Irsay’s comments on Luck

He’s been amputated at the belly button. The guy in camp is a stunt double. When we go to SD in week 1 they’ll wheel him out on a two-wheel cart. At the snap Nelson will wheel him back behind the line and he’ll make passes from there.

We’re just being coy and trying to catch the Chargers off guard in Week 1.

Pretty brilliant when you think about it...

They will certainly catch them off guard if they show up to play in SD...amirite

The redundancy of "small little bone" just makes this news even worse.

I agree that it is frustrating, but I still find it hard to believe he misses the start of the season.

I wonder if they will issue a statement today.

This doesn’t make me think any different about game one. Because we have seen him not limping and he did look good  the three days he did practice.

I think most of us knew something else was wrong. Guess Irsay felt it was the "right" time to spill the beans. I'm less than 50/50 on him starting the season now. Unfortunate it's happening like this, as Ballard has built a great team around Luck. :(

I think everyone is just a bit overly worried. The last we heard from Reich is that he is strengthening the muscle and actively working out. We also have heard numerous times that he is throwing consistently behind the scenes and working with Tom House.

Just yesterday it was reported that someone who watched one of those private throwing sessions said Luck was throwing the heck out of the ball.

Is there an injury, yes. Is the injury going to prevent from starting week 1, no.

This is what I'm inclined to believe as well.

I occasionally have a small little bone issue too. But it's unrelated to my calf, so I won't look too much into Irsay's comments. Lord only knows what this man inteneded on saying...

If there’s someone to trust, it should be Tom House. He is the de facto go to guy.

The most important thing is Luck has been visible and isn’t limping or showing any discomfort. He is throwing and looked good in the three practices he did participate in. Irsays comments don’t change anything.

I agree, But has House said Luck will be ready week 1?  Luck has said he is "Targeting a week 1 return".... Why is House, a motion and passing guru, working so closely with Luck?  Is the calf/bone/who knows issue causing him issues in his passing too?

I was just looking that condition up. That does sound like what he might have. Good news it shouldn’t cause him to miss any time. My question is why was it not taken care of before camp.

Looks more and more like the snowboard rumor may be true.

IF that is the case, shame on Luck.  He already hurt his shoulder doing that, now this?

I'm more concerned with the O-line than Luck.

Kelly has a hard time staying healthy. Glow was an above average player last year for the first time. Smith played well but is out of his natural position.

The O-line was terrible against KC. The O line was terrible against Buff. The O-line has been sub-par in camp.

There is now a half of a year film on the Colts starting 5 for defensive coordinators to break down and find the weaknesses.......(K/C had no trouble finding them).

Even if the starting 5 over-achieve again this year, I see no quality depth behind them.

If the Colts have a disappointing  year, I believe it will be because the O-line play of last year may have been somewhat of a fluke, and it won't matter if Luck has one leg or two.

Luck working with House may just be a natural progression to his rehab for the shoulder injury from last season.  No reported information would suggest that Luck is working with him to assist with the calf injury. My guess is, Luck is working with House to continuously improve his throwing motion and would have been working with him regardless if he was dealing with the calf stuff or not.

Has anyone actually seen him lately and made sure his leg hasn’t fallen clean off Because at this point ruling anything out is foolish.

I heard he went to Europe for treatment!!!!!!!!!

The Chargers will have to forfeit because they didn’t show up. It’s the most brilliant plan we’ve ever seen orchestrated. Flawless.

The NFL is an entertainment business. They make all of their money off of "the fans". If I am going to a broadway play or a concert I have every right to be told who will be performing so I can decide how to use my time. Fans certainly have a right to know who is going to play and who is not going to play.

How does a QB hurt a small bone in his leg during the offseason?  Helping a friend move a piano?

The guy is becoming more than injury prone. Suck it up and play.

I listen to my family full of Giant fans over the last 2 weeks and at least 50 -60 percent of their conversation (and on the Giants message board also ) 50 - 60 percent of the conversation is about DB's , DT's . LB's , offensive line TE and RB . On this message board its Andrew Luck ………….Andrew Luck ……..Andrew Luck ……..Andrew Luck ……..Andrew Luck. Beginning to envy the Giants fan base .

