T Bridgewater and Eli Manning?

U wat mate?

Just no.

I would much rather go with a Chad Kelly and go with someone willing to PLAY AND BE HERE and perhaps draft someone in 1-2 years rather than go with a retread on a team that imo is still not ready.

With Luck this team was a super bowl VERY fringe contender.  Without him?  No shot.  So why waste the time on a retread?

Just the thought of someone like Eli Manning or TB on the team makes my skin crawl.

The thing with Briskett, is he was playing with 5-7 step drops on most plays, and was behind one of the WORST OLs ever assembled

Does anyone else remember how much he was hit? (again, and again.......)

He seems primed for improvement with this quick release, short pass offense

I do wonder if his actual release is fast enough, he has (at least had) a bit of a windup)

He also would only throw fastballs (2017), without any touch.  He hit receivers all right, but still seemed to throw hard and fast, even if the receiver was only 3 yards away.  At least 1/3 of the drops were because they overpowered recievers.  Of course, it might have been because he was running for his life.....

I am amongst those who believe that based on pure talent, Kelly is better than Brissett. (waaay better). He's been showcasing his talent ever since he's been entered the NFL last summer. He turned heads in Denver as well, just like here in Indy.

You might be among several on this forum, but you are in the minority (largely) overall throughout the league and football in general... at every level. Brissett was the 3rd best qb in his highschool class (75 overall). Kelly 5th best dual threat (180 something). Brissett was rated better from a draft standpoint with good size and a big nfl arm. Kelly had several knocks but made big plays and took gambles downfield that teams were intringued by. We don't know much about Kelly yet, and don't get me wrong, I like the guy. I just think it is ludicrous to think he's more talented let alone way more talented... And if you are comfortable with going from Andrew Luck to a guy that just joined the roster, that threatened to spray a nightclub in Buffalo up with an ak-47, that chased pornstars on social media, that walked into a strangers home incoherent... over JB who is as high character as they come and is BELOVED by this locker room. Then by all means, you have me stumped.

First and foremost, I hope JB does great. If he does, everyone will forget about Kelly. Second, Kelly's behavioral history is a legitimate concern. So far, per Reich, he's been a model citizen and is working his tail off. One has to think Uncle Jim called in a favor to Reich, and I'm sure Reich and Ballard were crystal clear about behavioral expectations. And I'm pretty sure Kelly knows he won't survive another bad choice.

All that said, if we're talking about talent and performance..... Forget about HS and look at college. HS ratings are almost meaningless. Brissett went to Florida, but couldn't beat out Jeff Driscol, who in turn eventually lost his starting to another guy who also lost his starting job... In short, JB struggled against competition that wasn't strong. He then transferred to NCSt and played in 2014 and 2015. Wasn't bad, but wasn't great either. Besides wins vs non D1 chump teams and a few mediocre ACC teams, they didn't fair to well. Both years he threw for 2600ish yards 20 and 23 TDs.

Kelly got booted from Clemson and ended up Ole Miss after quick stop at EMCC (during his "sit-out" year". At EMCC he threw for almost 4000 yards and 47 TDs. At Ole Miss in 2015, Kelly beat 4 top 25 SEC teams, including Bama in Tuscaloosa. He also led them to a 5th top 25 win in their bowl game. That year he had 4000+ yards and 31 TDs vs SEC defenses. The next year wasn't as kind to him (torn ACL) but his numbers were good prior to his injury.

From a pure numbers perspective, Kelly had way more yards, more TDs, more yards/attempt, better completion %, and a higher passer rating. He also had better rushing numbers. All against much better SEC competition. In short, Brissett couldn't win the job in the SEC East and couldn't win any big games in a mediocre ACC. Kelly had great results in a better SEC West. Given all that, it's not surprising that many think Kelly has the higher ceiling and is more talented.

Nope, Colts won't take his contract... and he doesn't to be compared to his brother here. End.

Eli to the Colts for 2 draft picks .

Eli and you give Colts 2 draft picks?  Ballard will think it over...  Oh! you mean give Giants 2 draft picks?  OK, a 2020 conditional 7th. and a 2021 conditional 7th.  Maybe...

Duly noted, and archived. Kelly progress/career will be followed.

I'd let Jack by get his chance.  If he stumbles, bring in Kelly to whip it around.  I uope Jacoby pans out, but his body language bothers me sometimes (i wasnt a fan of Luck's "aw shucks" thing either.)   When Jacoby's down, its too obvious for me. I havent seen a lotng-term , big-contract franchise QB from him yet.

