Luck Retires/ The timing of it all... (merge)

He's completely shafting the team and the fans.

He doesn't owe us anything, but we also don't owe him anything either.

The timing of this couldn't have been any worse.

Low blow, imo.

Bro, look at how fragile the fans are. They cant even take their favorite player retiring. They come unglued. Now imagine those weak minded *s had to actually play a game that is horrific for your health, and have the weight of an entire city on their shoulders and imagine how quickly they would fold.

He cant "not owe you anything" and shaft you.

That's impossible.

He is leaving a lot of money on the table. I'm sure he has his reasons. And to expect someone to go thru an NFL season and risk his long term health for a bunch of spoiled babies who look for any reason to tear someone down? No thanks.

Personally Im about over pro sports altogether. The fans are ridiculous and think their % dont stink.

So Luck just decided this? Lots of nonsense spewed this entire TC...from multiple people in this org. Pretty difficult to trust them again.

It sounds like social media knew about this before 99% of the organization.

Don’t know if this has been said, but Luck was boo’d as he walked off the field, and if what it being reported is accurate, then rightfully so.

Yes he was boo'd.  I watched the game tonight and saw it happen live.

You can argue he owes it to his teammates but he owes fans nothing.  Sorry I know fans like to think that players and teams owe us something but they don’t.

No but he shouldn’t have lied and drug fans along. “I’m fully expecting to play week 1” what a joke

Colts future prospects nose diving.  Brissett is just middling at best.   Probably will finish .500 which puts them out of reach of any respectable QB which means more mediocrity.  Lucas Oil about to get empty.

Also, could’ve drafted a QB in last year’s loaded class.  Darnold could be a Colt now.  Luck absolutely screwed the Colts retiring a year later

Right about Sam, but Ballard got smug and traded down.

Peyton will always be one of my top 5 players of my life but (to me at least ) Peyton will always be second to Johnny U ( I fell in love with him when I was 10 years old )

That’s fine but it’s hard to argue you’ve been waiting for 50 years for another QB when you had Peyton Manning in there.

Lmao the irony. Quit idolizing these athletes. They aren't any better than any of us. A quitter is a quitter.

For as complicated as this apparently is, some of this is simple.

If Luck's injury was significant (e.g., season-ending), most people will support him.

If the injury is not significant, most people are going to be furious that he waited this long.

The guy played thru a lacerated kidney for the fans.

He battled back from the shoulder thing, for the fans.

He has always been a class act.

And tonight the fans booed him and hurled insults at him as he walked off the field.

Its shameful how people act.

BREAKING NEWS: Andrew Luck realizes that retiring from the NFL is actually more mentally draining and a much bigger threat to his health, and is unretiring effective immediately.

You'll be downvoted to hell because people idolize athletes.  But this is the truth. If you don't have the passion the time to quit was 4-5 months ago.

The fact he came into camp and wasted everyone's time by regurgitating his passion for the game and other nonsense is low.

As I tell my kids in sports. If you commit it's done. It's a "commitment".  After the season you can always reassess and stop or keep going. But once you are in then you give it everything you got. Same with your job, your school, your marriage everything.

Quitters are what they are.

Doing right by you is never a wrong choice.

Luck did not hurt anybody. He is doing what is best for him.

He owes it to his teammate and his fanbase to not screw the team and the fans a couple of weeks before the season.  This was not a snap decision made by him.  Quitting has been on his mind and he should have quit when it first crept into his mind.

I agree....of course many will virtue signal and tell us what lousy fans we are because we expect our franchise player to be responsible and fulfill their obligations to the team and their team mates! Quitting because you are mentally worn out is not something you decide on the spur of a moment! We were angry at the way McDaniels did the team for the same reason...of course he has the right to do what is best for him and his family, but we don't have to admire him for it....and I don't!

He doesn't owe it to teammates or fanbase. Players are free to retire whenever they want. Just like teams can cut and trade players whenever they want. Go ask Peyton Manning how he felt when the Colts got rid of him and if the Colts owed him anything.

Circumstances are not always ideal if life including sports...you just have to deal with it. It's not ideal timing, it would have been better if this happend in the spring but it didn't. Life goes on.

Ballard and Jimmy behind the 8 ball like last year with Josh jilting them. Had Sam at draft 3, but thought Luck was going to be around for years. You just don't pass up QBs

Tell that to the fans who have spend thousands of dollars on tickets and airfare to come see him play.  Without fans there are not teams and no million dollar paychecks.  He absolutely owes it to us NOT to screw the franchise right before the season starts.

I'm not upset that he's walking away.  I'm upset with the timing.  He knew before today that retirement was a possibility and he should have left with that first inclination.

I've spent a lot of money on season tickets so yes, I am upset!

The Colts still might be good enough to win the AFC South even without Luck.  You never know...JB and Kelly could have them competitive with the overall talent that Ballard has built up on both sides of the ball.   As long as we have Chris Ballard...the Colts franchise will get through this gut punch.

History repeats itself for the Colts.

Just as Bert Jones followed the great John Unitas but had a relatively short career with injuries, so Andrew Luck follows the great Peyton Manning but has a relatively short career with injuries.

