When cuts happen. Going to be hard on WR and 2ndary group. I predict alot of argueing amongst us.

Is keeping 6 WRs, 4 rbs, and 4 TEs doable with the amount of OL and DL. Ballard and Reich like to keep?

6 WRs isn’t going to happen.  Argument #1.

If, Cain doesn’t make the roster (my prediction) there will be a lot disappointed folks!

Yes, it's doable, but not easy.  Would likely mean making a difficult cut somewhere on defense.

Like I posted in posted in another thread. Week 17 last year... We had 3 STs players (LS/Punter/Kicker) and the remaining 50 were split 25 on O and 25 on D. Of the 25 O, we had 10 OL, 2 QB, 6 WR, 4 RB, and 3 TEs. That doesn't mean we'll start out that way, but point is, having 6 WRs and 4 RBs is not out of the Qs. We run three WR sets a lot more than we run 2 TE sets. And, WRs and RBs are used a lot in the return game whereas TEs are not. Just something to think about.

And @Chloe6124 is spot on about LBs. We had 5 DBs (sometimes 6) and 2 LBs on the field 80+% of the time last year. So unless our D scheme changes drastically, DBs are a premium in our D. I'm not a big fan of Banogu at SAM, but stuff like that (a DE shifting to OLB), also devalues a true 3rd LB in our scheme. A guy like Okereke who can back up all 3 LB positions also provides flex.

Cain not making the roster is a silly prediction. Can't think of any reason to say that outside of 1he 1% chance to say I told you so.

Very very silly. One way or another, he'll be a Colt this year. He'll either be on the 53 or PUP (if his recovery is slow). All the gushing about him, and the fact they've immediately inserted him at returns is very telling. Not saying he'll be our return guy, but it shows they know he's got the talent and are confident in his recovery process.

I don't think it’s far fetched at all. Not everyone sees things through Colts Blue colored glasses.

This should be fun. Explain your prediction.

I've been plenty critical and questioned a lot of players, so I don't see myself as having Colts Blue glasses on. I'm just wondering what your reasoning is.

Here's my reasoning that he makes it.

-The IndyStar writers were extremely high on him last year going into the season and suggested he would be the clear WR2 and X.

-So far he is looking good, and one tweet I think @Chloe6124 posted today called him the star WR of camp so far (I know it's early, but still)

-Ballard has gushed about him lately

-The Colts invested in the recovery hype vids

-Out of all the potential Xs, he has the best all around measureables and college experience/stats on a big D1 stage.

That's the good on him. Here's the non-Colt's Blue glasses on the others.

-Funchess may be very good for us this year, but he's never been a well rounded X

-Pascal is inconsistent

-Fountain is still raw and is still working on route running.

-He's not competing against TY (Z) or Rogers/Campbell (slot).

-We kept 3 Xs last year, so if it's status quo in 2019, you're saying both Pascal and Fountain beat him out and the Colts are unwilling to give his recovery a shot.

No, not doable, not even close.

Remember...  53 players...   3 of them are the specialists....   kicker, punter, snapper.     So you have 50 players.

Of those 50, most teams carve them up to more being on defense.   It’s physical and violent nature, plus most special teamers are on defense.

So most teams break it down 26-24 defense.

Some even do 27-23 defense.

Some will do 25-25, but this is less common.    It’s Not impossible.   Some teams will do this and it’s possible the Colts will be one of them.  But I’d say it’s not likely.

Look for 5 WRs or 3 TEs as possible candidates.

All your points are reasonable except the bolded.

What????

just picking two points in our season, one early, one late.

Week 2 - 26 Offensive players

Week 17 - 25 Offensive players

Just because we did it at points last year, doesn’t mean we'll do it again this year.

Or didn’t you notice 7 of the 10 draft picks going to defense?

And notice that my post was about what must teams do, not just the Colts.

you started off your post with "no, not doable, not even close".... yet it was pretty doable last year. so, you were wrong...

and doesn't really matter, but pretty sure you edited that last part of your post to hedge your bet after i posted lol...

ratio of draft picks really doesn't matter in terms of who makes the 53. those drafted are not a given to make the 53, and those that do will likely push others of the same position out. taking 7 on D simply means we're good on OL now (as opposed to last year), good on TE, good on QB, good on RB, and needed to improve the quality of depth on D.

nah, you don't hype a guy that wasn't in a prime spot last year. the optics would be super bad if they hyped a guy's recovery, then cut him. and who else got a hype video series this year?

We are arguing about Colts players. I wonder how Colts Blue colored classes would make one player look better than the other? :)

I'm sure there will be disagreement over which WRs make the roster.  Heck, I'm still not happy that Inman wasn't re-signed.

Have you noticed that arguments by fans has very little effect on the decisions of the Colts coaches and front office? Maybe, just maybe, that's a good thing.

Cain should make the roster. Supposedly he’s been balling out again in camp. Also, as of right now, I only see Hilton, Funchess, Campbell, and maybe Rogers ahead of him, so I don’t know who would bump him down to WR6

I bet Cain probably makes it before guys like Marcus Johnson and unless his improvement make it to game film Fountain.

Imo Rogers is not ahead of him. He is the punt returner, so his (Roger's spot) is safe till he can keep that job, but as a WR, I think Cain is the "unofficial" #4 right now. I say this despite I like Rogers a lot, I never understood the "hate" towards him. Yep, he dropped some balls, but he had same or better numbers than Moncrief ever had (except one year, and only regarding TD-s), which is more than fine from a 2nd year UDFA, who was forced into the #2 WR spot due to multiple reasons. Still, according to what I have seen from Cain so far, his floor is where Rogers's ceiling is, and his ceiling is sky high.

I wanted Inman back as well. He had good hands but I trust Ballard. I would bet Cain makes the roster, I have no reason to believe he won't so far.

Which goes to another earlier thread about the LB situation. TE and LB are going to be the biggest cuts. Sheard being hurt will be a big factor. Let’s see who makes it out of the first two preseason games. Go Colts!