We don’t know that they didn’t.  Just because the Colts said it didn’t doesn’t mean it didn’t show something.   It’s been well established that the Colts aren’t obligated to tell us everything about injuries and that’s been my point through all this.  People need to stop expecting them to tell us everything and taking everything they say as the gospel truth.  Use your eyes.  Most people know it doesn’t take this long for just a simple calf strain to heal.  So that’s why I’ve thought something more was probably going on.

Hard for most fans to realize but these organizations owe the fan nothing. Deception should not be surprising. The Colts organization under Ballard does this more often than not. They just want us to shill out money. Buy tickets and merchandise.  It's a sad truth.

If the Colt's offense is not playing well after the first few games, the discussion here will not be "What's wrong with Luck?"....It will be "What's wrong with the O-Line?"

You've been warned!

With luck missing all this practice time I expect the offense to start slow.

Of course you can view it that way. But your only way of actually affecting the franchise, is speaking with your wallet. Any complaining done here....valid or invalid...has zero affect, only affects other posters.

Any fan has a right to their opinion, in the appropriate forum. Some may complain about the franchise. I mostly complain about how many fans view the franchise. In all, I would hope we are all Colt fans. But not all of us view the information given out by the franchise as a "right".

    • Had Funchess been practing? I thought he had to practice for two weeks before being able to come back?
    • Oh you were right on that one.  I still won, but I missed out on having highest score of the week by .32 points.  Our league pays out for highest weekly scores.
    • I think there's a danger with any position of getting enamoured with the 40 time, I'd put 3 cone over it certainly. However, as always never go by just one metric, and never put metrics over film.    For all that was written about him being a below average athlete, if you compare  him to some of the 'good' SS's in the league he matches up pretty well:   Willis 4.55s (40)/7.15s (3 Cone) Collins 4.53s (40)/7.53s (3 Cone) Chancellor 4.69s (40)/7.36s (3 Cone) Jones  4.51s (40)/7.43s (3 Cone)  Adams  4.56s (40)/6.96s (3 Cone)    etc etc...
    • CeeDee Lamb would be the dream pick imo. Reminds me a lot of Hopkins/Thomas, good size, great route runner and hands. Means he could take on a high volume of targets in the short/intermediate range, something I think Frank Reich badly needs (that's why he was high on signing Funchess). Put him on the boundary opposite Hilton and Campbell in the slot and we have serious options. Not as high on Ruggs when we already have Hilton.   I like Mack as a lead back, but not 25 carries a game. I would prefer a legit RB2 to take some of that load off him, preferably a RB to compliments his game, so a heavier, more physical, north/south RB. This draft has options in the mid round.
    • Here's where I think Kelly 'fans' are distressed. To your point we don't know Kelly...fair.  So what do we know.  We know he can run, dude's fast.  We know he has a strong arm, like that.  We know he'll throw downfield and into tight windows, good!  We know he will stand in the pocket, check. We know he has the stuff to go into Alabama with an Ole Miss team and beat em, that no small thing. We also know he has off-field issues maybe he's grown up, don't know but we hear good things from Frank.  So to someone like me, I like what I see and like what I hear...Rally confused.   Here's what we know about Hoyer, he has none of those physical attributes but he's good in the QB room.  Ok, well, I'm good in QB room but you wouldn't want me under center.  There's an obvious hesitation here on the part of Frank and/or Chris to make Kelly a part of the permanent roster, they will likely cut him again and hope he clears waivers over Hoyer, that to me is absolutely stunning.  Either, Kelly is an off the field nightmare we shouldn't be investing in OR he should be at worst QB2. Hoyer is simply not good, we can get his level of performance literally anywhere, he's the prototypical failed backup and those are readily available on the cheap. I wouldn't understand keeping him over a contract when he weakens the team relative to someone like Kelly on game day.  So to a previous posters comment, why is Kelly here?  If he is such an integrity issue it's not our job to make a man out of him while he occupies a spot.  If he's is good enough physically, which he is, and he's on this roster, which he is, he should stay up and get some first team reps, as all back ups should and see how matures.  It starting to feel like some ego at play here.  All in all, our leadership was ill-prepared to deal with Brissett going down and choked this week in prep.  It's my hope we dump Hoyer who is useless and keep Kelly at QB2, I don't think that will happen.  My 2+ cents.
