What free agents would you like to sign.

When you think about it we know Ballard is looking for FA's that would fit the culture of our locker room and enhance it.  The reports of us going hard after Williams tells me Siranni and Reich think he's a perfect fit and fills a need. They know first hand what kind of guy he is and how he is in the locker room.  From what I'm reading Collins is also that type of player that is great in the locker room and fits a need.  Collins was actually a team captain last year.  Those two stand out in my mind as fitting the Ballard profile.  Let's see what happens.

It goes beyond that, though it is an important part.

“We place a value on every guy and we are going to be very disciplined in that regard,”

Saying, he will not win a bidding war.

“If we think from a free agent standpoint that we are going to go get one of the high-priced (guys), we have a very strict criteria that he’s going to have to fit. He’s going to have to fit in the locker room."

You seem to believe that is covered, and may well be.

"He’s going to have to earn the high salary that he’s making not only with his play, "

The value grade level

"but with his impact and his presence within the locker room.”

He is also on record in the past saying no Free Agent will be signed before Brian Decker has administered his character assessment process and graded it.  In any event, he approaches it like-

"We put a value on a player and when it gets out of our reach I just think we are comfortable enough to sleep at night saying we are going to find (another) answer. Sometimes it might not be the household name that everybody wants us to sign and that’s okay. I get it. But we are going to find an answer, whether it’s in that first window of free agency, maybe it’s the second window, maybe it’s the draft, maybe it’s after the draft, maybe it’s at the cut-down day. There are times to acquire players at all points during the season.”

After this season, Ballard is looking at this (at a minimum)-

next off season Colts will have Anthony Castonzo, Eric Ebron, Jack Doyle and Jabaal Sheard all as free agents. In 2021, Colts have T.Y. Hilton and likely Ryan Kelly as free agents. And in 2022, Andrew Luck is due for his third NFL contract (plus Darius Leonard and likely Malik Hooker are up, as well).  CB looks at this year, and beyond at all times.

I’ll say this, there’s a lot of “Hate” on this forum for AB and Bell.

theres a rumor that bell hinted on IG that he likes KC.

if bell goes to KC, the outcome of this 2018 playoffs against KC Maybe a preview of what’s to come the next 3-4 years whenever Indy plays KC. I’m just being honest.

just like Indy beats the pats 1/5 times. BTW, Pats won’t be the problem for the next 5-7 years. KC will be the prob as Mahomes will enter his 3rd season on the league after tossing 50 TDs his second season. Give Mahomes his credit just as every Colts fans wants Andrew Luck respected as well.

stop with the hate! If Bell goes to KC = Game Over Indy. We won’t make it to the conference championship. Just being honest. Oh yea, and for those smarty pants that has a rebuttal, Their Oline schooled Indys pass rush in the playoffs. Don’t forget that!

Though it could turn out that way, please excuse me if I don't take your 'opinion' as a foregone conclusion.

I hate to break it to you....

But Pittsburgh had Roethlisberger, Bell and Brown together in their prime plus a lot of other talent and they went to a grand total of ZERO Super Bowls.  None.    And it’s not like they were in the AFC Championship game every year, either.

And you you act like the team we had in the playoffs vs KC will be the same team we put on the field for the next five years.

Feel free to panic or worry when theres actual good reason to...    but not before...

TE Tyler Eifert. He gets hurt more often than Bob Sanders did but he is from Indiana(Fort Wayne) and grew up a colts fan. Should come fairly cheap on a "hometown" discount due to injury history and we wont need him to be the main focus of our TE group. Could be a huge addition for minimal risk.

Probably Humphries, I don't think he'll break the bank is a.good #2 and can play in the slot if in the draft we pickup a bigger WR. Then Amos aswell they're tied.

Here are some names on my FA radar....     I'm not suggesting we're going to sign any of them.

I'm sure we'll grab some...     but which ones and how many I have no idea?   With CB,  when in doubt,  I think it's safer to error on the conservative side.

On Offense:

QB (if we trade JB)

2/$10

McCown

Fitzpatrick

Glennon

RB  (I have one big favorite, who I think it's unlikely we'd sign)

TJ Yeldon   3/$10.    Perfect back-up.  3rd down specialist.   Does a little of everything well.  Has roughly 3200 yards in 4 NFL seasons, mostly as a back-up.    High quality back-up.

