Not that this points to anything bad for Kelly, I mean I figured we'd be bringing in a vet to play back up for the first 2 games, but for some reason I can't shake the feeling they might not have confidence in Kelly as a back up. Obviously not because of his on field play, because that's been about as good as it can get, but possibly the off field stuff (even though by all accounts he's been behaving well here).

Irsay has been burned before

He probably has nightmares about Art Schlicter(sp?) and Jeff George

Troy Aikman still looks like he can play haha , he does still look 40. I would take him over those other QB's. I am joking but that is how bad those QB's are we are bringing in. Jacoby isn't Luck but he will do ok if our O.Line plays like it did last year.

The move If made will not be to replace JB but to provide insurance

You keep 3 QBs and cut a bottom of the roster player

That's the direction I would go.  The guy that I think would make sense is Hoyer.  Maybe the Pats would be interested in Travis in a straight swap or maybe one of our WR's say Pascal.  I think Hoyer would be a nice backup as we see how the season goes with Brissett and Kelly as our main two guys.

Man have fans ever become negative, hand wringers.

Is support for the team you follow only there, when one is confident things will be good?

First, some fans trash Luck, then they trash the back up and severely trash his back up, then they trash the interviews for possible additions. Is it so hard to give the next guy up support online?

Ever experience the personal benefit of a positive vibe without having it proven to you first?

I'm excited about Brissett and Kelly, to me, those are higher likelihoods of being good than any of the others.

Here is the thing they are looking for a guy to hold the fort down for two weeks until Kelly is back because Walker isn’t good enough.

They don’t expect these guys to challenge Jacoby for the starting job, heck I don’t think they expect them to challenge Kelly for the long term backup job.  They just want one of them to be better than Walker.

They just need someone that can play in break glass emergency situation.  Odds are that’s a seasoned vet like these guys are that can pick up a limited playbook quickly.

This . . . I have to think the plan at least for this season is Brissett with Kelly as the backup.  But we need a backup until Kelly's suspension is over.  And Walker is just absolutely terrible.

Absolutely! Ya’ll are sleeping on Kelly.

No we aren't. We realize his talent. We also realize he's a major character concern that could get arrested tomorrow... you kelly fangirls are sleeping on that fact.

And the little fact that, you know, he's been for an entire 3 months.. I'm sure he'll step in looking like Mayfield and Mahomes, like some of the brilliant posters on here are saying. Consider me sleeping.

Just why would you not care if the Colts win a single game under any circumstance?

As a Colts fan I want the Colts to win every game no matter who the QB is.

Because our franchise qb just walked out the door... If our only true option of winning goes down (and we aren't even sure if JB is that...) why would I want to blow a good chance at drafting our guy next year? Why would anyone here want that? I have high doubts that we can win with Chad Kelly and for sure with Brock Osweiler and the laughing stock of jokers we are entertaining at backup. That speaks volumes to me on how Ballard and company view Kelly. It's not great.

I think this roster is very good. But we also don't know yet what flaws Andrew covered. It could be pronounced this season...

I never want to see the Colts lose. But I never dreamed we would be in this situation. I'm hoping for the best this season, and I think JB could be the guy. But we can't assume or expect that.

I don't have the faith in Kelly that others here do, until he proves he can win a football game in this league.

And what gives you any faith in Brissett? He's 5 - 12 in the 17 games he's started and 13 touchdowns against 7 interceptions in 23 the games in which he has played.

Don't get me wrong, I hope Brissett leads the Colts to a deep playoff run, but he hasn't shown me enough to prove anything.

Because he's played the game... He won 4 with a god awful roster. So I have a bit of faith he can win with this team. He's been with this team for 2 years. He's worked with the #1's all offseason. He played very well against a Browns 1st team this preseason...  He's a high character guy that will lead this team the right way. He will have struggles. But as long as he stays true and manages the game without trying to be a hero, he will do fine...

Kelly? He's been here 3 months. He's suspended the first two games. He's been arrested multiple times. He's chased porn stars on social media. He has a reputation to get in check, as one more slipup and he's probably never on a roster again. QB's are held to a higher standard than others in this league...

Kelly's also played this preseason against a whole bunch of undrafted guys that won't ever play a down in this league... so I reserve judgment until I see him in an actual NFL game. I think he's talented. CLEARLY he is talented. We are all watching. He deserves a chance to be on this roster. Does he deserve to be this teams qb like some are calling for? Absolutely and unequivocally big fat NO.

Exactly. Painter was the worst decision that Polian and son made while being the GM of this team.

I heard it was all a mixup.

They were renovating the dome around draft time.  Irsay was not happy with the progress and yelled "get a PAINTER!" To a contractor.

Down the hall , they were sure they heard "get PAINTER!"

So they did.

Also, I wonder how he's been in the QB room in terms of learning the playbook/watching tape. If he is struggling there that could be another reason they don't end up riding with him as the back up. Again though, bringing in veteran QB's for a workout doesn't mean anything bad for him, it's just a feeling I have.

That’s a very valid point and another reason they will probably carry three with a fourth on the PS because they might have to cut Kelly at moments notice.  Hopefully not.  I’d like to see any kid with that kind of talent get his life turned around.

I didn’t trash Luck and I like Jacoby but even I look at this list of names and get it but I hope they never see the field because they have proven not to be that good.
