I find it interesting that Brissett job was to target DF. Walkers job was to get it to Cain. Kelly’s job was to get it Fountain. That is why these games are meaningless. They don’t even go to their second read.

Pre-season is fun because football is back but it is meaningless. We lost 24-16, no biggy. I want to keep an eye on Luck's health more than anything as the month plays out. Also hope nobody else gets injured.

Trade bait or on the bubble. Everytime colts media posts a receiver having a good play Collins is always the one getting beat.

Yeah. Because Rock is looking like another Ballard gem that’s gonna give immediate impact.  Did Hairston play tonight?

AV is injured again. It would not be a shocked if he decides to retire and we keep this kid.

Such an unpopular opinion here...but if AV is truly hurt (especially the groin that bothered him last year) and Hedlund further proves to be a good kicker, then I wouldn't be too upset.

I'd be surprised though.

Kelly moved the chains, better QBR, and should get a promotion to 3rd QB over Walker.

Speed looks like a keeper! Fountain really took advantage of the targets/snaps. Phillips needs to get some snaps upstream.

Overall, disappointed with the O in the first half. The D was a mixed bag.

My vid stream sucked, so looking forward to watching it on the DVR/replay on the NFL Network. Thank goodness for the radio stream.

He was out there early in the 1st quarter. I noticed because I didn't expect to see him that early. He played pretty well honestly.

Good to hear.  Him and Collins could be battling for those last couple CB spots.

He isn’t playing.

To be fair he had no TY or Ebron. DF was the only guy he had.

The one thing I seen was pressure pressure pressure and no run game. That’s not helpful to any QB but the question here is would Luck have seen anything differently under the same circumstances? The little we seen JB wasn’t stellar either way imho. Like to be able to evaluate him with full #1s

No weapons and a makeshift OL

Oline looked pretty bad. I didn’t notice but did AC play any snaps?

Brissett IS an NFL QB. That’s why they haven’t traded him way. We’ve seen him play, and while not great, I never want to see PW take a meaningful snap. :)

As for the former statement, JB isn’t going to net us anything based on what we’ve seen in last season and so far from this game. The silver lining here is we don’t matter and aren’t privy to everything he has done in practices. As for the latter, I’m not sure what affection the team has for PW but he doesn’t appear to meet the minimum criteria for being an average QB whatsoever.

Hmmm.  I really don’t remember seeing him.  Don’t know if that’s good or bad.

My stream stunk, but from what I did see, it was good.

If he's truly hurt, I agree. If not, try and hide Hedlund on the PS.

Honestly, I don’t think we should have kept Walker over the kid we had from Miami a couple years ago.  At least he would take some shots when he had 1 on 1 on the outside.

Yup. Unfortunately, the Bears will probably be watching Hedlund very closely from here on out.

I'm sure every team is digging stats and film on every other team lol. Might be harder to hide Fountain on the PS another year too :-)

Totally agreed on Fountain. Each catch he made I thought, okay, maybe he should make the roster over Pascal. Especially if he keeps performing.

It will be interesting to see if the colts keep six Wr If fountain or Johnson can beat out Pascal.

I hope we get to see Campbell against the browns.

I think it will depend mostly on injuries at other positions, especially to starters. The healthy we are at 1st and 2nd team depth (other positions), the more likely we can "indulge" with WR.

Ideally it would be great to carry 6 for at least the first 3-4 games until things settle in both at WR and in returns.

I liked what I saw from Grover Stewart at times. I know there have been some social media talk highly of him, cutting down and what not.

I just really like the young defensive line Ballard is putting together. Muhammad (24), Turay (24) Lewis (24) Ward (25) Stewart (25).. Phillips is 26 and looked good tonight. Interested to see if leads to anything for him. Ballard has added these solid understudies that bring competition to help elevate that unit and the depth, and i think we'll start seeing the dividends very soon... especially with how the back end of the defense is coming along. This scheme is built for a strong defensive line. We need it if we are going to take another step towards a championship. Put everything else aside. We need this defensive line to penetrate and put pressure/make plays. That's the money maker that makes everything else just fall into place.

