2019 Gavin Mock Draft RD 1!!!!!!!

Recommended Posts

Since the Texans are not picking in the 4th round and we probably won't do rounds 5-7, the Texans are done in this mock, this is the result:

29: Byron Murphy, CB, Washington

54: Kaleb McGary, OT/G, Washington

55: Chase Winovich, DE, Michigan

86: Max Scharping, OT, Northern Illinois

92: Anthony Nelson, DL, Iowa

Texans would have 4 picks remaining in rounds 5-7, adding depth at RB, WR, TE and OL.

Very nicely done!!!

Nelson complementing Watt and Winovich adding to what Mercilus brings to the table. Almost an embarrassment of riches on the front 7.

The secondary however is a different question. Having lost Kareem Jackson and Tyrann Mathieu, I still believe there will be mismatches to be exploited in the Texans' secondary IF our OL gives Luck and company just enough time to execute the short range hitters, which they seemed to do well enough when we played them.

RBs with low mileage in college have typically done well in the NFL. A lot of 4 year Wisconsin RBs have crashed and burned in the NFL. Our own Joseph Addai was an example of a low mileage RB. Funny that you mention Hunt, I do think Josh Jacobs compares favorably to Kareem Hunt, IMO.

I think Josh Jacobs is primed to go in the late 1st round to a team that he will excel for. This read was an interesting one:

https://nflmocks.com/2019/02/09/2019-nfl-draft-josh-jacobs-isnt-your-typical-top-rb/

I have not seen him ranked anywhere beyond the Top 30.

I'm not doubting that Jacobs can be good, I just don't see the value over Mack, Hines, Wilkins and maybe Ajayi... I'm absolutely willing to be proven wrong if the Colts pick Jacobs and he balls out - and I absolutely agree that he probably will be gone anyway even if we don't trade back in the second - KC at the end of the first as mentioned in the article above makes a ton of sense. I'm hoping he's not playing that well if this comes to fruition ;)

That DLine would be scary good and the Texans could maybe entertain offers for Clowney if they can't reach a deal. They brought in Roby for Jackson and adding Murphy the CB position should be fine, S would still be a need however, I agree, even though they brought Gipson in to replace Mathieu... the drop-off from the first bunch of safeties in the early second is pretty steep however, I didn't feel comfortable with a player there... does anyone have suggestions for late-round sleepers at safety except for Woods maybe?

However, here's to hoping the Texans don't fix all their secondary issues ^^

Tight End Jordan Reed led the Redskins with 54 catches and 558 yards, and also ended up on the injured list after 13 games.  Again.  Seems like so long ago that he had his magical 87 catch / 952 yards / 11 TD season in 2015.  Will he ever return to that form?  The Redskins are not waiting to find out.

With the 96th pick in the 2019 Gavin Mock Draft, the Washington Redskins select:

Kaden Smith, TE, Stanford

Smith is a great value pick as the 33rd overall ranked pick according to DraftTek.  He's a well-rounded tight end who can block fairly well and has a very quick release.  He's got more determination and hard work than exceptional athletic ability.  Watching the attached highlight film, you can easily think of a name:  Jack Doyle.

As of 5:14pm, @danlhart87 and the New England Patriots are on the clock

Did not realize Kaden Smith was still available. shastamasta is not a good multi-tasking GM apparently.
