of lazy low-lifes who try to get paid despite not showing up for work.

This is simply a bizarre situation that was exacerbated by a GM who could not act out of the box towards addressing a player who was obviously some sort of one-off Martian.

I'm saying this from the perspective of letting him play a few games....get some success with his new team and environment to get whatever monkey he's carrying off of his back....to see if he settles down.

Of course you get more authoritative. He's not a kid. This is the point in his life, with his behavioral outbursts, where ultimatums are the only option. Clearly he's been taking advantage of the lack of disciplinary actions against him and Oakland just called his bluff. Good on Oakland.

I'll bet at least a dollar that his emotional development is similar to a kid.  Most players in the locker room are farther along and would see the difference.

Look, Zeek Elliott doesn't show up because he's making a cognitive decision that he needs to earn money to protect himself against injury or the next college stud that would take his job.  That's a rational decision where a team could take rational disciplinary actions.

AB is fighting a basic helmet rule, and looking for stupid ways to commit tantrums.  There is nothing adult about it, and you can't discipline him in the same way as you would discipline the 52 adults in the locker room, IMO.

    • https://www.stampedeblue.com/2024/4/1/24118330/i-pity-the-fool-mock-draft     Trade Colts 2nd round (440)   For   Packers pick 58 and 91 (456)   Packers select Zach Frazier C West Virginia 6'2 314lbs Logic: Packers replace Jon Meyers who gave up 5 sacks and had a pff grade of 55.8   Colts trade pick 58 and Kwity Paye   For   Saints Marshon Lattimore CB 27 years old and a conditional 2025 4th (depending on snaps could be 3rd) From Over the cap The team trading for Lattimore would take on his contract as is. They would have the decision to either pick up the option to defer the cap charges or to simply take all of the hit in 2024. Here is the cost on the cap if the team picks up the option in the contract:   Year Salary Cap Charge Dead Money 2024 $15,000,000 $12,000,000 2025 $18,000,000 $0 2026 $18,500,000 $0 2027 (void) $0 $0 Lattimore has no guaranteed money in his contract after 2024 so there is nothing that would lock a team into him beyond this year. Colts Logic: We wanted some experience in the secondary. We wanted a shutdown corner. So we give the Saints a offer they can not refuse. In the first 2 rounds we address most of our defensive woes. Saints Logic: Saints are switching to a 4-3 defense this year and just let Michael Thomas walk. They have always been cap wizards but this may be the year to start a new with the changes listed above. Lattimore has only played 17 games these past two seasons and even though he's a top 12 CB when healthy he has been dinged up. Kwity Paye can start at DE until Chase Young is healthy.
    • Ballard should have never cut him. I want Ogletree on the team as well considering charges were dropped (I believe), but his whole fiasco with his fiance where battery might have been involved was way more of a sensitive topic and understandable of being cut for than Rodgers friend betting 1k on his account on a Colts run stat over/under. That's the worse thing Rodgers was found guilty of, and now we have Colts fans trying to convince themselves we need a RD1 CB pick after 3 were chosen in last year's draft...    He did a podcast detailing what he bet on with Franklin and Speed in case others haven't seen it. Much ado about nothing imho and it's obvious the locker room still like him/didn't think he was negatively trying to affect the outcome of games, and they would know best on that over anyone.
    • Yeah... I don't buy it... BUT... if there is someone you might have to take seriously about something like that... it's Jeremiah. Remember how he absolutely killed that last mock with predicting the exact trade and exact picks for the Texans? Lets see if he has similarly good sources on the Colts...
    • There're a couple of things that seems off about this to me.   1) The Colts moving up in the 1st. 2) Moving up for a CB after Ballard just spent the pre-draft presser complementing the CB group.
    • What he “projects” and what he would play are two completely different things. Idk why people sleep on DeJean, he’s going to surprise a lot of people wherever he ends up going. The kid is a DAWG.