I think I was blocked for a few minutes but what I said before I left because I bet this new marriage had something to do with this. I know he's been injured but he's an NFL quarterback and paid hundreds of millions of dollars to do so. This is no time to do this especially how they announced it

Why would Luck "announce" this in the middle of a game? I know he aint playing just sounds like something hed publicly announce first

He didn't announce this in the middle of the game.

The news leaked in the middle of the game.    Big difference.

He told Irsay BEFORE the game.

    • Dallas won't let him go.  They traded a 1st round pick for him and even if he isn't worth it, Dallas would still resign him
    • Sorry 2006, but you get 4 Pinocchios :-). Lawrence's true freshman year was a lot better than Luck's redshirt freshman year, and sophomore years are shaping up to be very similar, which Lawrence has at least 2 games to go (the numbers include bowls for both)   Keep in mind Lawrence is only a true Soph, and Luck took a redshirt (so he had a year advantage in learning the system, and the stats below).   Here's their comparative stats.   Frosh Year Lawrence 65%, 3280 yards, 8.3 avg, 30/4 TD/INT ratio, 157.6 PR Luck (red shirt) 56%, 2575, 8.9 avg, 13/4, 143.5 PR   Soph Year (Lawrence's soph year isn't done yet) Lawrence 69%, 2870 yards, 9.1 avg, 30/8, 171.5 PR Luck 70%, 3338 yards, 9.0 avg, 32/8, 170 PR
    • Right there with you brother. They’re the last team I’d want to see in the playoffs...
    • Stats farther below   Quick Summary - Buc's O vs Colts D Passing - The Bucs have the 4th most passing yards per game in the league while we're the 11th best defending the pass. Winston is a bit hobbled, gets sacked a lot, and throws the most INTs in the league. They have a bottom 10 OL, and will be missing their starting RG. Their best WR is a bit hobbled. Rushing - They are not the best rushing team (22nd), and Winston shouldn't be much of a running threat either with his knee.    Quick Summary - Buc's D vs Colts O Passing - One the worst passing Ds (31st) vs one of the worst passing Os (26th). TB blitzs more than most teams in the NFL, yet aren't very successful in pressuring the QB and average in INTs. It's really all about containing Suh. While not starters, TB has hobbled #2 rotational DBs. Will we see Campbell back and will he torch a very bad group of DBs? Rushing - 4th best rushing O meets 2nd best rushing D. If we rush well tomorrow, I'll be surprised given they are already good, and will likely do everything they can to make JB beat them. I'd hate to see Mack get hurt trying to come back quickly.   The Bottom Line Indy should win the game regardless of injuries. TB is near the worst passing D in the league, and our guys will be open. The only question is will JB see them. Given we should be limited in the running game, it's another great opportunity (3rd in 3 weeks) for JB to crush a horrible pass D. On D, Winston and their #1 WR are a bit hobbled, and we should not have too much problem keeping him in check even without Moore. I could see both Sack and INT success tomorrow.    Prediction - I expect the Colts D to hold TB to 24 or under, and could see our guys getting some picks and sacks. I have zero idea what to expect on O. JB should have a career day.. but..., should have done better the last two weeks vs bad pass Ds. If Mack and/or the other RBs have success tomorrow, then WOW vs a very good run D.    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Top Five Bolded Blue' Bottom Five Bolded Red Injured Starters Bolded Green   Buc's Offense 5th in total yards per game  4th in passing yards per game  22nd in total rushing yards per game  4th in total points per game  13th in Red Zone Offense %  32nd best in INTs thrown  24th best in sacks taken  Out - Cappa G, Miller WR, Logan RB Questionable  -  Banged up  - Godwin WR (shin) - was FP, Winston QB (knee) - was FP VS Colts Defense 13th in total yards per game allowed  11th in passing yards allowed  9th in rushing yards allowed  11th in points per game allowed  9th in Red Zone Defense %  18th best in INTs  17th best in sacks  26th in blitz % (23.3%) 18th in QB hurry %  17th in total QB pressure % (22.2%) Out - Moore CB/N,  Questionable  - Hooker S (Foot), Ya-Sin (ankle) Banged up  -      Buc's Defense 17th in total yards per game allowed  31st in passing yards allowed  2nd in rushing yards allowed  29th in points per game allowed  13th in Red Zone Defense %  16th best in INTs  14th best in sacks  2nd in blitz % (43.3%) 29th in QB hurry %  25th in total QB pressure (21.5%) Out - Nelson OLB Questionable  - Dean CB (shoulder) - was FP, Steward DB (knee) - was FP Banged up  - Pierre-Paul OLB (knee) - was LP VS Colts Offense 19th in total yards per game  26th in passing yards per game  4th in total rushing yards per game  17th in total points per game  8th in Red Zone Offense %  16th best in INTs thrown  10th best in sacks taken  Out - Hilton WR Questionable  - Banged up  - Mack RB (hand) - was FP, Alie-Cox TE (thumb) was FP, Campbell WR (hand) was FP,
    • Great news I'd rather have Hooper for the other tight end. With Cox also around, we wouldn't need to draft a tight end this year or probably next. I wonder how early is too early to extend Leonard and Nelson - it will probably get more expensive every year.
