With Luck out of the Picture...

Recommended Posts

Should we start looking to move some of our older players who no longer fit in the teams timeline? I feel that it’ll be another couple years at least before we are seriously playoff contenders again, unless Brissett totally blows the doors off and kills it. I think AC, as much as we all love him, might garner a 1st round pick from a team like the Texans or the Seahawks, or another team that needs better O-Lineman. Sheard might also garner us a decent pick. The only older player I’d say we should hold on to for sure is Hilton, because he’ll be the mentor to his successor Paris Campbell. Would you guys be down to make some moves now, potentially stockpiling picks for the next year or two and grabbing our next franchise QB in potentially 2021 with Trevor Lawrence. I’m that regard, it would be building the team before getting the QB, which has worked out well for many many teams

Not yet. We wait and see how Jacoby does first. No need to blow up a solid roster because of one pansy

With Ballard's current drafting success, I don't see us in a position to get Lawrence in 2 years. Plus that's a long way out. I don't think anyone was ready to be back looking for a QB for another 5 years at least... but it does bring its own excitement to the offseason.

Sure, I see where you are coming from, but even last year, Luck was a big part of the reason we went to the playoffs and won a game. He's super talented, and without him I think this team with Brissett will push for 7 or 8 wins at best per season. Trading away these players and losing Brissett next year, we would have tons of draft capital and could fill our holes before 2021, where I think we can tank for the first pick and get a super talented QB with a stacked young roster to take us to the promised land.

I was listening to some Houston reporter on the radio and he said the Texans are trying to trade Clowney for a starting left tackle...  so yeah... AC for Clowney might make some sense if we are going full on youth movement, but I kind of doubt it.

In the process, we would be creating even MORE holes.

then we have to pay JC, while looking for a QB and LT.  the trade would help them more than us

Yeah, you might be right, but we will have to pay AC after this season too...

I'm sitting here remembering the Rex Ryan Jets with good defense and Sanchez at quarterback. My point we are better than that team and they made two deep playoff appearances as well as a afc championship

    • I'd bench both Cooks and Mattison, and play Hunt and Guice.   Mainly because Baker has a sore thumb, so I think he will check down to Hunt a lot vs the Bengals, plus Chris Thompson is out and hence Guice will be more involved in a game vs Packers who should score better than the Panthers thus reducing Adrian's impact. I have a good feeling that the combination of Hunt and Guice will give you the SAME production as the combination of Cooks and Mattison.
    • PFF is what it is...but using their criteria...it’s hard to argue with that ranking...or at least somewhere in that area.
    • Yeah...JB is a good dude...but when people say they feel bad for him...I can’t help but laugh a little. He luckboxed into a starting QB job and then got a one-year $28M extension before even playing a snap.    I understand their reasons for doing it...but I wish they hadn’t. But since they did...I hope they take advantage and bring in a rookie to groom.
    • @chad72, @Jared Cisneros   From Fantasy Pros: We're not likely going to know Cook's status and how much he'll play until Sunday, and even then, there's likely going to be smoke and mirrors. Cook did say he'll play in that game, but if you remember last year like I do, you remember him saying a similar sentiment before their game with the Rams where he went out and re-injured himself, then missed four weeks. ...   Cook should be locked into lineups as an RB1 but if the Vikings pull out front early, he's likely finding a warm spot on the bench. Mattison is more of a play if you're betting on the Vikings blowing the Lions out in order for the Vikings to rest Cook in the second half. That's always risky to count on, though if there were one game you could rely on it more than others, it's this one.     Here's my thinking:  Do I think both Cook and Mattison will outscore TD dependent Hunt?  If so, then should I not play both of them in my lineup over Hunt or even Guice (whos only had 4 targets through the past 3 weeks)?   Heck if I had to choose just one, I am leaning towards Mattison over Cook. Typically if the Vikings are leading in the 4th, Mattison takes over.  In this situation, logic dictates that Mattison will be spelling Cook throughout the game, and will likely take over entirely come 4th qtr (or sooner) if the Viking's have the lead.  I know it sounds crazy, but it also makes sense.
    • Philip Walker was also shifty and elusive while in college, but a much better passer.
