Is Rock ya Sin already as good as Vontae Davis?

Recommended Posts

Seems like he is getting  mad hype and I'm wondering  just how good is he.

Not only haven't the Colts played a regular season game....    we haven't even played a PRE-season game yet.

Ya think maybe you're asking this question a few months too soon?

Hype in early pre-sesason is just that.......    hype.    Try not to read too much into it.

Just enjoy camp for what it is.     Seriously.     Honestly.

As good as Vontae Davis as he is right now?  Too early to tell, but probably.

Seeing as he hasn’t even played a pre-season game yet why don’t we wait on saying he’s better than maybe the best corner the Indianapolis Colts have had.

I’d say he’s better than Davis at this point.

Since Davis retired in the middle of a game last September, he probably isn’t in near the shape that Rock is in now.

At the moment, no, since he hasn't played any games. Does he have the potential? Yes. Will he? Only time will tell.

Training camp is a horrible way to judge new players. We've been burnt by the hype so many times I don't pay attention anymore

It is going to be fun to see him in the Browns practices and games.  Especially if we put him up against OBJ.

Vontae seemed he was weak emotionally and Rock seems like he is a ......wait for it.......rock. So I’ll give him that.

Stephen, I like your enthusiasm and I am going to say that he is undoubtedly as good as Vontae Davis in his prime. Not just that, he could probably rival Darrelle Revis before he’s even taken a live snap. I have at least seen no evidence to suggest otherwise.

Although it is far too easy (and appropriate) to make a comment about how it is too early to ask that question, I'll bypass it, and actually answer your question.

No.  He is not as good as Vontae Davis.

Comparatively speaking: Vontae Davis was a multiple year starter, the #1 CB on the team, with a Pro Bowl nomination.  Rock Ya-Sin has not even cracked the starting lineup yet.  He's currently duking it out with Quincy Wilson for the #3 spot.  The #1 CB is Pierre Dasir, and he doesn't have a Pro Bowl bid to his name.  So, no.  Rock isn't as good as Vontae yet.  He first needs to make the starting lineup, then beat Dasir for the #1 spot, and then get a Pro Bowl bid.  Then, we can start talking about comparisons to Vontae.

But I'm crossing my fingers for him!

All the kidding aside, it’s obviously too soon to judge the kid. But when TY Hilton says the guy is going to be special, I pay attention. Could the Colts have found another gem in the 2nd round? Signs point to yes..... we’ll know soon enough.

Let's be honest here Vontae was an incredible corner in his prime. Likely one of the best indy ever had. His playing style is completely different then what rocks is.

I thought  Rock was said to be a physical  press man type corner with ball skills

I’m just wondering if our first round pick in 2027 is as good as Peyton Manning. If not, I mean, what is the point of even drafting him?

Trade the pick to the Titans for a backup long snapper and get something out of it.

    • I raised the question early into the 2018 season, "win now or"? Had one year of a top 5 pick (moved to 6 and an all pro selection) then went 11-5 and back to late 20's picking. Mediocre is almost worst than being just plain bad.. No Andrew Luck has exposed A LOT of holes on this team.
    • What if Kelly can be anywhere near as good as his uncle Jim?     Not saying he is now or if he will ever be, and maybe those of us who want to see him get his chance, are just too optimistic.             But stranger things have happened. I’m just saying I liked what I did see in preseason.
    • Love the enthusiasm but why would Joe Brady leave LSU to come to Indy.    More accurate- Love+ Reich+ House= Best Learning situation possible.
    • I think they are smart, finding thee guy is never easy .Not like other teams in the league are not  in the same predicament. We have been in quarterback heaven the last 20 years.
    • So I didn't get everyone, so here's my updated roster.   Full PPR QB: Winston @ Det, Tannehill vs Hou RB: Cook @ LAC, Elliot vs LAR, D. Washington vs Jags, mattison WR: D. Moore vs Sea, Hopkins @ Ten, Gallup vs LAR, ODB @ Ari, Crowder @Bal, D. Slayton vs Mia  DST: Pat's @Cinci, Bal vs NYJ   In this one I'm looking to flex Washington or Slayton, depending on Jacob's status     Half PPR QB: Winston, Darnold RB: Cook, Hunt @Ari, P. Laird @NYG, Mack @ NO,  WR: Thomas vs Ind, Adam's vs Chi, Diggs @LAC,  D. Slayton vs Mia, Z. Pascal @NO DST: Ravens vs Jets, Steelers vs Buf.    In this one I'm considering a couple options:   1. Laird over Hunt since he's both the main back and pass catcher   2. My flex between Diggs, Slayton, or Laird/Hunt.  Not trusting pascal since he'll be shadowed by Lattimore most likely.    @chad72