Kelly, on the other hand, passes my eye test AND i like his attitude on the field.  He looks confident, comfortable, and in control of the whole offense.  I dont know of his previous play, but in the little i've seen him, call me intrigued.  Top-tier arm, quick, smart.  i even saw him throw a few "mahomes type" side-arms around defenders.  Im excited to see what he may develop into.  I seecBaker Mayfield when i watch Kelly:  similar demeanor, similar skillset, similar attitude.  I like what i see.

(full disclosure: Blake Bortles passed my eye test when he was drafted so.......)

Unless Jacoby looks like an all-pro, or signs a "reasonable" deal, I could see Kelly leading us next year or even later this year if Jacoby struggles.

No matter what happens, i could see a QB in the draft.  I just cant see Jacoby showing enough this tear to warrant $20+ million.  I hope im wrong.

 1.  Run with jacoby and Kelly.

2.  Draft QB (round depends on how step #1 goes)

lack of maturity / behavioral issues

was uninvited to the combine

I'm hoping Uncle Jim sat him down and set him straight.

And told him Reich is "his guy" and his friend and he better straighten out.  I also think Reichs temperament, belief system, and QBing background could be the right combination to get a hrubto the kid.  Getting cut by Denver had to cut into that ego.

If the kid is smart, and plays his cards right, he may be leading one of the top teams in the league  dooner rather than later.

I hope he sees the amazing opportnity that just dropped in his lap.

I'm sure Uncle Jim, Reich, and Ballard have been very clear to him lol.

Pretty sure it's clear to him that his career is over with another F up.

If he plays like he did his first year at Ole Miss, the sky is the limit.

He had the 4th best QBR in the nation playing in the SEC West, and beat Bama on the road. Better QBR than Mayfeild, Mahomes, Watson, Prescott, L. Jackson, and Goff that year.

Luck retiring is such a bummer and shock.

But it happened.

For some strange reason, I'm excited for the uncertainty of the future in some ways.

Andrew was Andrew.  Theres no discounting the talent.  But the uncertainty of his health , seemingly every year,  did affect this team.  Andrew is a rare bird.  He's not a Manning, Brady, Brees type who think football 1st before everything.

I always liked an intense (but mentally stable) QB.  Someone who always looks focused.  That was not Andrew.I'm sure I'm not the only one who wanted to see him get mad on occasion.

I wish he was still our QB, and 100% healthy.  But i'll remember all the comebacks.  I'll remember all the times he got crushed in the pocket, his goofy celebrations, his apparent joy of life in general, and most importantly, how he always carried himself with class, was humble, accountable, and represented the team we love admirably and respectfully.  I wish him well whatever he chooses to do.

Also he had a torn ACL. Combination of the 2 issues.

It had a lot more to do with his off field issues. Getting uninvited to the combine is a pretty clear indication. And guys come back from ACLs all the time now. He had great numbers at Ole Miss.

Wow!

The guy looks really good in preseason, but I never realized he had a better QB rating than Baker Mayfield, Patrick Mahomes, Deshaun Watson, Dak Prescott, Lamar Jackson and Jared Goff for that one year...pretty good!

Do yourself a favor and do a little googling on his college days. In his first year at Ole Miss, he was brilliant. Beat like 5 or 6 top 25 teams, beat Bama in Tuscaloosa (he's the last QB to do that I believe), top 5 QBR nationally, and was simply a dual threat bad @$$

There's definitely some risk with him (headcase issues), but there's a whole lot of talent if he can just focus and mature. If we stay firmly in the playoff race, I'm all for sticking with JB. If we start out in the 0-3 or 1-5 range, there's not a lot of risk in making a change.

First off i'm not mad at Luck, more heart broken for him. I feel that Irsay, with his Grigson gaff, ruined what was probably going to be a hall of fame career for Luck.

Second, I like Brissett,he seems like a hard worker, good guy on and off the field. Maybe not the Special qb everyone wants, but I think he just needs a shot in the Reich system.

Third, i don't like Kelly, he seems like a guy who thinks he deserves everything, without earning it. I do not know him personally and I could be wrong, just the feeling I get. I believe if he gets a shot and starts winning, the success will boost his confidence and his ego. The ego is what i'm worried about. He seems like , the more his ego is inflated, the worse his decision making is, off the field.

As far as bringing in washed up guys to bridge, why, so we can go middle of the road at 8-8. I think we can do that with who we have now.

I don't have the answer, but i'm still excited about this season . Go Colts