I think Fountain is ahead of Pascal as of now.  I think it’ll be easier to find another Pascal.  No way Fountain makes it to a practice squad.  Dude looks like a physical freak and starting to make plays.

It has been stated in the notebooks from training camp he has a undisclosed injury.

Thanks for bringing that to my attention.  Is this what you're referring to?

Surprised none of the other beat writers have investigated this further.

Poor Cain got stuck with Walker.

Next game hopefully we get to see TY, DF, Cain and Fountain together with an oline and a QB that’s accurate, whether it be JB or CK.

Is this something that was said in a press conference? That is interesting if so.

NH did play and the little I seen of him, it wasn’t very good at all.

We see his play differently. I was thinking after seeing the little of him I did that it wouldn’t be tough on cuts if he continued that sort of play. I only got to see first half and not every play either.

    • I don't think the defense is the same old. For starters, our defense is no longer undersized, and doesn't struggle against the run.   If the Colts draft a man coverage corner in the first round, it will signal a major departure from the previous way of doing things, and it probably means Gus Bradley is gone after this season. I'm not against any of that happening. I just don't expect it, based on the established pattern.   As for what Ballard said in his presser, he also acknowledged that the expected top three boundary corners were unavailable for most of the season. Brents was our highly drafted rookie, and only played 9 games; Flowers played four games; Rodgers was released. That left us with rookies and journeyman playing corner most of the season. With Brents in Year 2 and hopefully healthy, Flowers back and healthy, another year in for Jaylon Jones, that gives Bradley a lot more to work with in the secondary. And I think that's more what Ballard was implying with his comments. Otherwise, he probably would have signed a veteran corner already.
    • Are you going to tell me that I haven’t heaped tons of thanks on you?   How many times have I said thank you and that you are way too kind with your praise?  The answer is many.   I’m sorry you seem not to remember those moments.     Sorry about the headache.  The feeling was mutual.
    • That has always been my issue going back to the Polian years. They preferred undersized players to fit this scheme. That was great when they had a lead and played indoors. The problem  is that teams started running the ball to keep Peyton on the bench. Plus, u get in bad weather and on grass, their speed is negated and they are just a bunch of undersized players getting blown off the ball. I am in favor of building a team that can play in any environment and that can run various schemes. I see flexibility with the offence, however the D is the same old. That's why I think this is an important draft defensively. Will the Colts stray from their previous tendancies of drafting players that fit the Seattle scheme or will they deviate and say draft a man corner? Last year we were all on the edge of our seats when a trade was made at 3. Will we get our qb at 4? We were all on pins and needles till they made that pick. This draft has that same excitement for me. At 15 will Ballard and company do something different? This team needs a play maker on D and I contend that is their biggest need. I don't believe they get that player moving back.  Sure u may get him at 15 but if u really want a playmaker, this just might be the year to say move up and get a guy like Mirchell and Latu who may fall because of the medical. I am not in favor of getting a wr or te. Richardson, if he is the guy, should deliver explosive plays with our current roster.  Jot a fan of Gus and this scheme, but I really don't think he has a lot to work with and Ballard kind of eluded to that in his post season pressers.
    • The move happened before the 1984 season. To put in perspective how great Luck was here, here are the top 3 QBs over 40 seasons here win wise: Regular Season as a starter 1. Peyton Manning = 141 wins 2. Andrew Luck = 53 wins 3. Jim Harbaugh = 20 wins   Post Season as a starter 1. Peyton Manning = 9 wins (won the SB in 2006) 2. Andrew Luck = 4 wins 3. Jim Harbaugh = 2 wins   Luck had 33 more wins than Jim did and 2 more playoff wins than Jim did. Luck is so far ahead of any QB (not named Peyton) regarding wins in the Regular Season and Post Season that it is laughable.