Others.....    (1 year deals)

CJ Anderson

Buck Allen

Amir Abdullah

WR   (depends on what Ballard wants?   A deep threat, or a moving the chains receiver?  I'm OK with either)

T. Williams    5/55

A. Humphries  4/40

G. Tate               2/16?  3/25?

J. Crowder        4/30

OL

Cam Fleming   2/8  (Can play most any spot on the OL.  Versatility adds value)

On Defense:

Z. Smith      4/44

or

P. Smith      5/55

J.  Houston   1/10

B. Mayawa   2/6

MLB

Hicks      4/30    (Walker moves to Sam)    Not wild about this.

OLB

KJ Wright    2/10    (Seattle connection)

CB

B. Breeland    3/20

DB

Collins    5/50

Amos      4/36   (might have to go to 5 years here)

Phillips   4/25-30

Vacarro   2/10

I'm throwing darts at a board.    Hoping for the best.    Would be nice to see some names in the first 2-4 days   That's where the top money is typically spent.    If not,  Ballard is shopping mid-price and the discount isles.

Fun few weeks ahead!

1. Landon Collins - perfect fit for this defense, perfect timing for the both the team and player, chance to make up for Grigs drafting Dorsett over Collins smh

2. Trey Flowers - another perfect match. Flowers has championship experience and fits the defense. nuff said

3. Tyrell Williams - perfect #2 for Hilton. Hilton/Williams/Inman/Cain would be a very solid group.

4. DeSean Jackson - he would tear up defenses with Luck throwing the ball. Hilton + Jackson on the field at the same time would open things up for the rest of the offense.

5. Le'Veon Bell - I don't think he would be a match for the money he rightfully wants and I don't think he'd be the best fit for the locker room, but it's fun to imagine Bell, Hilton and Ebron on the same team. I don't think they would be able to be stopped.

Colts looking to add Slot Receiver. (bottom of page in FA section)

I would expect that to be between Humphries, Funchess, Cole Beasley.

Funchess is slow and Beasley is old. Just don't see them at all. lol
Watching tape of Humphries and i too got excited. Would CB pay $8M + for a slot?
He is quick, smart, and tough that is for sure. Love to have him. I think Doyle wouldn't make sense if we signed him. Just not enough value if he isn't also catching 50-60+ passes.

Hoping for Humphries or Funchess!

You know those nightmares where you're being pursued by an apex predator or some demonic perversion of your subconscious?  You're never just enjoying an adrenaline-powered escape... Rather you're running in quicksand.

For Devin "Bunches of Funchess" this is not a nightmare.  This is a "slow Tuesday."

    • What MHJ does or doesn't do isn't really relevant to my point.
    • When Marvin has 90-100 catches next season and over 1000 yards as a rookie + turns Murray's career around, I want you to remember this post assuming the Cards do take Marvin.
    • It depends on how good AR will be, if he is good we can win 11 with the help of another great player, we won 9 with Minshew, should have been 10.
    • Gotta have a trade partner.Big ? Is would Arizona trade back that far knowing they’re gonna miss out on one of those top 3 Wr’s.I would also call New England and Los Angeles too.I don’t see MHJ getting past the 4th pick unless a Minnesota or Denver trades up for one of those top QB’s.I also don’t see the Giants if they stay put at 6 not taking Nabors I think that’s who they got they’re eyes on with that pick.
    • I think this probably isn't an objective viewpoint. I think you want fireworks, and you're an eternal optimist. Nothing wrong with that, but I think a more practical viewpoint is to acknowledge that taking huge chances isn't exactly a recipe for success. (You're going to point to examples that worked out; I'm going to counter with twice as many that failed.)   The bolded especially. First, it seems like you chose 11 games because you feel like that's the target to keep up with the Texans. Second, I don't think the Colts are one player away from keeping up with the top tier of the AFC. I think a lot has to go right for the Colts to be in the mix with the Chiefs, etc. I said at the beginning of the offseason, I think we're still one draft class away from being in those discussions.   But if you can talk yourself into one guy being the answer, just one playmaker holds the key for the Colts to be in contention, then yeah, identify your favorite prospect and bang the table for the Colts to do whatever they have to to get that player. That would be awesome for us. But I think the reason Ballard doesn't do that is because it's flawed team building (historically speaking), not because he's afraid.. You can promise steak dinners based on your hunches, but that's not exactly how I want the GM to make decisions.
