if rookie Marshall Faulk were running behind the offensive line we had last year i would say he'd probably average near 2000 yards rushing due to his after burst and amazing versatility do you agree or disagree?

And if we had that same line when Jeff George was here, we would have  it had the chance to get Faulk.

Funny thing about Marshall, and I love his game......he only topped out at like 1300 yards a couple times and had 7 1000 yard seasons (and like like 5-6 under a 1000). He did pull the Roger Craig and have 1000/1000 rushing and receiving one year though.

Total scrimmage yards he was a beast.

Having said that, I'd love to see pre-horsecollar tackle Edge run behind this line.

Man, edge was as smooth as hot butter running. Had that injury not occurred, wonder what his end stats would have been. He was my favorite player. Wayne being second.

Edge's first 2 years in the league were the best by a running back in NFL history.  Amazing that he came back from that injury and still had 5 more 1,000 + rushing yard seasons.  Aside from being a great runner and receiver, he was widely considered one of (if not the) top pass blocking back in the league.

He deserves HOF very soon.

What do you meAn by his first two years were two of the best ever?  I’m literally asking not trying to doubt you. I’m not a big statistician so I’m kind of unaware where his first two years rate as far as two seasons for a running back. I know he was a beast. Can you clarify what you meant there. I’m genuinely curious and like I said I’m not doubting you or your opinion I just want to learn More about edge and where he ranks among the greats.

He lead the league in rushing as a rookie.  I think he did his second year as well.  But i would bet he meant if you compare his first two years to those of any other rb you would see his standing out.

His first two years in the NFL compared to other great RBs' first two years were two of the best ever.  They were both very good seasons, I meant specifically compared to the first two years of other RBs.  I believe Eric Dickerson is the only one who really compared to Edge in terms of his first 2 years in the league.

As a rookie he had 1,553 rushing yards along with 62 receptions for 586 yards (2,139 all purpose yards).  In year two he had 1,709 rushing yards along with 63 receptions for 594 yards (2,303 all-purpose yards).

He was First-team All-Pro as a rookie and 2nd-team All-Pro in year two (kind of shocking, as he was better year 2 than year 1).  He led the NFL is rushing in both his rookie year and his 2nd year.

He had 13 rushing TDs both years and 4 & 5 receiving TDs respectively (so he averaged over a TD per game).

Some other All-Time greats that got off to a fast start:

Adrian Peterson: 1,341 rushing yards 12 TDs, 19 receptions 268 yards 1 TD year 1... 1,760 rushing yards 10 TDs, 21 receptions 125 yards 0 TD year 2.

Eric Dickerson: 1,808 rushing yards 18 TDs, 51 receptions 404 yards 2 TD (2,212 all-purpose yards -- slightly better than Edge) year 1.... 2,105 rushing yards 14 TDs, 21 receptions 139 yards 0 TD (2,244 all-purpose yards -- slightly less than Edge) year 2.

Barry Sanders: 1,470 rushing yards 14 TDs, 24 receptions 282 yards 0 TDs year 1... 1,304 rushing yards 13 TDs, 36 receptions 480 yards 3 TD year 2.

Emmitt Smith: 937 rushing yards 11 TDs, 24 receptions 228 yards 0 TD year 1... 1,563 rushing yards 12 TDs, 49 receptions 258 yards 1 TD year 2.

Walter Payton: 679 rushing yards 7 TDs, 33 receptions 233 yards 0 TD year 1.... 1,390 rushing yards 13  TDs, 15 receptions 149 yards 0 TD year 2.

LaDanian Tomlinson: 1,236 rushing yards 10 TD, 59 receptions 367 yards 0 TD year 1... 1,683 rushing yards 14 TD, 79 receptions 489 yards 1 TD year 2.

I could go on and on, but nobody else is really too close in this discussion as far as 'first two years only.'  Marshall Faulk had slightly less receptions and receiving yards, but was one of a few RBs to have over 50 receptions in both of his first two seasons.

Saquon Barkley, if he has a year like last year (1,307 rushing yards 11 TD, 91 receptions 721 yards 4 TD -- 2028 all-purpose yards, 111 yards less than Edge and 174 yards less than Dickerson as rookies) will be in this conversation.

Edge should already be in the HOF.  I cannot imagine what his career would have been like had he not gotten horse-collared and blew out his knee.  He was on pace for ~1,800 yards rushing and 64 receptions that year.  He came back the next year and was obviously not full strength and still had 989 yards in just 14 games to go along with 61 receptions.

He was truly one of the greatest backs in NFL history.  I will be shocked if he doesn't get his Gold Jacket next year.

