Colts Speed Rushers

Need opnions.

Did Turay show us enough that he is capable of double digits sacks or still to early to tell. My opnion is he's inconsistent but showed flashes of what could be.

Also who is our other speed rushers or we all power?

I absolutely think Turay has several of the same traits that Mathis had at an early stage. I am not sure if he has the ability yet to get double digits this year without another partner to help split up the concerns but he has high upside imho. Needs strength and reps.

Speed rushers are Turay, Winbush and Phillips, everyone else seems to be more power/technique in Lewis, Muhammad and Sheard.

I see Lewis and Turay as our bookends by 2020 unless we sign or draft a better player at either spot. Either way I see them both as 8-10 per sack guys....

At this moment....   I don’t see s 10 sack player on the roster...

I see players who should be 6-8  sack per year players...   Turay, Lewis, Sheard, Autry.  (Yes, I know Autry got 9 sacks last year).

And other players who should be more like 4-6 sack a year players.   Hunt,  Muhammad.

And, between FA and the draft,  we should pick up at least two or three more pass rushers.

This and more hopefully leads to a better defense.

It's not necessary to have a 10 sack player if they could all just take turns sacking the QB. haha

While maybe not in the category of a speed rusher.  I think people are forgetting Jihad Ward .  That kid is good .   he is averaging a half sack a game.   Which puts him at 8 a season.  And they can move him around the line .  Like Houston does with Clowney/Watt . Obviously not on their level  but still a very good player.

I want to add to the D line in the draft, but I don't hate what is already in place with Lewis Turay Ward Sheard Autry and Hunt.  There is some talent and good rotation there.  Lewis is going to be a beast IMO

I was thinking the same thing. I was at the Washington game and he jumped “off the page” with his quickness for a big man (I think he’s in the 290 range.)

They’ve got some talent now but I still hope they go Dline in the first (preferably a DE) and a DT in the second with WR being the other 2.

Yes, this! Ward is underrated, and I think once he comes back from injury, he'll prove to be even better than last year.

Keep those guys fresh and rotating out. Ballard has said he values DL / OL most of all, and Reich said he loved that Philly rotated so much talent in and out as well.

I'm expecting the D-Line to get 2 additions in the earlier rounds of this draft and another via Free Agency. At least one of those three will be a strong edge rusher IMHO.

Agree with this.

    • You think the Ed Dodds you see in edited clips here is the same as the Ed Dodds who interviews with teams?   I don’t know you or anyone would think that?      He’s very much respected around the NFL which is why multiple teams ask to interview with them most every year.

    • Yeah... Richardson needs players who can separate and who can get open deep. IMO "give the inaccurate QB a contested catch receiver with large catch radius" is one of the tropes that hasn't proven to work well. Contested catches have about 50-55% success rate even with the best of contested catch receivers and with relatively accurate QBs... now if you think AR's accuracy is not good, drop that rate even more. The best way to give a relatively inaccurate QB better chance to complete passes is to give him a WR who separates and and who is open so the QB would have more of a margin for error to throw the ball a little behind or ahead or a little higher or lower than ideal. (we are not talking about uncatchable balls here... those will be uncatchable for anyone really). In that regard, one thing I would agree about is - we need WRs who have good hands and have good ball skills.   And this is ignoring that AR has indeed been pretty good with his accuracy on passes at intermediate and long range. His biggest problem coming into the league was the short stuff and he was already showing improvements in that deparment before he got injured.    And Worthy is the WR who created the most separation from anybody in this draft :
    • Richardson  accuracy  on deep balls is his strength.  Hence why you pair an elite deep threat in worthy.