I would take Tony Dorsett over Faulk. 1995 turned me off from Faulk. We would've won the SB had he played in 95 and he quit - BOOO.

Cmon man.  Nobody outside of Dallas thinks Emmett is better than Barry

I do. Barry was electrifying but Emmitt was the better  hard nosed short yardage runner. He won 3 SB's being the main guy, when he sat out 2 games the Cowboys looked lost in 1993. He is also the all-time leading rusher. I can go on and on. You will say he had a great O.Line so need to respond. Rice had Montana and Young but that doesn't take away from his greatness. Actually Barry had a good O.line and never won anything. Give me Emmitt all day.

Lenny Moore was on the NFL All First  50th Anniversary Team with Brown.  (Unitas was that teams QB)  Moore has to be 1st or 2nd!!!!  Yet, most fans here dont even remember him for a Colts top 10!?!?!?!?

He is a Colts top 5 RB easily IMO. You have Edge, Dickerson, Faulk, and then Moore who makes the top 4 actually. I never seen Moore live but have seen him on film and know his stats, etc.. Anyone that doesn't think he is top 10 RB in Colts history is nuts lol.

Faulk was a great player, but he was never a pure grind out yards type running back. Edge was.

James is a huge part of why the offense exploded in 1999 after we traded Faulk & drafted James. The play action to Edge/ bomb over the top to Harrison was absolutely LETHAL

The best RB I ever saw was Bo Jackson.  If rating over a career, then no, but if I had to have one guy for one season at his said best....I go Bo!

i would have loved to see Mike Hart, Donald brown in his prime Dominique Rhodes and Joseph addai run behind our solid oline. I bet they all would have had amazing rushing stats last year

Mike Hart would have gained 4200 yards, 68 TD’s and cured cancer behind this oline all while completing his doctorate in engineering, in an online course, during the games. All in a season

    • Yeah... Richardson needs players who can separate and who can get open deep. IMO "give the inaccurate QB a contested catch receiver with large catch radius" is one of the tropes that hasn't proven to work well. Contested catches have about 50-55% success rate even with the best of contested catch receivers and with relatively accurate QBs... now if you think AR's accuracy is not good, drop that rate even more. The best way to give a relatively inaccurate QB better chance to complete passes is to give him a WR who separates and and who is open so the QB would have more of a margin for error to throw the ball a little behind or ahead or a little higher or lower than ideal. (we are not talking about uncatchable balls here... those will be uncatchable for anyone really). In that regard, one thing I would agree about is - we need WRs who have good hands and have good ball skills.   And this is ignoring that AR has indeed been pretty good with his accuracy on passes at intermediate and long range. His biggest problem coming into the league was the short stuff and he was already showing improvements in that deparment before he got injured.    And Worthy is the WR who created the most separation from anybody in this draft :
    • Richardson  accuracy  on deep balls is his strength.  Hence why you pair an elite deep threat in worthy.
    • No.   You weren’t.   If you were the least bit sincere, we’d be having these conversations in private.  But you’ve repeatedly ignored my efforts to do that.  Your call.      Then you avoid me until I’m in an uncomfortable conversation with another poster.   You use that awkward moment as an excuse for you to come in with some sincere friendly advice.   The problem is, you’re neither sincere, nor friendly.  And you’ve been doing this for months now.  This is not new.   The pattern is clear and obvious.     And the shame of it all is that even with our different views on Ballard we have enough in common that we should be friendly.  Maybe not friends, but friendly.  You wouldn’t need to address me as “Sir.”    “Good deed going unpunished”.  You flatter yourself.     But your actions speak much louder than your words.   There’s no reason for me to trust you.  And here we are.  A real shame.
    • In a year when the Colts were in serious need of a QB and in position to draft one, Ballard came up in front of the media 3 days before the draft and straight up said something to the effect of "That guy everybody in media is talking about(Levis), we are not taking him". I don't know why you think the Colts are trying to throw us off the scent this year specifically. They are not trying to give us away the pick(thus the vagueness), but I also don't really think they are trying to mislead anybody. This usually becomes specifically apparent in retrospect after the draft when you look back at a lot of those quotes in the videos they release pre-draft... and they were talking precisely about players we ended up drafting, which they reveal in the post-draft video by extending some of those quotes(they did that with AR last year for example).    And about why people are doing it(guessing who they are talking about) - because it is fun. Nobody has the illusion that we will be right in our guesses 100% of the time... or anywhere close really... but it's still fun. And it's part of why the Colts release those videos with those quotes - to create engagement with the fanbase... part of which, and the entirety of which that 70 pages thread and whole board is about in the offseason. is to guess who the Colts might take and how they might feel about specific prospects.
